To ask people to move seats at the theatre

My 6-year son really wants to see a play of one of David Walliams on Saturday, the only seats they have left are on the front row but they are 5 seats apart. WIBU to buy the two tickets and ask the 5 people sat in between us to either move up or move down?

@Cherryflamingo It's happened to me three times, and once was to allow a parent and child to sit together.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 06/06/2017 21:30

It's not 'being very nice' to come up to a total stranger and ask them to move seats

peachgreen · 06/06/2017 21:31

@LiviaDrusillaAugusta It is when they're offering you a better seat!

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 06/06/2017 21:32

But if I wanted a better seat I would have paid for it

Ratatatouille · 06/06/2017 21:32

So I don't see why I would go out of my way for them

It's come to something when standing up, moving one step to the left and sitting back down is "going out of your way" 😂

There are obviously two kinds of people. Those who don't understand why you would ever help a stranger in any way, and those who can't understand why you wouldn't. I know which camp I'm in and I'm proud to be in it.

Oh and please stop tagging me with the @ sign - I have had to turn the notifications off because getting emails of notification is a pita Grin

I wouldn't help but I wouldn't expect anyone to help me. It's not difficult to get your head round.

If I was in a seat that wasn't ideal I would leave rather than ask someone to move

peachgreen · 06/06/2017 21:34

@Ratatatouille Couldn't agree more. One of the reasons I love the theatre so much is that the majority of theatre-goers are bloody lovely and would happily go through the MASSIVE INCONVENIENCE!!! of standing up, shuffling two steps sideways and sitting down again to help someone out. Especially if it means getting a better seat. Grin

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 06/06/2017 21:35

Because I don't feel that asking people to accommodate me is the right thing to do

IHateUncleJamie · 06/06/2017 21:35

FFS. Has nobody noticed the OP (a) hasn't posted for ages and (b) was apparently looking at the seats for Friday when she actually wanted Saturday?

She's probably booked perfectly fine seats for the correct night by now and buggered off.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 06/06/2017 21:35

Where are these better seats that are next to ordinary seats?

peachgreen · 06/06/2017 21:36

@LiviaDrusillaAugusta I'm afraid that would inconvenience me, so... Grin

ExPresidents · 06/06/2017 21:36

I find that really sad. Life shouldn't be like that.

Bigbiscuits · 06/06/2017 21:36

OP, I would give it a go as long as your child would be ok if they couldn't move.

I reckon, most people out in th real world would happily move.

SugarnetMum · 06/06/2017 21:38

I'd move! Who cares moving down one. People only picked those seats in a spur.

Its not like they'd rather seat 16 than 17.

Unless there is something blocking like a pillar which is a little unfair! Ask them :)

Ratatatouille · 06/06/2017 21:38

Well obviously I understand it, it's a simple concept. I just think it's mean spirited, miserable and of everyone was like that then the world would be a bloody joyless place.

OhTallulah · 06/06/2017 21:39

This, it's nice to be nice.

ExPresidents Tue 06-Jun-17 21:29:13
No they're not under an obligation. Sometimes people do things just to be nice though, can you imagine?

user1495025590 · 06/06/2017 21:40

There are obviously two kinds of people. Those who have the brass neck to assume strangers will not mind moving their seating plans for a stranger, and those who wouldn't dream of asking.I know which camp I'm in and proud to be in

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 06/06/2017 21:40

Ex Its naive to think that life isn't like that. And you know what - it works. People can get on with their lives with minimum inconvenience to others. If people offer then fine but it's pretty depressing being expected to accommodate everyone else when they don't always do the samw

ExPresidents · 06/06/2017 21:41

It's not naive. My life isn't like that. I don't recognise the world you seem to inhabit.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 06/06/2017 21:42

And actually those who are advocating 'being nice' are the ones being snarky and calling others miserable and hatchet faced - there's irony there too Grin

fleshmarketclose · 06/06/2017 21:42

I'd probably take my chances tbh. If it's Gangsta Granny it's really good and he'll be enthralled so doubt that he'd miss your presence anyway tbh.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 06/06/2017 21:42

Ex I presume you don't hesitate to ask someone to do something for you the ?

IHateUncleJamie · 06/06/2017 21:42

HERE YOU GO OP

secure.atgtickets.com/Online/mapSelect.asp

There are about 100 tickets available (together) for the SATURDAY which is the day you said you wanted.

Can we all stop arguing now? FFS.
