To ring my neighbour's doorbell every half hour

To make sure they are up? Back story is we have a house of "professionals" who live four doors along (no idea how many live there, but there is a few of them) and come the summer months they hold regular parties that spill into their back garden and keep us all awake, we knock when they wake our kids up but they are always so very pissed and it's like talking to a bunch toddlers when asking them to take the party indoors.

Last nights party went on till 3am, we went and knocked 4 plus more times before the noise settled down. I've got work today so I can't have a lie on go catch up on my sleep Angry

Would I be unreasonable to go and ring their doorbell every half hour with a cheery smile to make sure they don't get to sleep off their hangover?

I've just lodged a complaint with the local council but I'm sitting here so tired and fed up.

I don't know how he could have been charged with burglary if he took nothing?
Section 9(1) Theft Act defines burglary as -

"A person is guilty of burglary if—
(a)
he enters any building or part of a building as a trespasser and with intent to commit any such offence as is mentioned in subsection (2) below; or
(b)
having entered any building or part of a building as a trespasser he steals or attempts to steal anything in the building or that part of it or inflicts or attempts to inflict on any person therein any grievous bodily harm"

Section 9(2) Theft Act 1968 -

"The offences referred to in subsection (1)(a) above are offences of stealing anything in the building or part of a building in question, of inflicting on any person therein any grievous bodily harm F1... therein, and of doing unlawful damage to the building or anything therein.

The crime of burglary is more than what most people think it is.

If he entered the property intending to damage the speaker system then strictly speaking he could be charged with burglary.

I must add that I didn't know this until I studied law as until then I always thought that burglary was just about theft.

Yes I did google the address and nothing archived was coming up
That is weird that it is being rented and there is no trace of any of the lettings details.

Through a Google search I found the original lettings details of a house that was rented in 2010.

Have you looked the house up on Rightmove and Zoopla to see when it was last sold or to see if they have any information on their websites??

Bellini81 · 04/06/2017 20:43

There is a bit of info on zoopla but just generic info like home values in this area and energy bill prices, am I missing something on there?

OP posts:
OMGtwins · 04/06/2017 20:44

Google just the street name and the number of bedrooms (not the full address) and if it was rented out via Zoopla or Rightmove that should find it.

OMGtwins · 04/06/2017 20:45

Also, use the desktop Google search and it'll take you to the right pages via a deep link, if not you'll get sent to a generic mobile page for the website.

Gosh even the memory of former noisy neighbours makes me anxious, so I admire you OP!

Bellini81 · 04/06/2017 20:47

Ah this property hasn't been sold since 1995 I can see on 192.com, it must definitely rented then as the people living there look like they were born around this time.

I think you can find out who is the owner from land registry. We owned a student house some years ago which we kept on after DC left.

We were served a noise abatement notice about the noise coming from the house. I also received a phone call from a neighbouring landlord and never knew how he got our number.

We read the tenants the riot act and posted the notice on the fridge and all over the house but it was difficult to control. The next year we had 7 quiet girls and it was fine and then sold it but you should be able to find out who owns it. They can threaten eviction as noise is usually in a lease. Ours was summer term after exams and they were leaving anyway.

shadey171 · 04/06/2017 20:53

Do you have a rape alarm I would set it off in a hidden place near there windows or door so they can't find it easily it will drive them nuts!

CauliflowerSqueeze · 04/06/2017 21:00

No the rape alarm will upset your other neighbours.

Get a box of stink bombs off amazon. Crush up and throw through windows.

Bellini81 · 04/06/2017 21:03

I wish you lot were my neighbours, I would love a neighbourhood meeting about these pratts 4 doors down from me with you lot.. I've got a feeling they would move out swiftly Grin

OP if it was a repossession the details might not show online, our old flat didn't.

ItsASunnyDay · 04/06/2017 21:04

Loving your work, btw! 😂

SilkandSteel · 04/06/2017 21:09

Is it possible that the owner(s) of the house are living at the address and just renting out rooms eg. via spareroom website?

silkpyjamasallday · 04/06/2017 21:10

Definitely go and knock! We live next to students, one of whom regularly screams like he is being murdered in the early hours because he forgets his keys and his housemates won't let him in. Another of them plays music out of his car so loudly I can hear it in the back garden, again in the early hours. We live in a terrace and it's just not on. DP goes round as soon as DD is up, which recently has been 5 am, and bangs on the door aggressively until they slink down and apologise. Then I put on Peppa pig or paw patrol on the speakers loudly against the wall or in the garden Grin as they are our only direct neighbours. Keeps happening though and is incredibly frustrating when they wake dd so I feel your pain OP.

silkpyjamasallday · 04/06/2017 21:13

You could buy your children some vuvuzelas (spelling?) that would certainly not allow for hangover lie ins Grin

Bananamama1213 · 04/06/2017 21:18

I love this so much. I wish I was brace enough to do this!

I loved my old neighbours. Very quiet and friendly. I never even heard their newborn baby. But the landlord wanted to sell so they had to leave.

New neighbours moved in and for months, all they did was drill. They could start at 8am and finish at 8-9pm! I don't know what they were doing!! The house on the other side of theirs is my friends.

One night they had a party which went on for flipping hours, and they had a fire. So loud music, loud people and the smoke smell. It sounded like there must've been 20 people there.

I was messaging my friend, talking about how fed up we were. The next day we were both up early (kids) so decided to literally hammer on the walls to make sure they were awake. I also put our music on ridiculously loud and pointed the speaker to their bedroom wall.

I felt so much better!

snoopy2016 · 04/06/2017 21:22

My old neighbour used to be like this parties from Friday night until Sunday morning, I used to work weekends and one day I got so fed up I put my speakers next to her wall at 6am on the Sunday and played F**k you by Lilly Allen on repeat for eight hours while I was at work the neighbours the other side didn't care they were sick of it too and told me to do it, he took a stereo out in his garden once they moved out there to try and sleep on the trampoline and played rock music very loudly funnily enough after that it was a lot quieter lol

Bellini81 · 04/06/2017 21:22

SilkandSteel very possible.

nannykatherine · 04/06/2017 21:45

i've done the doorbell ringing thing
after they've kept me up all night
and also ordered lots of dominos pizza to be delivered to their address requiring payment in cash by them
ha ha

SapphireSeptember · 04/06/2017 21:57

snoopy You and your rock music loving neighbour are hardcore! Grin

OP Love this thread! YWDNBU! Not getting any sleep is a killer. I remember one night I had to phone the police because of an almighty ruckus going on in the carpark in the block of flats I lived in. Someone was having a fight with someone else, I hadn't been sleeping before it started and I certainly didn't get any afterwards. I don't think the police did turn up though.

crankyfranky · 04/06/2017 22:08

I phoned my neighbours on their house phone yesterday every half hour to make sure they were up for the exact same reason! Ha ha, love it
