To think that I was not being a pussy over this huge spider? (Picture of spider included)

Okay I know the body isn't big but look at its long, horrible legs! This was on my curtain earlier and I didn't notice until I was watching TV and saw something move out the corner of my eye. I felt sick and called bf wailing in horror about the disgusting thing and he told me I was being a pussy and to be a man and just kill it. Well I didn't kill it (as I don't kill insects or the like except wasps and only if they sting me first) and managed to capture it into a cup under a thick magazine (feeling sick all the time!!) and released it outside. Bf said I was overreacting drama queen making it a big deal out of nothing though did say he didn't expect it to be that big when I sent him the pic!! WIBU if this spider got its way in again to capture it in a tub and wait til bfs here dozing off to sleep and then unleash it to crawl over his face to see if it's not such a big deal!?

Yes this is lighthearted and really just a reason to say look at how gross that spider is! ShockGrin

When we moved in to our house it had empty for a while. Every evening for about 4 nights, 4 or 5 new ones would run across the floor having been disturbed by our presence. (I know they were new as all previous monsters were swiftly dispatched of)
I'm irrationally terrified of them, my heart beats fast, I start sweating.
I have one of those plug in things too and don't ever really see any these days.

KhaleesiMotherofCats · 03/06/2017 08:59

But how do the spindly ones eat the monsters?

Presumably they would have to take many, many small meals out of one because their bodies are so tiny they wouldn't be able to eat much?

I've never actually figured out how the spindly ones survive - they just seem to hang around in corners for months without even moving in my house?

WinterRose92 · 03/06/2017 09:00

Fuck that. That is terrifying!

barefoofdoctor · 03/06/2017 09:00

My pussy (cat) would have eaten it so you definitely weren't being a pussy.

GerundTheBehemoth · 03/06/2017 09:02

Those things are not fangs or eyes - they're its pedipalps. You'll need to take a much, much closer photo for a good look at its fangs and eyes Grin

Those spindly things are spiders? I thought of them as an ethereal type harmless cousin kind of things lol but to think they actually eat the huge spiders!! Shock

Dear god! Just looking at all these photos has made me sweat profusely! I'm absolutely terrified of the things (totally irrational, I know) and have had full blown panic attacks when I've come across large ones running around my house. My DP loves them and thinks they're really cute. He has a big one living in his bedroom at the moment and he enjoys watching it crawling around at night Shock

Thingvellir · 03/06/2017 11:28

The single useful contribution my cats make to the house is eating all the spiders. If I spot a spider I just plonk a cat next to it. And it's not the same as killing them myself because it's the circle of life Wink

Teddy6767 · 03/06/2017 11:31

My cat is terrible when it comes to the big spiders. He just pats them and chases them around the room which makes me even more terrified

BabyLedWhining · 03/06/2017 11:51

Don't be a pussy and be a man are still offensive, why would they not be because you're a man? "That's so gay" said to a straight person is OK by the same logic.

And yes, to killing with fire all spiders on this thread. How can house spiders die when outside though? Confused They're wild animals who came in your house from outside?

BabyLedWhining · 03/06/2017 11:53

Teddy, I hope you have no intention of ever moving in with this man as he's clearly insane

barrygetamoveonplease · 03/06/2017 11:54

Ooh, my old house was full of those. Current house has the spindly cellar spiders. No cellar, though, just the spiders.

charlie20167 · 03/06/2017 11:56

OMG ShockShockShock that is fucking massive!

KC225 · 03/06/2017 11:58

What's with the extra long front leg?

I am not afraid of spiders but as a rule of thumb I believe it's perfectly acceptable to be afraid anything with thighs.

ScarlettFreestone · 03/06/2017 11:59

You are all big wusses and I'm embarrassed on your behalf. My 9 yos put out spiders without any fuss.

You're in the UK, it's not poisonous.

Think how scared it is of you

crazykitten20 · 03/06/2017 12:04

Am I over reacting to say get rid of bf? So little compassion!!! That 🕷 is evil. I can tell. 😳😳😳

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 03/06/2017 12:26

I have tried desperately to not let DD be afraid of spiders. It hasn't worked.

That's the thing with irrational fears Scarlett, they're irrational. We are all aware that we are being ridiculous because it's just a spider but we can't help it!

milliemolliemou · 03/06/2017 13:46

Love spiders. Think you've got a Cardinal OP. Was brought up in a place they could seriously do harm so we're lucky here in the UK.

Try this to identify (arachnophobes watch out) though I worry it gives advice on how to prevent them.

Sorry doesn't appear to link but copy. No one in the family minds them but I do ask DH to deal with hornets.

MissionItsPossible · 03/06/2017 15:02

milliemolliemou thank you for the link but I don't wish to see pictures of spiders at this very moment lol. What would make a Cardinal not poisonous in this country that they would be in another country if they are the same (I'm going by the logic a black widow spider would be a black widow spider anywhere and poisonous)?

A big beasty thing like that ran out from under my sofa last night, making the cat do one of those weird jump in the air twisty things that cats do and scarper out of the room whilst trying to enlarge herself to scare it.

What the fuck is the point in having a cat if it doesn't eat spiders Angry

Going to trade her in for a spidereating model I think

Bluesrunthegame · 03/06/2017 16:41

I'll just leave this here.

I'm totally terrified of spiders, except the silly spindly daddy long legs ones. The boyfriend would be history by now for being so unkind.

Gileswithachainsaw · 03/06/2017 16:48

Aw I think he's quite cute actually. You should name him.

AdalindSchade · 03/06/2017 16:50

Spiders aren't attracted to noise Hmm
And they do fine outside. They are called house spiders because they are often found in houses, not because houses are their natural habitat. They find more prey outside so putting them out is friendly.
