Let May was shockingly bad be her election epitaph.

Theworldisfullofidiots · 02/06/2017 21:56

Personally I think trident is a pointless waste of money. So we say...we will blow up our millions of pounds worth of weapon and destroy the environment. Germany has no nuclear deterrent.

PlayOnWurtz · 02/06/2017 21:56

I'm perfectly fine. Just got pain in my thumbs so being concise. Grin

Malfoyy · 02/06/2017 21:58

He's won me over and I was hating him a few weeks ago

PlayOnWurtz · 02/06/2017 21:59

Education: if everyone goes to university then that effectively makes an undergrad degree a requirement for an entry level post that previously required GCSE's (it's what happened under the last Labour government when they last put that idea forward) it devalues education when it's meant to be a way for employers to choose suitable candidates and skill people for the workforce.

MoominFlaps · 02/06/2017 21:59

He's doing brilliantly, really don't understand why people want him to say he'd happily drop a nuclear bomb. Fucking idiots.

nina2b · 02/06/2017 22:00

May is not the only one to do turnarounds, it seems. He was pretty impressive.

ilovesooty · 02/06/2017 22:00

Ffs.

cardibach · 02/06/2017 22:01

Good point theworld. Your name is highly relevant here.

AppleMagic · 02/06/2017 22:02

We were impressed in my house and I was very sceptical about him previously. It would be so easy for him to have said yes, in the event of a nuclear strike I would strike back. So I thought he came across as very principled.

fuckwitery · 02/06/2017 22:03

Commit to scrapping it. Or commit to being a first responder. Anything in between is where the waste of money lies. No?

OP posts:
VeuveLilies · 02/06/2017 22:03

I think it's ridiculously naive to think that he could possibly give an answer to "when would you press the button"
Imagine the negotiations, stress, pressure. No? Don't think anyone could imagine it.

cardibach · 02/06/2017 22:05

Ffs what sooty?

Mummamayhem · 02/06/2017 22:05

I've never voted labour (or tory) but I will absolutely be voting for corbyn. I feel so relieved that someone is finally standing up for people instead of finances.

McTufty · 02/06/2017 22:05

Obviously the thought of a nuclear bomb being set off by anyone is horrifying, but it's facile to suggest supporting trident is being "keen to kill millions of people".

I believe mutually assured destruction has kept the world at large safe for the last few decades, and it simply won't work if those in charge of our nuclear arsenal make clear they're not prepared to use it.

Perhaps that's too nuanced for Corbyn to understand.

YeahILoveSummer · 02/06/2017 22:05

"why's everyone so keen to kill millions of people"
This lady was exactly right.

GreenGinger2 · 02/06/2017 22:05

We thought he was awful, really weak and wishy washy. Very disappointed.

He never answers the questions. I find the thought of him in power terrifying. Really wanted to be reassured.

fuckwitery · 02/06/2017 22:05

Thanks play. Think I already apologised for typo. You carry on being perfect.

OP posts:
PossomInAPearTree · 02/06/2017 22:07

I think saying you wouldn't press it first but if someone else pressed their button then you would respond then that's still a deterrent.

If country A wanted to nuke country B and knew that B couldn't/wouldn't do anything then they go ahead. If they know that nuking country B means they will then be nuked they may well decide it's not a good action.

eurochick · 02/06/2017 22:08

I think he performed pretty well. It's a shame so many of his policies are bobbins.

TM had a harder job. Incumbents always do. She started quite strongly but was really flagging towards the end end.

I don't think I'll be voting for either of them.

PossomInAPearTree · 02/06/2017 22:08

I don't think he did make it clear he wouldn't be prepared to use it. Not at all. He said he wouldn't press the button first. That's not saying he wouldn't use it.

LuluJakey1 · 02/06/2017 22:08

TMs answer to the nurse who earns the same now as she did in 2009 exemplified the Tories view of public services 'Well we had to make some hard choices' So we chose to give tax breaks to the rich and make the rich richer and nurses, teachers got 1% and are effectively worse off in real terms???????

LuluJakey1 · 02/06/2017 22:10

And all the middle aged, right wing old fools on nuclear weapons were embarrassing and put to shame by the young woman and her comment.

Guepe · 02/06/2017 22:10

I've not been a big Corbyn fan, but I think he's done generally well throughout the campaign.

Unfortunately, I'm sure this trident stuff will be all over the front pages tomorrow. It's sad that, to some people, a hypothetical nuclear war is a more pressing issue than all the stuff that's actually happening in the real world. It will cost him some votes.

HeidiSpeidi · 02/06/2017 22:10

I thought the pressing on trident was bordering on moronic, summed up by the lady who spoke up. Of course he doesn't want to press the button, who the fuck would want to press the button?! It's a deterrent and a bloody good one imo.

A guy in the audience said that the government paid North Korea £4m last year, then another used NK as an example of someone who would press their button first. The irony!
