It says recommend age from 6 but not sure if they just have to say that to cover themselves. She needs a new bed badly (currently in toddler size bed) and has a small room so really want to maximise storage. She's big and tall and very physically capable, just not sure how she would be when half asleep etc.

I would put my 3.5 year old in that, he'd love it!!

QueenArseClangers · 02/06/2017 19:53

I would for my 3.5 year old DD. Doesn't look too high and if she's a confident climber/won't dick about then I'd get it.

emochild · 02/06/2017 19:54

£500 and it doesn't include a mattress?????

Shock
SummerMummy88 · 02/06/2017 19:56

No I wouldn't, not because it's not nice but because when she needs a wee in the night your expecting her to climb down ladders in the dark? Also if they did manage to go up and down the ladder in the dark and scramble back into bed I think she would be wide awake after. It would be like us as adults doing a mini assault course in the night. It is lovely though.

Whoami24601 · 02/06/2017 19:56

We got DD the high sleeper from IKEA when she was about 2.5. We intended to have it as a low bed for a couple of years, but when we were building it she saw the picture of it high up and asked for it that way! I let her on the provision that she could prove to me she could get up and down, which she did with ease. She's nearly 5 now, and we've never had a problem with it. Though we have had friends over who have needed a little help getting up and down.

Bubblysqueak · 02/06/2017 19:57

I would but I think I would want a bit more flexible storage. We've got the slide and tent bed from Very with ikea storage underneath for my ds who is 3 and just bought another for 5yr old (plus it's (£190) and you can get extra £20 off if you open an account.

Faithless12 · 02/06/2017 19:58

I wouldn't but my five year old is capable of throwing himself over me when he is asleep and I'm trying to stop him. He literally has no awareness so I'd be terrified he'd throw himself out or he'd fall down the stairs when half asleep.

wheresthel1ght · 02/06/2017 19:58

Dd has a similar one and has done since she was 3. She loves it and has no issues whatsoever getting up to go for a wee.

Jupitar · 02/06/2017 20:00

I thought it was going to be a high sleeper, the midi ones are great, so I vote get it 👍🏻

Bubblysqueak · 02/06/2017 20:01

Sorry it's now £170 . The first bed we bought has toy storage and play area under the tent which nicely hides it.

You can buy similar design mid sleepers that have a sort of staircase rather than a ladder which is easier for young children to navigate, I think Stompa is one brand that have these.

AppleMagic · 02/06/2017 20:02

No I wouldn't and my 3yr old is tall and very good at climbing. But sometimes he has nightmares/night terrors and I wouldn't like him to be climbing down in the night.

Also, dd (5) does have a midsleeper and sometimes I've let him on it during the day and he's not really able to remember the simple safety rules (no running about up there etc). Could you guarantee that your three your old wouldn't bounce on the bed etc if she wakes up early? I'm confident my 5 year old knows that is a bad idea but my 3 year old? - not so much.

Moregilmoregirls · 02/06/2017 20:03

We got bunk beds for my 3.5 yr old as he may be sharing with his baby brother in a few years, they are similar height to that one from funbeds.com

He's been fine with it, started sleeping in bottom but now will sleep up top happily, it does have solid steps though as opposed to a ladder.

ICanTuckMyBoobsInMyPockets · 02/06/2017 20:04

The ladder doesn't look great.

The steps are very narrow, I think it would be sore on little feet?

AppleMagic · 02/06/2017 20:05

If you do get one get a much thinner mattress than they show on the picture.

WinterWinds001 · 02/06/2017 20:06

My 3 year old would be fine but he never gets up in the night so id not have to worry about that.

Agree though there are similar ones with staircases instead of ladders and id choose that first.

Justdontgetitatall · 02/06/2017 20:07

£500?????? That is going to look very grubby very quickly. Kids & white surfaces = Hmm

Bear2014 · 02/06/2017 20:08

Hmm thanks for replies so far. She's never had a wee in the night that I can remember but does come and get into our bed sometimes. I'm hoping that if her bed is really lovely she won't as much though.

Like the Stompa ones too, even though they are more ££. We've literally never bought her a piece of furniture before as she's had all hand me downs so happy to splurge a little Smile

emo that was my first thought

Guepe · 02/06/2017 20:11

When I was in school, one of my classmates (aged 11) died.

Bunk bed injuries aren't uncommon, and children under 6 are at particular risk.

I wouldn't buy it if I were you.

Guepe · 02/06/2017 20:11

Sorry, meant to post this link

3boys3dogshelp · 02/06/2017 20:11

I wouldn't have a problem with a mid sleeper but I wouldn't pick that one because of the steps. I think they would hurt her feet.

MTBMummy · 02/06/2017 20:14

We moved DD into a similar bed just before her 4th birthday and she loved it

I believe high sleepers (ie height of a standard top bunk) do have to have a restriction of 6+ but a midi sleeper like that she'll be fine

Catminion · 02/06/2017 20:16

My DD had the IKEA version with the slide when she was just 3 and loved it.

VinIsGroot · 02/06/2017 20:18

Try Steen's .… we have one of those and much more sturdy. Can also be changed into a low bed when they get older! The ladder is the main problem with this bed!
