It says recommend age from 6 but not sure if they just have to say that to cover themselves. She needs a new bed badly (currently in toddler size bed) and has a small room so really want to maximise storage. She's big and tall and very physically capable, just not sure how she would be when half asleep etc.

We bought the stompa (midi) for ds for his second birthday. He loved it from the moment he saw it and refuses to sleep in any other bed - including ours!

At night we take him to the toilet around 10, so we've never had to worry about him getting out at night.

He is now almost 3.5 and we have never had any problems with it. Even my 1.5 year old knows how to climb up and down safely.

I say go for it!

I would (and did) - I also put ds1 in a top bunk age 4 when we found out ds2 was on his way. He's been able to climb up and down with ease though it helped to have a step stool under bottom step of ladder as it was a big step up iyswim

This one is £339 in white or beech but suggests 6yrs+

The desk and chair both slot underneath if not required.

We bought this similar one for our DS when he was 3. He loves it - particularly the 'cave' underneath where his soft toys now live! The staircase is the middle is easy for him to climb

I'd guess my sister would have been fine in it at that age because she was very good at climbing.
However personally I wouldn't get it, as I would worry about them climbing out when tired or that (if they needed the toilet in the night for instance.)

We put DS in a high sleeper aged 4, no problem at all, only issue is finding one with wide enough steps not to be sore on little feet. We got ours for £50 on a local eBay type site. Worth looking for.

Shock That one with the slide Shock

I already have trouble keeping DD in bed. I can only imagine how little she'd be in it with THIS bed!! Grin

Some great ideas here...good thread!

My son had a mid sleeper from Thuka at about age 4. It had a sloped ladder with hand rails which I felt more comfortable with than the straight up ladder.

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 02/06/2017 23:37

I wouldn't but I wouldn't for my five year old who is dyspraxic either.

We had one for dd when she was 3. She never messed around... could climb down easily... never gets up in the night etc.
We got rid after two months and got a lovely normal single. I missed cuddling up and reading books at bedtime. I could get up on the sleeper but it was awkward. Also... when they're ill it's tricky with buckets I'd imagine.
Finally it's next to impossible to lift them in if they've fallen asleep elsewhere. Oh and it is a bugger to change the bed or make it.
And also it actually made a small room look even smaller as it's a big piece of furniture. Dds room looks much bigger now and there's a foot of clearance under for popping toys etc.

My 3 year old niece has a bed like that she loves she has no problem getting in and out of it she uses her toy dressing table to get up and down because that child has no bloody fear.
