AIBU to feel overwhelmed by shopping for first baby?

DH and I are expecting our first child. I'm currently about 12 weeks pregnant so I figured at some point I'm going to actually have to start purchasing baby things.

The very concept of shopping for a baby seems very overwhelming right now, I have no idea where to start and it's making me feel completely clueless when it comes to babies - almost like if I can't even manage to shop, how on earth will I cope with a little one?

Any suggestions would be incredibly welcome.

If I had my time again I think I would buy a lot more second hand stuff. Nearly new sales, eBay, Facebook selling groups you can get stuff for next to nothing and most of it is hardly used (I've sold on some second hand things I bought). Just buy new mattress and car seat and any nice bits you like. We did buy a new video baby monitor (well, two now as one broke), steriliser and electric breast pump, and I did use a cot top changer and bath seat but these were both given to me. We had far too many clothes, we got given loads and we bought some. Never saw the point of muslins!
I felt the same way about being clueless about looking after my baby but I figured it out, most things are common sense. Good luck, you'll be fine.

Book a John Lewis baby list appointment- they'll sort it all for you and no obligation to buy!
