To wonder if anyone can explain why Theresa May is refusing to do any live interviews when she called this election?

As far as I can see TM called this GE because she arrogantly assumed she'd walk it.

Unfortunately for her JC has upped his game and every time someone poses a question to her she rattles off some soundbite starting with 'let me be clear...' and completely ignores he question.

Can anyone defend the fact that she wouldn't participate in the live tv debate and now won't do any radio interviews either?

Shouldn't we be able to expect more from a PM?

Sorry for the multiple posts!

M1nesasweetsh3rry · 02/06/2017 20:52

I'm sick to death hearing about fucking Brexit and the will of the people!!
What about education, NHS social care??

MaybeNextWeek · 02/06/2017 20:54

'What about education, NHS social care??'
Do you expect it all to be covered in the first 15mins?

surferjet · 02/06/2017 21:07

All these televised 'live debates' are utter crap. It's American showbizzie nonsense that achieves nothing.
Some people are just not brilliant at this sort of thing, & that includes politicians, but that doesn't mean they're useless fgs!

  • ( you don't even know the names of the people who really run the country btw. )
sodablackcurrant · 02/06/2017 21:13

surferjet,

There is no debate. May is not capable of debating. We can hear the "very clearly", "will of the people" "strong negotiator" shite at every turn, but that is showing us nothing.

Whether it is a circus or not is irrelevant. Voters want to see how candidates operate in a tough environment. No chance of that with May now is there?

So we will never know how she might manage in the cut and thrust of debate about Brexit over yonder in Brussels will we?

But I suppose she will put one side in one room, and the other in another and will moderate from the hallway with an earpiece in her ear.

PlinkyTheFairyWitch · 02/06/2017 21:16

Jezza's up now. First thing he said was a dig at TM for not debating.

Bearbehind · 02/06/2017 21:19

To be fair TM did better than I expected but my expectations are pretty low.

I just can't get my head round the fact she is so blatantly blaming everyone who voted Leave for the clusterfuck that we are heading towards and people are accepting that.

OP posts:
MyOtherProfile · 02/06/2017 21:19

Marked contrast between May and Corbyn already. She persisted with her smug smiles and head shaking, focussing on criticising other people while not really answering the questions. Jezza is just getting on with the questions.

surferjet · 02/06/2017 21:23

Sorry, you're completely wrong.
How people act in private can be very different to how they act in public.
She could be the best negotiator the world has ever seen for all you know, but because she doesn't provide you with half an hours 'entertainment' you write her off?
Thankfully, most of us see these debates for what they are.

Bearbehind · 02/06/2017 21:25

I very much doubt she's the best negiotiater in the world surfer, she's already pissed off just about every person she's dealt with.

Oh god Corbyn . Such BS

PedaloBar · 02/06/2017 21:28

I'm liking his answers.

Mistletoekids · 02/06/2017 21:29

Because he hasn't actually said anything

sodablackcurrant · 02/06/2017 21:30

Bear,

I believe she thinks that's a tactic. To frighten and piss off the EU negotiators. Look at me I am stronger than all of you, and you need us just as much as we need you, yada yada.

I do hope Britain gets a reasonable deal, but she is up against it really, and as a remainer, is her heart really in it I often wonder. But optics work don't they?

PlinkyTheFairyWitch · 02/06/2017 21:30

This isn't about entertainment for me. This is about the future of our country. We are making some serious ideological changes and I believe it is the single most important issue of our time.

The very least the prime minister can do is show up and make her case. Why on earth wouldn't she?

I agree with Bear - she did better than I expected, but when Jezza came on, the difference was palpable.

The woman crying as she spoke about her disability assessment - TM could have said she'd meet her after the show to go through her experience with her - she didn't. She just grinned a bit at her while saying she made no excuses.

Mistletoekids · 02/06/2017 21:30

He's not actually answering any of the questions!

Bearbehind · 02/06/2017 21:33

mistletoes are you watching the same programme as me?

OP posts:
ComingUpTrumps · 02/06/2017 21:33

Sorry if this has already been answered.

My question is why is TM apparently unwilling to appear in these TV debates when she already has plenty of experience of debating from PMQs?

I'm guessing she might be briefed beforehand on what she could say in PMQs though. Is this correct?

GreenGinger2 · 02/06/2017 21:35

But how Jeremy? God he sounds so amateur, like a sixth former campaigning in a school election.

I really want to like him but frankly the thought of him in power terrifies me.

surferjet · 02/06/2017 21:35

Tbh Bearbehind - TM could become the next Jesus & you'd find fault with her.
We get it, you hate her - maybe there's a back story to your hatred? disgruntled ex employee or something like that? - your constant criticism of her is a bit obsessive. I know you despise all things Brexit & she's the one who's got the job, but you have to understand that someone has to do it. If it isn't her it will be someone else!

sodablackcurrant · 02/06/2017 21:36

@Plinky,

For a Tory PM to acknowledge that certain cohorts are struggling would just not be cricket. For their audience you see.

Whereas they should be involving everyone.

Such divisiveness already between haves and have nots.

And Brexit negotiations haven't even started.

I agree very much with your point about Brexit being a HUGE issue for this generation.

The War was one of them for the previous generation,. Brexit will be the other for this generations and those to come aswell.

GreenGinger2 · 02/06/2017 21:38

Good relations don't really cut it with dictators.Hmm

Bearbehind · 02/06/2017 21:39

surfer you're sounding a bit rattled love.

Is it not quite going how you wanted?

Bearbehind · 02/06/2017 21:40

Most odd that a couple of posters have popped up on a thread about TM just to slag off JC? Hmm
