Diva cups

DaffodilUpsurper · 01/06/2017 20:34

Am I the only one using Diva menstrual cups? I have started using the Diva cups and I just think they are bloody fantastic (excuse the pun!) I have used them now for a while and have not been able to discuss it as I'm too embarrassed. Honestly they are so much better than tampons. I'm saving so much money too. No dryness / itching and no leaking. I'm just so impressed. I once mentioned it to a group of friends and they all looked at me like some sort of gross alien. I've kept quiet since but would love to hear some views on those that have tried it. I read some bad online reviews originally about having trouble about getting it out and what proceeded to be a bit of a scary disaster zone but none of that happened for me. Is anyone else using them? What are your thoughts?

Thanks in advance

I use a Mooncup and I bloody love it. Much easier to use than sanitary towels and tampons. So much cheaper too.

Sunshinegirls · 01/06/2017 20:38

I've used a mooncup for a few years. Love it, wish I'd know about them sooner.

miniloco · 01/06/2017 20:39

Would love to use one, tried a mooncup after my first daughter. Not sure if I got the wrong size or if my darling daughter has permanently ruined my body in more ways than one but it felt like it was falling out. Bit reluctant to spend more money on an alternative if it'll feel the same.
I'm not sure why they're not talked about as an option from an early age.

youaredeluded · 01/06/2017 20:40

Love my mooncup! So amazing!!! Could never go back to pads and tampons now, would feel so gross.

Krispiesquare · 01/06/2017 20:40

I was using one until I felt like I'd pulled all my giblets out post DC3 so the Dr suggested I stick to pads Blush

fanfrickintastic · 01/06/2017 20:42

I used a moon cup pre DS and loved it. Now my fanny is broken so can't use anything so I'm on cerezette so I don't get any periods!

StillDrivingMeBonkers · 01/06/2017 20:43

I must ask. Cups. Public toilets. You need to change it. I'm going to regret this: how do you get a cup of blood to the sink to wash it out, with an audience and back to the cubicle again, but here goes Grin

DownWithThisSortaThing · 01/06/2017 20:45

I've started using one in the last few months, it took me a few days the first time to get the hang of putting it in properly but now it's easy and it's so much better than pads or tampons! I used to dread coming on and having to faff around with pads, changing them at work etc or running out. Now I barely have to think about it. Just wish I'd tried them sooner!

PeaFaceMcgee · 01/06/2017 20:45

Love my Mooncup. I have a hand crocheted woollen 'womb' it lives in too!

I have average flow and only change it every 12 hours bonkers - but other people if emptying it in loo, take in a bottle of water with them, or just give it a wipe over with loo roll before reinserting.

PeaFaceMcgee · 01/06/2017 20:46

(you empty it in the loo, not the sink, to clarify)

PurpleMinionMummy · 01/06/2017 20:48

I used to love my mooncup. I found it too uncomfortable after my last dc though. Then someone pointed me in the direction of luna shorty and that's great too. Not so great on days out with no sink in the cubicle but I can live with that.

TuddlesAndSisses · 01/06/2017 20:49

I have a diva cup and I absolutely love it, never going back to tampons

RapunzelsRealMom · 01/06/2017 20:52

I have a diva cup and it's great when it's first in, but I find it 'falls out' after a while. I have to go to the loo and push it back up.

It must be 5 children that have ruined me Wink but if anyone has any tips...

Bobbins43 · 01/06/2017 20:54

In public toilets, I empty it out into a wodge of loo roll to soak it up and then flush that. Wipe around the cup and re-insert.

I also have a mental list of loos that have sinks in the cubicles too :)

Funko · 01/06/2017 20:54

Duchess cup here. Reduction in period pains by 99%
No rank sweaty periody smells.

Mostly don't remember I'm on my period at all and I am super heavy flow.

Will NEVER use tampons ever again.

DesignedForLife · 01/06/2017 20:55

StillDriving - you take a bottle of water and clean it into the toilet.

Not getting on post DC2. Feel like it's falling out Shock

Polly2345 · 01/06/2017 20:55

Love my mooncup. Know what you mean re people looking funny if you mention it. Have a heavy flow so have always used pads for first two days (natracare pads don't make me itch but they are expensive) - then I switch to mooncup. Didn't use mooncup for quite a while after DD born but getting back into using it now.

In public toilets: empty down loo, then either have small bottle of water to rinse it over the loo or just wipe with loo roll.

DaffodilUpsurper · 01/06/2017 20:58

There are different sizes. Diva I think is for Pre children or c-sections. I've had two c-sections and it seems to stay put. I don't know what the other ones are called but they are slightly bigger.

I know about the sink thing, usually I keep it in for 12 hours but if on a particularly heavy day and I know it needs changing I just empty it in the toilet and then give it a wipe over with an Andrex wipe I carry in my bag. I wouldn't use toilet paper in public toilets to wipe it and put it back in - I'm a little hygiene freak....i like the water bottle idea though!
Thanks for all the replies!!

rapunzel you could try a different brand? I didn't realise how many there were til I researched it! I use a duchess cup which I don't think is on this picture.. it's interesting how many different sizes and shapes there are!

I used one for years and liked it. Now I find it very painful and the relief I feel when I remove it is immense. Not for me, I'm afraid.

cauliflowercheese14 · 01/06/2017 21:03

I adore my mooncup - less pain, lighter flow, no leaks, no waste. I use a bottle of water to rinse it if I'm in a public loo.

Gatehouse77 · 01/06/2017 21:03

Any loo without a sink (some houses too), I tip into the toilet (as I would anywhere) and then wipe it with loo roll. It's good enough until I get home but I avoid if possible.

PeaFaceMcgee · 01/06/2017 21:08

Oh yeah - periods are definitely more comfortable now with Mooncup. Obvs cut the stalk off. Felt like I was sitting on spike!

Wallywobbles · 01/06/2017 21:47

I find mine doesn't always pop open (I fold it to put it in) so then I get leaks.

So I bought one that looks like a femmycycle, but isn't, and it kind of rotates round so it's a devil to remove because I can't get the handle, but doesn't leek because it has a rim that folds inside itself.

I'm still looking for the perfect one though.

Mallowmarshmallow · 01/06/2017 21:54

Can someone explain to me in wayyyy too much detail how these work?

I am crap at using tampons, I'm 34 and have only started using them in the last year or so but I'm basically like a 13 year old girl and just can't do it properly. I can't get them high enough or something.

But I hate sanitary towels.

Am I grown up enough to use something like this instead?! Grin
