DS is a mature 12 (almost 13) and DD is 10 1/2 years old. We have tickets for us all for an upcoming live show. The kids really love him, laugh like crazy when they watched him on his TV big show, plus they have seen other youtube clips of him. Yes, it's a bit late and a school night but we thought it would be a great treat for them. But, now I am having second thoughts, how rude do his jokes generally go? Would you take your kids of a similar age to see him?

It's his @Big World Tour@, but I Know that's only just started.

It's 14+ due to swearing.

FlossyMooToo · 01/06/2017 19:03

He does swear in his live shows.
If you are ok with that then no worries.

PeaFaceMcgee · 01/06/2017 19:27

I'm not sure I'd be wanting to sit next to a 10yo at a sweary rude comedy gig OP, sorry. I'd just want to enjoy myself!

As a performer it's can be really off-putting when you clock young ones in the audience. Probably not a problem in a large stadium venue, unless they're right at the front!

Live comedy is nothing like TV x

From what I've seen on TV the content of his show is a lot 'cleaner' than most others eg Jimmy Carr.

WardrobeMalfunction · 01/06/2017 20:08

Well, he does a bit about "birthday blow-jobs" in one of his routines, to give you an idea. Not suitable for pre-teens, IMO.

pinkblink · 01/06/2017 20:15

We went to his last tour and someone had their 8 year old in the front row, he made a bit of a point of it, had a little laugh and tried to not swear, it didn't affect the show much but I imagine half the jokes went over her head

AndNowItIsSeven · 01/06/2017 20:23

No you have to be 14 minimum , personally I would say 16.

PutThatPomBearBack · 01/06/2017 20:44

Just let them carry on watching him on tv until they are actually old enough.

Leeds2 · 01/06/2017 20:46

I wouldn't take my DC of that age. Nor would I want to be sat next to a 10 year old, if I'm honest.

nokidshere · 01/06/2017 21:26

YABU to take children when I can't get any ticketsShock

Which venue is it? And let me know if you are selling them GrinGrin

SouthWestmom · 01/06/2017 22:22

Oh god this reminds me of going to a lee Nelson gig where someone had taken their 14 year old. Kid got picked on (didn't realise LN actively seems to seek out and then chat to teenagers at his gigs) and thought he was special throughout. Cringe for us with all the adult jokes.

Tbh I go to comedy gigs to be with adults and not watch my language and have a drink. Might as well go to see Matilda if I wanted to hang out where kids are going to be.

caffeinestream · 01/06/2017 22:25

I think 10yo is too young. 12 nearly 13 would be okay.

I don't think it's really a children's thing though. Comedy shows are very much an adult atmosphere.

ZanyMobster · 01/06/2017 22:45

He said cunt when we went to see him. I would take a mature 13/14 year old but it would depend on what sort of stuff they usually watches etc.

PlaymobilPirate · 01/06/2017 22:48

Yabu. It's adult entertainment - there's enough aimed at kids. I've just booked tickets to see Micky Flanagan and I'd be really pissed off if I was sat next to a kid.

Tootsiepops · 01/06/2017 22:51

I totally cannot imagine Michael McIntyre saying cunt. His voice is so posh!

ThatsNotMyMummy · 01/06/2017 22:53

I wouldn't take the 10 year old, I would consider the 12/13 year old. I'm fairly relaxed about taking my kids to stuff, and he's a better choice than a lot of comedians. But I don't think it's appropriate for the 10 year old

I have just checked, and the age restriction is 14.

Quimby · 01/06/2017 23:08

Tbf you have to tell us what they did if we're to judge if this is a suitable punishment.

My gut instinct would be its way too harsh

RapunzelsRealMom · 01/06/2017 23:30

He's not Frankie Boyle but he is much ruder in his live shows than on TV - swearing, talk of low jobs, sex, etc.

I wouldn't take kids that age

WyfOfBathe · 01/06/2017 23:34

YABU. If age restriction is 14, I can't imagine you'd be able to sneak in a 10 year old even assuming they don't ID.

Would your DC not find it awkward sitting next to their parents while they listen to jokes about blowjobs? And wouldn't you find it awkward sitting next to your DC?

I think that there should be a 14+ rule for most standup shows for the reasons already outlined. I'd find sitting next to a 10y old quite odd.

Empireoftheclouds · 02/06/2017 00:32

Fucking hell are you serious

Can you not just get a sitter and go with your OH/mates? Why on earth would you want to take a 12yo let alone a 10yo to an adult show??(

It's not just the swearing words, it's the content Shock
