DS is a mature 12 (almost 13) and DD is 10 1/2 years old. We have tickets for us all for an upcoming live show. The kids really love him, laugh like crazy when they watched him on his TV big show, plus they have seen other youtube clips of him. Yes, it's a bit late and a school night but we thought it would be a great treat for them. But, now I am having second thoughts, how rude do his jokes generally go? Would you take your kids of a similar age to see him?

It's his @Big World Tour@, but I Know that's only just started.

I have seen him live. It's 14 for a reason. I wouldn't take them. I certainly wouldn't take the 10 year old.

disneykid · 02/06/2017 00:36

He will be making sex jokes and god knows what else... why would you want to take your 10 year old? Won't it be awkward?

I felt awkward hearing 'adult jokes' on the telly, with friends, at around that age.. let alone sat next to my mum/Dad. Even all the swearing is bad enough at 10.

The restrictions are normally 14+ anyway so don't even think they'll be allowed to go.

YABU. Children should not be in attendance at adult comedy shows.

Nobody wants to be the person sat next to some random 10 year old.

So, it's unanimous all round that IABVU in bringing them!
Thanks for replying, everyone! We live overseas, in Europe and I checked when I booked and I could see no age restriction.
I can get over the swearing part, but jokes with a sexual nature would make me feel uncomfortable, with the older one, it would go over the younger one's head I guess. I just find him so clean usually and his jokes usually relate to everyday situations. I'll bring some friends instead - but of course the kids will be really disappointed!

Although he's perhaps 'cleaner' than a lot of other comedians his TV appearances are a lot more toned down than you'd see at a live show, as with most comedians.

That is because he is on prime time tv.

caffeinestream · 02/06/2017 08:53

He's family friendly on TV but live is a different story. He's certainly one of the cleaner comedians, but I don't think a live comedy show is the right place for a 10yo.

Don't waste your time. It clearly states an age restriction of 14+, which means that your children either won't be allowed in or will be asked to leave the moment another adult spots that they are under age. Comedians have to tone down their acts on TV as anyone can watch. They are all different on stage - the wonderful Sarah Millican is a classic example.

AtMidnight · 02/06/2017 09:57

No. He's terrible. Comedy for people who hate comedy.

ZanyMobster · 02/06/2017 12:01

Tootsie that's why it was so funny, he did this big long story type joke and ended it by saying cunt. No one was expecting it all!

This does really irritate me, there are so many comedians on prime time tv who do pretty rude stand up. Why do people not check? My parents went to see an older well known 'blue' comedian years ago who was also a presenter on prime time tv, people actually shouted out at him and walked out as it was rude, it clearly stated over 18s only. Crazy!

Keepthebloodynoisedown · 02/06/2017 23:36

I'd feel really uncomfortable sitting next to a 10yo at something like that.
He swears more than on tv, and although he is tame compared to other comedians, he still makes a lot of sexual references.
If your still not sure why not watch one of his stand up dvds and see how you feel about it.
