To be mad that this Eurostar staff member punched my arm

Last week, I was taking the Eurostar at St-Pancras. I was going to the machine where you put your passport for a check (sorry, no idea how you call it it. The automatic doors that open after your passport is scanned). There was barely anyone so no chaos. A lane was empty and I walked towards it with my passport and started to put it to be scanned when the agent working there punched me in the arm, saying I have to wait. I was a bit shocked and half asleep so I didn't say anything and took a step back. He then grabbed my passport and put it in the machine for me. I might have tried to put it too early, it was the first time I used those doors, but still not a reason to hit me.
I walked away and after some minutes, my arm still aching. I went to complain at the desk. The Eutostar employees told me he shouldn't have done that and gave me an email to complain to. I did send an email soon after.

In the evening I realised I had a little bruise.

I haven't heard back from Eurostar yet

AIBU to be so upset that he did this to me? Eurostar staff are always a bit aggressive but I always put up with it as it must be a stressful job. But I really think punching my arm, from behind with no reason (np interaction before or argument -not that it would excuse anything) is unacceptable. Or am I being a precious snowflake and I should just leave it at tha (I wasn't dragged out of the train after all, wink wink)?

Christ I would have punched him back instinctively! What a cock. Please take this as far as you can.

Paninotogo · 01/06/2017 16:20

Why have you said hit in your email to Eurostar? If you were punched (closed fist) there is absolutely no way this is accidental, whereas a hit could easily be an accident so maybe that is what they think?

IloveBanff · 01/06/2017 16:22

Wow! They are infuriating aren't they? Angry

WorldsacpeLove · 01/06/2017 16:22

@Paninotogo - this is similar to what I was told by police, the saving grace (for me) was that the person had drawn their harm back deliberately to put effort into hitting me. But I was told that a punch is close fisted. (sorry not sure if that's closed fisted or close fisted)

Justaboy · 01/06/2017 16:25

Complain to the police, they'll have CCTV there. What arrogant bastards and I bet their one of those outfits that have signs up saying that any abuse of their staff won't be tolerated.

They might ignore your mail but they won't ignore old bill! Just do it!

IloveBanff · 01/06/2017 16:26

OP, you need to make it clear that you were punched and have been left with pain and a bruise. Don't let them trick you into dropping it with their meaningless replies.

Bunnyhipsdontliegrl · 01/06/2017 16:28

I wasn't moving just standing there putting my passport in the machine. He definitelly hit me on the side of the arm. I am pretty sure it was his punch but went so fast it might have been the back of his hand.

Paninotogo · 01/06/2017 16:31

It sounds like he was over zealous, but if you are not sure what happened, it could have been accidental.

Bunnyhipsdontliegrl · 01/06/2017 16:31

It was definitelly hard and not an accudwnt. We were not moving, neithet of us. I know he hit me, but the "it must have been an accident" and the dibelief is what stops me calli g the police. I was in disbelief myself when he did it. It was clearly a hit to emphasise wht he was saying...

Doesn't really matter. No kind of aggressive physical contact is acceptable.

Your update is scandalous. Escalate this, OP, for the love of God.

RoseTico · 01/06/2017 16:33

Wow, what a bunch of wankers. Are all Eurostar staff that rude?

IloveBanff · 01/06/2017 16:34

I don't see how the back of his hand could've left a bruise. However he hit you it must have been very hard.

WorldsacpeLove · 01/06/2017 16:34

I would actually contact 101, you seem pretty certain it wasn't accidental and you were the one there

Bunnyhipsdontliegrl · 01/06/2017 16:35

Why does the back of the hand not leave a trace when it hits you?

Bunnyhipsdontliegrl · 01/06/2017 16:36

I am pretty decided to escalate this. I am a carpet but seriously, they are taking the piss

I would take a pic of the bruise, call police on 101 and tweet back that they are willfully misunderstanding you, you aren't offering feedback, you are complaining that a member of their staff assaulted you and due to their unwillingness to investigate you are reporting the matter to the police.

TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth · 01/06/2017 16:47

Agree to informing police, you have been assaulted. They are taking the piss royally.

Bringmewineandcake · 01/06/2017 16:49

That is appalling! Their first response seemed to be their standard paragraphs that appear in every complaint response without actually addressing your issue, but their second!!! Shock they might as well have written ODFOD.
Please escalate, this is unacceptable from start to finish.

ErnesttheBavarian · 01/06/2017 16:49

Are you calling the police or escalating it direct with Eurostar? Do you get the train often? Would you recognise him again, if it all happened so quickly?

Paninotogo · 01/06/2017 16:58

This all happened last week? So why are you only doing something about it now?

Plumpcious · 01/06/2017 17:00

Are you sure he was Eurostar staff? When I used those gates I got the impression they were staffed by French border agency staff (or whatever they're called), ie the French border staff who used to sit in the booth and check your passport manually. The UK border agency staff are still checking passports manually at St Pancras.

Other way round in Paris though: French border staff in the booths; UK border staff manning the electronic reader gates.

Dawndonnaagain · 01/06/2017 17:05

Re word it. 'A member of your staff has assaulted me'. That'll get a bloody fast reaction.

ohfourfoxache · 01/06/2017 17:08
Shock

Please contact the police asap, to increase the chance of them getting cctv if nothing else

OnTheRise · 01/06/2017 17:14

That's a dreadful response. I would report the incident to the police: you were assaulted. You've given them a chance to sort it out and they are glossing over it.
