To think "show me show me" is the creepiest program ever?

Two fully grown adults using teddies and stuff to pretend to play? It isn't so cringe to watch. There aren't even any children, just adults doing imaginative play.
Am I the only one that finds it hard to watch?

I really liked it when my dd was little. She didn't have any older siblings and I've never been very good at imaginative play. Show me show me opened up a whole world of imagination for her.

DoorbellsSleighbellsSchnitzel · 26/05/2017 07:32

Oh I loved Show Me Show me when my two were little. We went to see Chris & Pui live... twice. It was a big deal for me 😂

outputgap · 26/05/2017 07:33

It's lovely! It's pitched really well. It's about stuff kids recognise. Full of nice ideas, and I love Chris's Hey Diddle Cow ("how lucky you are to see me").

Leeloo2 · 26/05/2017 07:33

I don't watch this so much any more, as my kids are older and preferred the older showd where each episode the toys had their song that we used to sing and the kids would dance to. Tom's song was filmed in my local playground!! There was also a cute cartoon clip about Uki in each show too.

I do think it's a lovely programme though and I once saw Chris and Pui live and that was fab too. It's about using your imagination and learning more about something, in a way that's understandable to little children. (it also has the benefit of being quite long, so you can pop an episode on while you get jobs done).

TheFirstMrsDV · 26/05/2017 07:53

Its like the shows I watched as a kid.
Play Away etc were similar.
Grown ups (sometimes in dungarees) talking to stuffed toys of varying weirdness.

Vroomster · 26/05/2017 08:17

It's no different from Playschool.

TiffanyAtBreakfast · 26/05/2017 08:19

Oh god I agree about Pui's singing voice. Absolutely terrible.

MrsDV,

Here's a little nostalgia trip for you, then...

(And, yes, that truly is Baldrick Tony Robinson wearing the fetching tank top and bowl haircut).

Come Outside was my favourite.

Meatbadger · 26/05/2017 08:43

YABVU. It's a lovely programme. And surely I can't be the only one with a small crush on Chris Jarvis??

BertieBotts · 26/05/2017 08:51

I love it, but then I used to watch Playschool/Playdays when I was little and I adored that.

I think it's lovely and slow paced but still with some variety.

Lostmyunicorn · 26/05/2017 09:23

I think show me show me is brilliant - gentle, imaginative, no tech, no bells or whistles, lots of things that can easily be done at home (make a tree with a broom handle and some scarves type thing). I love the fact that pui can't sing well. Do we want to give our children the message that everything must always be perfect? Singing is fun and she enjoys it. I like the fact that they're both very normal.

nettyhetty · 26/05/2017 10:04

I love Show Me Show Me. That was what my son and I watched every morning... Sniff, he's off to school now, I'll have to watch it on my own Grin

TheFirstMrsDV · 26/05/2017 13:28

Excellent thalia Grin

Loopytiles · 26/05/2017 13:30

I can still sing a nice hedgehog song from the show, used to sing it with DD.

QueenArseClangers · 26/05/2017 13:44

Bloody love Show Me Show Me.
It reminds me of coming home from dropping DD off at playgroup and sitting down with a brew and baby DS to watch it.
Cosy as fuck Grin

NorthumbrianGirl · 26/05/2017 13:56

Show Me, Show Me is the best! YA totally U!

ScarlettFreestone · 26/05/2017 13:59

YABU Show me Show me is great. Reminds me of Play School from my own childhood.

You aren't really the demographic.

ShatnersBassoon · 26/05/2017 13:59

YABVU. It's an excellent programme. It's fairly traditional with simple themes and features, and lots of repetition. That's why it's so good.

glitterglitters · 26/05/2017 14:00

Love show me show me. They look at each other sometimes and you know they're blatantly having a laugh between takes. Plus the imagination and counting in the show is awesome. My dd could count (granted it was mimicking) to ten and back down again by 20 months watching it.

The creepy animals that come out when someone wants a show me creep me right out though.

And Chris Jarvis used to be a kids presenter when I was a kid so it makes me feel like I'm not that old yet haha x

bookwormnerd · 26/05/2017 15:03

My kids never had a blind bit of interest in it. For my little boy its all about Bing which is fine as I think its a sweet show. Both are a fan of andys dinosaur adventures. If I put show me show me on my little boy just waunders off to play elsewhere. Its hilarious from adult watching it, I wonder if their mates take the mick

user1487175389 · 27/05/2017 15:10

Yes, he was the anorak on CBBC wasn't he, glitter? See I'm not old either - although Chris clearly has a painting in his attic.

glitterglitters · 27/05/2017 15:13

@user1487175389 yep and he was in the broom cupboard too 🙊

That's a reference to my age if there ever was one hehe

Tazerface · 27/05/2017 15:33

You're not supposed to watch it with them! You're supposed to leave them in the living room while you drink tea wine and inhale biscuits in the kitchen while Mumsnetting Grin

I do agree though - how is Chris still so young?

Orangepear · 27/05/2017 16:01

I love it! Love Chris and Pui, the singing, the sets. And Groovy Moves! My favourite episodes are Marshmallow Go and Satsuma Zoom:)
