To take my baby to the walk in centre

Me and my baby (6 months old) were out enjoying the sunshine today. He was topped up with sun cream, kept in the shade and wore a hat. But ever since we got home one of his eyes has seemed red and swollen. In the last hour it's started running as well. I think he might have somehow sunburnt his eye (is this even possible?)
There was around 10 minutes were I held him in my arms looking for his hat that DS (4) had thrown into some trees.

We have a GP appointment tomorrow anyway for his eczema but I think I should take him to out of hours with his eye now. DH making me doubt myself though- calling me precious and ridiculous. Any advice?

I've just remembered this happening with me in the past, with various suncreams.

I used baby banz sunglasses with DS to help prevent this.

Flash burn to the cornea Confused

has your baby been welding? Hmm

harderandharder2breathe · 25/05/2017 22:22

You haven't failed him because you have PND and you haven't blinded him or burned his eyes Flowers

Most likely something (pollen or suncream) has got in his eye and irritated it. The running is the eye trying to get rid of irritants and clean itself. If he's fine in himself and it's not hideously swollen then you should be fine to leave it overnight and run it past gp in the morning at your existing appointment.

Your mother sounds charming.

Sounds like suncream in the eye like PP said. DH in his bloody thirties has managed to get some in his eye this morning after doing DD's, it settled down mid afternoon.

becotide · 25/05/2017 23:01

Piriton and a cool damp flannel. Your mother needs a slap! All sorts of things go wrong with babies, the babies who get social servicesinvolved because of sunburn are the ones who never had suncream in the first place and have been sat out until they are red raw, not because they got a bit of suncream in their eye!

hellomoon · 25/05/2017 23:21

Your mother sounds horrendous... Her comments about PND are disgusting. pkease try very hard to let her negative opinions wash over you

Oh. And another vote for sun cream. Happens to my DC.

Flowerbunty · 25/05/2017 23:26

This always happens my ds. But it's due to the Sun cream on his face mixing with sweat and irritating his eyes.
His skin is very funny about Sun cream though, even the sensitive stuff brings him out in rashes.

My advice would be to clean with cooled boiled water

Crunchymum · 25/05/2017 23:29

Your mum is a bit of a cunt isn't she?

Hope you and baby are getting some kip and all is OK x

Sunscreen in eye. It's running to clean it out. Give baby a shower or bath with no soap or shampoo and rinse head and face plenty with clean water

OP.

My kids have chronic hayfever as do I. As in not your usual sniffles stuff but loads of drugs to even begin to function as a human being kind of thing.

I was kind of hoping the youngest would escape from it, but he hasn't. When he was a baby his eyes would swell alarmingly.

As for your mother telling you that you are unfit because you have PND is just crap really. A properly unfit mother wouldn't be worrying about her children and taking them to the doctors with eczema, they would just ignore them.

As for child services, they would probably raise an eyebrow or 2 at a really badly sunburnt baby, but one that's been in the sun for 10 mins won't sunburn that badly.

WomblingThree · 26/05/2017 00:08

Do you have any breastmilk? That's good for sore eyes.

NameChanger4000 · 26/05/2017 00:11

I used to think she was just a tad overdramatic but yeah she does seem to take some pleasure in upsetting me. Particularly over my own failures as a parent.
Baby's eye already looking less bloodshot.
