What would a goal weight be for dd?

Posting for traffic. Dd is 16 and 5'2. She is quite overweight. She is committed to losing weight and being healthier (starting tomorrow). I have little experience helping teenagers with weight loss and was wondering 1) if anyone has been through this and has any tips for me and 2) what a good goal weight would look like for a 5'2 16 year old girl?

Also, I know eating disorders are prevalent with young people so I will be keeping a close eye on dd and making sure she is being healthy. This is 100% her decision and she just wants me to support her.

Parent of ED teenager here - please no target weights, calorie counts, low fat this and that, diet versions. Also, don't get too obsessed the other way with exercise - some ED use that as their purging method. The problems come from obsessive focus and thinking about numbers and targets.

Go for more food cooked from scratch (it then will have less sugar in it but also be healthier all round) and more general activity - what about Pokemon Go where the focus isn't even on health at all, and walking to the shop instead of hopping in the car (where practical), bike riding, going for a swim etc etc. Movement as mood/life enhancing, so going for a walk to clear your head after revising, stopping to smell the flowers, gaze at the sunset etc etc.

And it's true not every dieter gets an ED, but it would be a shame to find out the hard way that your child is one of the ones that does! Also not everyone gets an ED but there are an awful lot of people with disordered eating from weird diets and misunderstood use of poor dieting advice. And sad to say even medical professionals sometimes get it wrong. So the much vaunted 2000 calories a day that so many teenagers focus on is actually the requirement for an adult woman working in a sedentary job. It's actually not enough for a still growing, pubescent girl, who walks around school all day, does PE twice a week and goes out and about seeing friends etc.

8 stone sounds a bit light for someone who has weight problems imo. I'm just under 5ft 3 and for my height my weight is supposed to be between 8 st 1 and 10 st 1.

Losing weight always boils down to CICO - calories in vs calories out.

Some people find it useful to consciously track their calories, e.g. Weight Watchers or apps like MyFitnessPal. But this isn't for everyone.

Other people restrict their caloric intake less consciously, e.g. smaller portion sizes, skipping a meal here and there, snacking on fruit instead of crisps.
