to think that nobody puts biscuits on a plate just for yourself?

Just seen 3 adverts where someone sits down to a cup of coffee and a biscuit, with a plate of about 8 biscuits. Does anyone do that in real life?!

Surely either you take a couple from the packet or you take the whole packet?! Who is going to frig around dirtying a plate and possibly taking more/less that you are going to want?

I should say that I am non biscuit eater, but I have never seen anyone put biscuits out like this!

Hmmm. I think you're partially right. Hob nobs for tea-dunking? Never shall they mar a plate.

Savory biscuits for the plonking chunks carefully arranging delicate slices of cheese upon, always a plate- separate to the cheese plate.

I have no idea why.

38cody · 25/05/2017 00:19

I would always put them on a plate - crumbs!
And its more enjoyable, kind of part of the ritual and if you want 2 or 3 over the course of the evening then where do you put them?
I wouldn't want the packet sat on the coffee table and wouldn't want the biscuits on the bare table, of course you need a plate.

WiltingTulip · 25/05/2017 00:37

I use a plate. I think it's prob like portion controlling myself but if I make biscuits and just eat one without a plate I'll usually sit at the table. (Strict upbringing?)
I'll give my dcs theirs on a shared plate at the table. My dh eats them plateless on the couch.
It doesn't seem right written down...

Katedotness1963 · 25/05/2017 00:38

No plate here. I stick a couple of biscuits on a paper napkin to catch the crumbs.

hellokittymania · 25/05/2017 00:44

I put mine on the plate, I don't want crumbs everywhere.

Grilledaubergines · 25/05/2017 00:47

Biscuits on a plate, crisps in a dish.

I find it easier to be aware of what I'm eating and my food intake by doing it this way).

Freyanna · 25/05/2017 00:47

I always use a plate.

Rockhopper81 · 25/05/2017 00:58

2 or 3 over the course of an evening?? 2 or 3 in one go is the norm in my family...Blush

But no, no plate. I hate washing up with a loathing that is unnatural, so I'll do anything to avoid adding to it.

BARB060609 · 25/05/2017 01:15

I do this, only because 2 isn't enough and if I take the whole packet I eat the whole packet x

NonStopDisco · 25/05/2017 01:17

Ooh, I reckon you could do a matrix of how likely it is you need a plate

(for avoidance of doubt, a biscuit in this instance is a small, handheld, baked sweet snack)

So crumbly to non-crumbly

Jaffa cake > Jammy dodger > gingernut >digestive > chocolate hobnob

And then stickiness

Digestive > ginger nut > jammy dodger > chocolate hobnob > Jaffa cake

So if you were only having a couple of ginger nuts you'd probably be fine without a plate unless you were particularly house proud, a portion of choc hobnob requires a plate to avoid crumbs and melting the chocolate on your hand.

If only one biscuit is required you a)have good portion control, and b) don't need a plate

This is how you overthink stuff and ruin a thread, isn't it?

PyongyangKipperbang · 25/05/2017 02:25

Not for me NonStop, I love a good overthink!

In fact I am overthinking to the point of wondering whether there is a correlation between Tea must be made in a pot v Teabag in a cup (all kinds of wrong!) and Plate v No plate :o

For the record...

I make tea in a pot and dont put biscuits on a plate!

OP posts:
NonStopDisco · 25/05/2017 02:37

Maybe there is a correlation- I make tea in the mug, with a teabag (despite having a considerable collection of teapots and proper cups and saucers), and I plate my biscuits.
But I have tea very infrequently , and I only really have biscuits at work (where I use a napkin to rest my biscuits)
I am a dipper though as well, I think I worry that the wet end of my biscuit will get germy if I put on my desk...

PyongyangKipperbang · 25/05/2017 03:18

Overthinking further......

If tea is made in the pot and drunk from a cup and saucer then a plate isnt needed for the biscuits as the saucer does the job. So that would indeed correlate with tea made in the cup and a plate for biccies!

I use a plate or I just keep eating them! I put say three on the plate, then go and sit down.

Same with crisps...SOME in a bowl. If I take the pack I eat the lot!

Snog · 25/05/2017 03:54

I would always use a plate even just for me

mrbob · 25/05/2017 05:29

Really want some biscuits now. And definitely straight out the packet. No point in wasting a nice clean plate

Crispsheets · 25/05/2017 05:57

That's what dishwashers are for

This thread reminds me of a former neighbour of mine.
She once invited me into her home for a coffee. She asked me if I would like a biscuit and when I said yes, she removed one from a packet of plain digestives and handed it to me before replacing the packet in the cupboard.
Apart from saying thank you, words failed me.

acquiescence · 25/05/2017 12:39

Yes to a plate, otherwise there would be crumbs everywhere to vacuum up.

Faithless · 25/05/2017 12:56

My mum does. Always puts biscuits on a plate, whether just for her or for visitors, always has done. And choc ices and Magnums, she puts those on plates too, in case bits of chocolate slide off onto the carpet.

BeautyQueenFromMars · 25/05/2017 13:05

Am I the only person who just uses a piece of kitchen roll instead of a plate? Prevents crumbs on the sofa/table/floor, doesn't need washing up. Can also be used to wipe damp fingers after chocolate from the biscuits has been linked off them.

BeautyQueenFromMars · 25/05/2017 13:06

*Licked not linked! Bloody autocorrect.

fourquenelles · 25/05/2017 16:19

On a plate if I am eating biscuits out in the garden but otherwise no crumb survives in my house.

NonStopDisco · 25/05/2017 16:25

pyongyang but if you used the saucer the cup wild melt a chocolate biscuit and if you were cursed with clumsiness (like me) you'd end up with chocolate over your hand Shock
