Mayonnaise and supermarket sandwiches!

For those of you who don't eat mayonnaise, what have you found a part from duck, beef Burrito wraps and tuna? Or have you just given up already and gone for the salads? Grin

Does Marks and Spencer have some secrets but I haven't found yet? Waitrose and Tesco have a very limited selection of mayonnaise and egg free sandwiches.

M&S used to, and may still do an egg and salad cream sandwich.

londonrach · 24/05/2017 19:45

Yanbu!!!! When pregnant i struggled to find a sandwich i coukd eat and i hate mayo. Why supermarkets...why. My tiny marks didnt have a simgle sandwich without mayo.

TheNaze73 · 24/05/2017 19:47

Mayo makes me retch. Waitrose do a few

hellokittymania · 24/05/2017 19:48

Londonrach shop bought mayo is fine to eat when pregnant because it doesn't contain raw egg
Or is thee another reason? Sorry if so but thought you might not know !

Busybusybust · 24/05/2017 19:49

Why bother? Factory made super market sandwiches are the work of the devil! Utterly disgusting!

bibbitybobbityyhat · 24/05/2017 19:50

You don't need to avoid the type of mayo in supermarket sandwiches when pregnant.

I'm not keen on too much mayo, and I'd never buy a chicken sandwich from a supermarket. But most do a plain ham and mustard. Cheese ploughmans rarely has mayo.

TatianaLarina · 24/05/2017 19:50

Pret's breadless sandwiches have no mayo.

I don't like bread personally.

RusholmeRuffian · 24/05/2017 19:51

Mayo is the devil's jizz. Boots do a just cheese sandwich. Boring it may be but it's jizz-free.

harderandharder2breathe · 24/05/2017 19:51

Boots do a ham and Philadelphia cheese one that's nice

I feel your pain

Notso · 24/05/2017 19:52

Taboo lady Grin

I don't eat pre packed sandwiches generally and certainly no meat ones but if nothing else is available M&S Wensleydale and Carrot chutney is ok.

Badbadbunny · 24/05/2017 19:56

Why supermarkets...why.

Because they're made in huge quantities in factories, using frozen/dried ingredients that have lost all their natural moisture and taste. The mayonnaise is needed to liven it up and make it more palatable to eat. You really, really wouldn't want to eat them dry. I've worked in sandwich factories - the ingredients are far, far from fresh and often imported from Eastern Europe or the Far East - particularly bags of frozen chicken strips.

Badbadbunny · 24/05/2017 19:58

Mayo is also imported in huge drums that look more like oil drums!

GloriaGilbert · 24/05/2017 20:00

I hate mayo and stick with smoked salmon and cream cheese.

hellokittymania · 24/05/2017 20:00

A sandwich without bread? Do they replace it with something else or is it just the contents of the would-be sandwich?

Try being someone who dislikes margarine in sandwiches. Complete no-hoper for most prewrap sarnies.

TatianaLarina · 24/05/2017 20:16

It's just the contents - my fav is crayfish and avocado.

hellokittymania · 24/05/2017 20:18

Brexit, I don't even give a second glance at the mayo sandwiches, I didn't realize they had margarine in them as well. And yes, I can imagine how hard finding something would be.

HappyAxolotl · 24/05/2017 20:20

Yes RusholmeRuffian you and I know the truth! Mayo is indeed the Jizz of Satan!

expatinscotland · 24/05/2017 20:21

I go for the hummus or vegan options.

RhiWrites · 24/05/2017 20:24

I'm a vegetarian. My choices are always: ploughmans, cheese, roasted vegetables, egg mayonnaise. Meanwhile the meat eaters get avocado and spinach nestled in with their meat.

For the person who asked what the AIBU is, it's AIBU to want a nice sandwich? In her case sans mayo - in mine a little bit more exciting.

PS roasted vegetable sandwiches are slimy and rank.

MrsD79 · 24/05/2017 20:25

Would you not prepare your own lunch? Hygiene? Cost? Taste?

hellokittymania · 24/05/2017 20:33

79, it doesn't have to be at lunchtime. Sometimes you're out and about, and need a bite quickly,. I don't always remember to pack fruit or crackers before I go out.

I think the devil's jizz and the taboo lady might find they hit it off quite well...
Grin

hellokittymania · 24/05/2017 20:52

Sabbatical, I won't mention what dictation does to Ho Chi Minh city. But the two could be perfect there.

It's very rude and I actually cried laughing.
