Aloha - I have never heard students complain about old people. In fact I am under the impression that they rarely meet them! They probably have no idea how hard it was in the war - I know I don't and I am a good 10 years older than most of them.
They do feel bitter that they do not have a hope of the lifestyles that their parents and grandparents enjoy unless their family is wealthy enough to subsidise them.
It is not just students, I know someone who runs a grocery store and complains that the young workers there are totally unmotivated because they do not think there is any way they can improve their circumstances and are probably better off on benefits.
My original point was that there will probably be more intergenerational conflict in times to come and don't be surprised if people who are paying through the nose for a room in a house share, and unable to afford space for a family, are not terribly sympathetic to pensioners who e.g. complain they might have to downgrade because of council tax.
A lot of the old bashing I have seen on this forum (and never taken part in) comes down to older people refusing to accept that even those of us with what are considered to be good jobs, cannot necessarily afford to be SAHMs, a home with a garden etc. Old people being critical of the "choices" made where there is often no real choice at all.
