AIBU?

To wonder if the choice of names is ill judged?

A very close friend of ours has just had a baby and whilst they have two very lovely first names, the initials spell a well known contraction of two very rude words, along the lines of Fiona Ursula Smith (FU Smith)or Bethany Jane Jones (BJ Jones) but even ruder!

A mutual friend was aghast and thought it will make the child the subject of teasing and was all set to raise it with our friend tactfully, but the baby has already registered with the unfortunate combo of initials.

I'm a bit on the fence, when told the first names, the rude initials were the first things that leapt into my head, but I guess if the kid is embarrassed by it, they can simply avoid using their middle name, but the mutual friend is adamant they'll have the piss ripped out of them at school, citing someone in their year at school whose initials were W.C. Taylor and they have been known by all and sundry as Shithouse Taylor for the best part of 30 years.

So you think this newly named infant will run into trouble in later life?

I went to uni with someone called Benjamin Jones - he used to call himself BJ and eventually his nickname became The Big Beej lol

MF is a non thing though, wouldn't have occurred to me ever hearing those initials that it couldn't mean motherfucker!

My DP didn't want to give our DD "BJ" initials. He is a BJ and got ribbed so dint want that for her.

I'd not associate FU or MF with rude words though. I like to use the full versions Grin

No one will even notice I don't think! And I don't wish this to sound awful but there wil always be bullies and they will target people for anything. Too clever, too stupid, too fat, too thin etc etc.

I know its bad timing with the manchester attacks. Im sorry for the 22, my heart truly breaks for them!

Now my DS3 is 1.5 yo. I had severe PND where I tried to take my own life. I had good professional help and im all better.

Now I have 3 sons, I suffered with PND with all. With the 3rd I told DH to get the snip, im still waiting!!

I find myself fantasising about non descript people I absolutely do not find attractive. AIBU to ask him for the snip? I gave birth to 6.13, 10.05, 9.10. I wont get steralised, my body has changed dramatically. AIBU

I'm genuinely surprised that so many people haven't heard it used it real life!? You guys should spend a day with me and my group of friends... It's an affectionate greeting to us!! Although, we shortened it to Mofo now we all have kids. And I'm affectionately known as "BT" (bitch tits). I hope it's done with affection.

I did have to reconsider the name I wanted to give DD though as it would have been ARS and it was too close to arse for my liking.

I knew of a Jenny Taylor once, that was unfortunate and always made me inwardly snigger but MF no, don't get the problem.

I think I'm understanding for the first time why Benny Hill and the Carry On films got made and consumed in this culture. Honestly.

I just remembered I used to work with someone called Mary-Frances, and she always got called MF. I don't think anyone ever thought twice about it.

My eldest's initials spell SCAT. Obviously we were aware of it but nobody else noticed until he was an older teen and one of his mates spotted it. He got called Scat Man for less than a week. It's not a big deal.

I loved Samuel for a name when DS2 was born and badgered DH to acquiesce. He refused when he realised DS2's initials would have spelled STD. On reflection he's probably right. But hardly anyone would have known or realised.

I have the initials FM. It was a problem when I lived somewhere where it stood for F### Me as in FM shoes but when I mentioned it to a group of friends recently they'd never heard of that. My dd was going to have the initials SEKS but luckily we realised and changed it!

what is BJ?

It's the shame of being even subliminally linked to Boris Johnson, of course.

I'm not sure I believe all the names in kungfu's list but I hope the poster DixieNormous has seen it.Grin

My lg's first name begins with an F. My last name begins with a T. Hubs suggested that her middle names should be Alice Rebecca. F.A.R.T. I said no. Given what a windy baby she is, maybe I was wrong.

My daughter is BS. No one has ever noticed. I realised when we named her, but we liked her first name too much to worry about it.

Journalists commonly use m/f to signify More Follows. That was back in the day when copy was typed on sheets of paper.
Never thought of it as rude...

my colleague is RS - people always put an a at the front and e at the end - he ACTUALLY is a complete arse but goes to show people will make initials fit anything.

My initials are FEK. People only really notice when I point it out for a laugh. Kids at school got way more mileage out of my first name than the initials, I don't think I used my middle name at school at all.

When you get to adulthood nobody points it out because it's juvenile and my name is quite nice written in full I think! Don't worry op
