Is it just me, or does anybody else think that it's in very bad taste? I just can't get my head around it.

8000 guests travelling from all over the UK
a massiv catering and security operation already well underway

I enjoyed the one I went to but it looked exhausting for the Royals to me
only smarmy Prince Andrew was being ignored by guests.

Garden parties carried on when the IRA were bombing central London.
Why would they stop now

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 23/05/2017 18:43

Prince Andrew came to our town a few years ago and some of my colleagues were threatening to moon him from an upstairs office window Grin

user147. I could do with some clarification of this:

"It is not the fault of these type of people that people allowed to live in the UK want to kill and maim others."

What "type of people" do you mean? Confused.

I would imagine that there are attendees at the Garden party today who have also "been allowed to live in the UK".

There are plenty of people born in the UK who have killed and maimed others.

hellokittymania · 23/05/2017 18:46

I'm glad those of you who went or who have been really enjoyed yourselves. :)

So glad they didn't cancel. If they did, these Islamic terrorists would have won.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 23/05/2017 18:48

Love the PA smile OP....

Did you lose someone in the tragedy - genuine question if you have been awake all night and feeling unable to go out

KERALA1 · 23/05/2017 18:48

I'm no royalist but imagine the garden party full of grannies who have done good works many who probably travelled miles to get there and looked forward to it for months. Why should they miss out because of the actions of an evil nutter. It's giving terroists what they want if cancelled can you imagine the glee.

hellokittymania · 23/05/2017 19:02

Livia, no, thank goodness. I know people who went, but they're OK.

I have been in a very scary situation before though, not terrorism, but it has always left its mark. Things happen rarely, but when they happen to you, it does change you. At least it did with me.

KurriKurri · 23/05/2017 19:03

AsI said before I am not a royalist, but it isn't a party full of Grannies, it is to honour people who have done good work for the community or contributed to society in some way. It's not a bunch of old ladies having a tea party.
My Dad was invited to one, he was a physicist, it was for an important scientific contribution. He chose not to go because he wasn't a royalist either. But we can be anti royalist without making up ridiculous events that they supposedly host.

melj1213 · 23/05/2017 19:11

So is the world supposed to stop? All organised events must be cancelled? The worst thing for those people who attack is for their actions to have little effect on normal people. The more we "keep calm and carry on" the more we frustrate their plans to cause chaos and disturbance.

I have lots of friends in Manchester (I live an hour or so away from the city) One of them was at the concert with her 10 year old last night ... they were unhurt in the attack but my friend kept all her kids off school today, because they were upset and had a bad night's sleep. Other kids in her DDs class were at school like normal and school continued like any other Tuesday, the only difference being a school assembly first thing - because there were a few kids who were at the concert they wanted to reassure the other kids that they were all fine and unhurt and just weren't in school because they were upset/in shock, not because anything had happened to them. Her DH is a GP who works in a practice in the city centre, he still went to work today because whilst he wanted to stay off with his family, he had patients and other people who needed his care and he wanted to try and keep things as "normal" as possible for his kids.

Highalert · 23/05/2017 19:15

The world has stopped for some people.

MrsMachin · 23/05/2017 19:17

I love how quick everyone is to jump down the OP's throat and have a go on a day when we should all be united in grief. None of us know if she had friends, family or acquaintances caught up in last night's terrible events or not.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 23/05/2017 19:18

Yes it has stopped for some people. So let's allow them to process their grief and shock and not try to outdo each other on how much we care

PurpleDaisies · 23/05/2017 19:18

No one is saying that yesterday's events weren't awful. Life does have to go on though.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 23/05/2017 19:19

MrsMachin I asked her and she said she didn't

Highalert · 23/05/2017 19:20

Let's not try and outdo each other with the keep calm and carry on shite either.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 23/05/2017 19:23

Why shouldn't we keep calm and carry on if we are able?

Highalert · 23/05/2017 19:24

It was a sickening attack and people should be allowed to express their shock, grief, outrage without being belittled for it.

Strangeswelling · 23/05/2017 19:26

The OP acknowledged that she was wrong almost immediately. Why are some of you still sniping?

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 23/05/2017 19:26

And by the same token, people shouldn't be expected to fall apart if they don't feel that way. Everyone processes stuff differently

Nofunkingworriesmate · 23/05/2017 19:30

keep calm and carry on
Fucking defiance

Highalert · 23/05/2017 19:31

I fell apart this morning because my grandson was at a AG concert a few days ago. The what ifs made me feel sick.

But I'll just keep calm and hope Queenie enjoyed her day.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 23/05/2017 19:32

It's not her fault - perhaps your anger could be better directed at those cunts who caused this

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 23/05/2017 19:33

That was harsh - I apologise

But everything stopping helps nobody
