Is it just me, or does anybody else think that it's in very bad taste? I just can't get my head around it.

Op I'm interested to know what plans you've cancelled today?
I'm guess it's none. But thousands of people who've travelled specially should be turned away....right?🙄🙄🙄

Highalert · 23/05/2017 17:43

Nothing would stop a Royal Jolly.

hellokittymania · 23/05/2017 17:45

2014, I know things like this are rare, but it has really scared me.

OP posts:
elephantscansing · 23/05/2017 17:45

What everyone else said. They held a minute's silence.

Highalert · 23/05/2017 17:49

They held a minutes silence then got stuck into the fizz and cucumber sarnies.

2014newme · 23/05/2017 17:49

So what plans have you cancelled op?

2014newme · 23/05/2017 17:49

There is only tea at garden parties no fizz.

Highalert · 23/05/2017 17:50

The OP is not in the public eye not does she represent the country.

2014newme · 23/05/2017 17:52

The thousands of guests are predominantly not in the public eye either. But they should be turned away? The party isn't of benefit to the royals it's a days work for them. It's a treat for the attendees not the hosts.

Fluffypinkpyjamas · 23/05/2017 17:52

Did you think the Queen just woke up this morning, thought "it's a nice day let's have a party"?

This.

I do not believe that you didn't have the common sense to realise the event would have been organised way in advance OP Hmm

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 23/05/2017 17:53

the world doesn't stop, nor should it.

hellokittymania · 23/05/2017 17:53

Haven't done anything today.

I couldn't sleep till 8 o'clock this morning.

OP posts:
ExplodedCloud · 23/05/2017 17:54

I suspect the Queen would see it as her role to carry on regardless.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 23/05/2017 17:56

Most people got on with their working day OP, some of them may have been saddened but unless they had friends/family affected I guess they had to get on with it

hellokittymania · 23/05/2017 17:56

Thank you for the people who explained. And anyway, I will go out tomorrow. I will try and be brave. :)

OP posts:
scaryteacher · 23/05/2017 17:57

Some people I know of who are going today have travelled from the Scillies to attend and made all sorts of complex arrangements. Difficult for the Palace to contact them all really.

BeepBeepMOVE · 23/05/2017 17:58

Even if it was a family garden party why should they cancel it? Should we all stay in and lock our doors in fear of the shitheads responsible? No we should carry on with our lives. It would be more disrespectful to the dead to not live everyday to the fullest surely?

shinynewusername · 23/05/2017 17:58

I don't imagine the queen actually enjoys having to make small talk to a load of peasants the public while they stamp on her begonias.

mateysmum · 23/05/2017 17:58

Are there really people in the UK who think Buck House Garden parties are family affairs?? Really!

Keep Calm and Carry On. Don't let the bastards win.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 23/05/2017 17:58

OP did you have someone affected by it?

Mummyoflittledragon · 23/05/2017 17:58

Glad that's straightened out. I'm baffled though: Why would anyone assume the royal family would deem necessary to announce the family is having a party in the grounds of Buckingham Palace? Grin

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 23/05/2017 17:58

So would You rather disappoint people who had served their country and are probably desperately looking forward to the day

It's not a 'jolly'

Have you cancelled your working day OP ?

KurriKurri · 23/05/2017 18:00

I'm very far from being a royalist, but as others have said these things cannot be cancelled at a moments notice, and they held a minutes silence.

As for then tucking into the 'fizz and cucumber sarnies', what should they have done, cleared away all the food and drink and said 'no refreshments as a sign of respect'? - that's bonkers. Obviously if they'd hunted down and killed a swan and chucked hunks of meat into the crowd shouting 'tally ho' that would be inappropriate. But a cucumber sandwich and a cup of tea is OK I'd say.

PurpleDaisies · 23/05/2017 18:00

hellokitty presumably you don't work?

While what happened was absolutely awful, peolld still expect schools, shops, hospitals etc etc to be open.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 23/05/2017 18:01

I think some people get into competitive grief whenever something like this happens - there's a fine line between empathy and ghoulishness.
