Do you know your neighbours?

Just that really. If so, how well do you know them? Aibu to prefer to keep some distance and choose not to go further than that? I know it sounds weird but I believe is more about self defence and my real trusting issues with people in general.

We know most of our neighbours. People is the street have BBQs, Xmas drinks, birthday parties & a lot of the kids are similar ages & play on the street or in & out of each other's houses. We aren't in each other's pockets & can go days/weeks not seeing people so you still have space. Our neighbours have our house keys, if we forget to put out our bins someone notices & does it & everyone takes in parcels. There is no drama or fights.

I lived in London for 20 years. Same flat same neighbours. I knew them to say hello to, we would take parcels for each other that's about it. Been living in small town for a month, l know all my neighbour's, they tell me thier life stories. Is,quite nice but have taken to checking coast is clear before l go to shop. Sometimes l miss people ignoring me.

Yes - in fact there is a WhatsApp group with all residents of this close. Pings quite a bit. We are by far the youngest though.

Live in an amazingly friendly place. Know most of our neighbours. Have regular hikes in the country with a group of them followed by pub lunch, drinks at Christmas and summer BBQ's, cinema outings and community activities. No gossip or backbiting chat - just great conversations about whatever is going on in people's lives.

Never lived in a place like this before - always had good relationship with next door neighbours before, but never beyond over the fence chat and looking after property while on holiday.

Unfortunately, yes.

I live in a cul-de-sac with 33 houses, closed by a gate. 70% of my neighbours are from Japanese heritage, very quiet, well mannered and ready to help.

We look after each other, keep an eye on our children when playing outside, always help when necessary, the majority share their sets of keys for emergencies or to keep our homes safe if we leave for a long time.

But there is no endless chats or visits to each other homes, even the children only play together outside. We are not close friends, just good neighbours.

Yes. We have keys to their place and they to ours.
