warning booooring. laundry related.

have visitors to stay the weekend, one of them is my mum.

she just had a strop because she doesn't want to sleep in bedding that hasn't been boil washed.

I only wash bedding hot if there is a reason (d&v, worms, athletes foot...)

aibu to book her into a hotel?

I book wash bed linen (well, this machine only does 90) and 60 Deg towels, but that's a force of habit. I wouldn't consider asking whether someone else did to their bedsheets tbh!

Lolly49 · 19/05/2017 19:29

Just get some zflora give a quick spray and you did it at 60 but with disinfectant and if she is still not happy let her sod off.
Bet there are not many Hotels who boil wash beddding!

DayMoth · 19/05/2017 19:31

Does it smell funny or damp or something?

I usually wash guest bedding on 60 on a long cycle, so it stays fresh in the linen chest between uses. I wouldn't boil wash though as it would ruin it!

Blossomdeary · 19/05/2017 19:34

Tell her to bring her own sleeping bag.

namechange20050 · 19/05/2017 19:35

I mistakenly put a sheet on a boil wash the other day and it shrunk it. So beware the boil wash!

RedBugMug · 19/05/2017 19:42

the weird thing is, she boil washes everything, but doesn't change bedding between guests if someone has 'only' slept in it for a week or so.

now THAT beats not washing hot in the boak department.

HazelBite · 19/05/2017 19:44

Op please explain to your Dm that launderette tumble dryers are full of germs!!

PyongyangKipperbang · 19/05/2017 19:45

Id be pissed off, what on earth does she think you have that she can catch from a non boil washed sheet?!

I'd let her take them to the laundrette although if anything happens to them, she will probably blame you for the quality of your linen!

YouWhatMate · 19/05/2017 19:46

I've never even heard of boil washing. I would tell her I washed them in the same machine that I wash all clothes, towels, sheets, and everything I ever wash ever, and that if that's not acceptable for her, she is welcome to bring her own sheets or to take these ones to the laundrette and get them done on a special wash.

RedBugMug · 19/05/2017 19:50

thinking of going to diy store to buy some paper sheets

OP posts:
loopyloulabelle · 19/05/2017 19:56

Yabu!
I boil wash my bed clothes once a week on a Saturday and put them straight back on once they have been steam ironed. My favourite moment of the entire week is getting into bed on a Saturday night after my shower! Pure bliss!
A 40 or a 60 degree wash just doesn't cut it.. doesn't feel as clean!

ErrolTheDragon · 19/05/2017 19:59

Ah, humour the bad bat her... boil wash the sheets... then invent your own arbitrary illogical rule which everyone in the house must adhere to. This would require the collusion of the rest of your family of course.

Mummyoflittledragon · 19/05/2017 20:00

If she leaves guest sheets on that have "only" been used for a week or so for the next guest, how long does she leave her sheets on for? Months? If this is the case it's hardly surprising they need boil washing.

ErrolTheDragon · 19/05/2017 20:00

Mad not bad, obv

stuntcamel · 19/05/2017 20:00

How did the subject even crop up?

dontcallmethatyoucunt · 19/05/2017 20:03

Not another fucking thread giving the super washers chance to air their anal ways

polite conversation in the car on the way home from airport...

dontcallmethatyoucunt Grin Not good enough. Right thinking people would burn the bedlinen after each use and go for new.

My usual wash temp is 40 - my machine doesn't go any lower. Towels get done at 60. I've only ever used the 90 setting when DH had norovirus.

YouWhatMate · 19/05/2017 20:06

I would tell her I boil washed them before my last guest stayed, and they only used them for a week, so it should be fine.

yuck

ScoozMeLuv · 19/05/2017 20:07

Imagine the face on her of you said to her what Mummyof littledragon posted.

WhereYouLeftIt · 19/05/2017 20:08

"the weird thing is, she boil washes everything, but doesn't change bedding between guests if someone has 'only' slept in it for a week or so."

BlackSwan · 19/05/2017 20:14

Tell her you boil washed it & put it through the mangle. Then you sprinkled it with DDT.

RedBugMug · 19/05/2017 20:16

buying new cheap and scratchy bedding at the supermarket wouldn't -do- either. because of all the chemicals have to admit I agree with that

OP posts:
RedBugMug · 19/05/2017 20:17

hmm. ddt. would roundup do?

OP posts:
Crumbs1 · 19/05/2017 20:18

Yep, boil, or very hot, wash to kill off the invisible nasties. Line dry I feel possible. Hot iron.
