GOP will be trying to hit the brakes as hard as they can though:

Trying to jog Mueller's ear via Twitter? Mueller is also a lawyer himself - amidst a veritable gaggle of lawyers. And an ex-Washington insider who knows the score well. I guess we'll have to await the outcome. Smile

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 20/05/2017 08:20

To give him credit though (not sure if this sort of thing has become so normalised that I'm giving him credit for this), he has also said this with regards to the report that was physically moved for just asking questions:

My apologies for going right off topic here, I know this should be in the Brexit threads but I can't bring myself to read them as my gruntle gets even more dissed about May than it does about Trump.
I am a dual citizen and have been living abroad for too long to be able to have a vote at all in the UK, but am allowed to vote in Switzerland from wherever I happen to be resident. I've just voted online in a referendum on whether to accept a new law on Energy, where I received, well in advance of the vote, a package which not only contained my voting card, but a booklet explaining of what the law consisted, and what the expected results of it being passed would be, what the various political parties' stances on it are, the pros and cons represented equally and accurately, and what the government's own stance and recommendation is. Just comparing that with the ridiculous simplicity and botched job that the Brexit referendum was has left me in despair.
Having heard that Trump has just landed in Riyadh, I'm betting I'm presently the nearest person to him geographically, on this thread! am tempted to get on a plane to go and throw a bag of oranges at him.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 20/05/2017 08:21

This sort of thing being GOP's acquiescence on increasingly authoritarian events.

cozietoesie · 20/05/2017 08:21

My apologies. I am reliably informed that I should have put an 'expense' of lawyers as the collective noun. Grin

cozietoesie · 20/05/2017 08:23

Good for Grassley on the 'manhandling' issue.

Golondrina · 20/05/2017 08:34

Placemarking bigly.

cozietoesie · 20/05/2017 08:36

Although, to be fair, I seem to recall that Iowa isn't the strongest GOP state around. One of the American posters had best comment on that one. Smile

Just watched POTUS arrive in SA. Melania looking the part but it was so interesting to study the body language between the two of them. I would love to see some footage of Obama arriving with Michelle in a similar country.

Because DT just had absolutely nothing to do with his wife. He didn't look at her as he slowly walked down the aircraft steps, he - as usual - strode on ahead, he never looked round for her, he didn't acknowledge her presence in any way, shape or form, not even when he entered the building. It could've been a bodyguard with him for all anyone would know. She was an absolute spare part at the back the whole time. I appreciate he is POTUS and has to be at the front but there was not even a glance at her, she was invisible. That marriage is in big big trouble, that's for sure.

Now must dig out some Obama footage of similar scenarios...

But Brexit is being handled in such a thoughtful, nuanced way dumdedum

todgerthedodger · 20/05/2017 08:44

Poor Melania. Well at least Trump got protocol right by treating his wife as a second class citizen in a country where women are second class citizens. She looked utterly miserable. Blink twice FLOTUS.

Dumdedumdedum · 20/05/2017 08:48

Oh, please do share the similar footage, Roussette!
Pain. Yes, you are so right. (irony smiley inserted here)

Elliott Lusztig @ezlusztig
29 Jan 2015. For the record, neither Melania nor Ivanka is wearing a head scarf today.

@realDonaldTrump
Many people are saying it was wonderful that Mrs. Obama refused to wear a scarf in Saudi Arabia, but they were insulted. We have enuf enemies

Roussette · 20/05/2017 09:01

Dum found this and even the tiny snippet of them getting off the plan in Saudi shows them walking together. Standing together. Smiling together. Such a contrast to DT who appeared to have nothing to do with his wife.

And then of course there was a huge criticism of Michelle not wearing a headscarf. Trump tweeted about it saying it was an insult to Saudi and making enemies. Fast forward to today.... yeah yeah...

SanFranBear · 20/05/2017 09:02

You beat me to it, Todger.. I know she made her choice and even procreated with him, but I genuinely feel very sorry for Melania.

Roussette · 20/05/2017 09:02

Pain well done for finding that tweet!

Roussette · 20/05/2017 09:04

SanFran sometimes I do feel sorry for her. But then I've seen footage of her being interviewed and backing him to the hilt and I think why why why, you've sold your soul. She looks so miserable most of the time, not surprising.

Roussette · 20/05/2017 09:06

Does anyone know much on this £100bn arms deal that Kushner is negotiating with the Saudis? I've read a couple of tweets that are filled with horror but I don't know much about it

I wonder if Melania sticks with him not just because of the money/security but also because he could take away her son? Her son seems to be her priority in her life.

Rumour has it that there is panic in the Pence camp because Flynn has turned on Pence and landed him in the shit as well. Mentioned by a few major news people, but not expanded on yet.

I see PainintheEar found that tweat, I knew I'd seen it somewhere. Blinking hypocrite (the least of his crimes probably, but funny nonetheless!)
