God this is moving fast! Checking in, thanks for yet another new thread. BrewThe blatant lies, corruption and manipulation are quite staggering....Shock down to that hug 45 forced on Comey in front of everybody...Comey said he was "disgusted" and if you watch the video closely (sorry can't link, but think nyt) you can see his smile disappear as trump pulls him from handshake into hug. To give a certain impression, for the benefit of the onlooker, sort of abuse in plain sight...ugh very unpleasant indeed.

There was an interesting further link in that piece you linked to, Ginger. It might be worth putting it up separately.

Trump - latest polls

cozietoesie · 20/05/2017 00:44

I guess it remains to be seen whether Mueller will ask for a waiver from Rosenstein. If so...........

If not, what happens is anyone's guess. Mueller is a lawyer himself, I think?

cozietoesie · 20/05/2017 00:59

A quote from a Newsweek piece. (Forgive that I can't link to it.)

"And all that may not be the end of it: Trump owns businesses in 10 states, the District of Columbia and 25 countries around the world, according to reports. They used to be called conlicts of interest. Now they might be called targets of opportunity."

I appreciated that last sentence.

Love the thread title Lionheart - and great to hear Comey will be testifying in public. Will this be when Trump is away? Wouldn't that be beautiful?

I'm hearing that the "significant person of interest" who is "close to the President" is... wait for it... JARED KUSHNER.

An awful lot will be happening when he's away. (Mind you, there might be things happening where he actually is - who can tell?)

cozietoesie · 20/05/2017 01:32

I imagine that there will be a lot of those 'left-behind' staffers who will be brushing their teeth tonight and, looking into their bathroom mirror, practising saying ' We have no comment. The President is overseas'.

This 'feels' like Flynn being shoved under the bus?

Comey will testify in a public hearing after Memorial Day (29 May) say Senate Intelligence Committee:

AcrossthePond55 · 20/05/2017 03:44

Sounds like it to me. I hope it pisses him off enough to spill his guts.

I also notice that they're building a scenario of Pence being 'out of the loop' and 'kept in the dark' about the goings on in the Administration. Paving his way for the Oval Office in the event of impeachment?

CaveMum · 20/05/2017 03:51

Multiple agencies now reporting that Kushner is the "person of interest" in the Russia probe. WH has been deafeningly quiet over the reports with no denials issued.

How will Trump cope without his home comforts?

"This is an enormously complex undertaking, there are so many things that will be challenging for Trump it's headspinning," said Daniel Benjamin, who travelled extensively on Air Force One as Bill Clinton's foreign policy speechwriter.

"The first thing is simply the pace. If you look at how Trump spends his days in the White House, it seems to be an enormous amount of time watching TV and not much else. But these trips are punishing, he will be meeting an enormous number of people and it requires tremendous energy and focus - not his strong suit."

The president's team has reportedly attempted to build downtime into his schedule wherever possible, and instructed foreign delegations that he prefers short presentations with lots of visual aids.

His short attention span is said to have already affected preparation for the trip. Aides threaded the president's own name through the paragraphs of a two-page briefing memo in order to hold the president's interest, the New York Times reported on Friday.

Is Mike Pence distancing himself from Trump?

If the Trump presidency is truly in trouble, and this week's appointment of Special Counsel Robert Mueller is a dark storm cloud on the horizon, this could be evidence that the vice-president is contemplating a future after Mr Trump. He's certainly not abandoning ship, but he's familiarising himself with where the lifeboats are stored.

I wonder if there ever is a scenario where a President claims immunity (or persecution) while out of the country, along with certain key advisors? Wouldn't that be interesting? #saturdaythoughts

cozietoesie · 20/05/2017 05:29

Pence did have a surprisingly 'proprietorial' look on his face as he stood just outside the WH, waving off 45 etc in Marine One.

If he goes, he could count on most of the GOP going with him.

CanadianJohn · 20/05/2017 06:22

Thanks for the new thread lion, great title!

Dumdedumdedum · 20/05/2017 08:03

GREAT thread title, thank you, lionheart.
Pain - that gibberish emanating from the President-elect (at the time) of the United States should have given huge pause to anyone interested in the future of their country, rather than party interest. It calls for a face-palm, although at the time, I think I actually banged my head on the table..
My own contribution to silliness is: Nobody expects the Orange Inquietude - with apologies to Monty Python.
