To use the disabled loo when I'm with my son?

RestingBitch · 19/05/2017 17:06

My sons 9 months and obviously still in his pushchair. The majority of the time it's just me and him when I go into town/visit places. When I need the loo I get an attack of conscious, I normally use the disabled loo so I can bring him in with me.
Can't use a regular loo as I can't get him in the cubicle in his chair. Don't want to take him out of his pushchair and plonk him on the floor as the floors are manky and he will eat whatever is on the floor. He'll also probably try and crawl under the gap and interrupt someone else. Don't really like the idea of leaving him in his pushchair whilst I nip in the cubicle, so providing there isn't someone waiting for the disabled loos, AIBU to use them? I'm usually in and out and so far I've never encountered anyone waiting for one, or the impatient rattle of the door. If I am being unreasonable, short of pissing myself what's the options?

Not a troll, and don't work for any newspapers :).

For the selfish and the ignorant evidently.

Newtothis11 · 21/05/2017 12:13

use the accessible loo its safer. you wouldn't leave your child unattended anywhere else so why would you when using the toilet.

Dawndonnaagain · 21/05/2017 12:16

I've done this absolutely loads of times. It's absolutely fine.
I'm so pleased you consider it to be fine for you, whilst my dd is waiting outside and wetting herself, or I'm shitting myself. Of course that's fine too, isn't it. Doesn't affect you.

Sirzy · 21/05/2017 12:16

So don't men use disabled toilets? Don't get that point at all. Nor is it a valid reason to use a disabled toilet anywY

Dawndonnaagain · 21/05/2017 12:17

Newtothis
You don't need to leave your child unattended when using a lavatory. There are lots of ways round this that have been pointed out on this thread. In the meantime that means I can use the one fucking loo designated for my dd's use.

Dawndonnaagain how many of these threads have we both been on over the years?
\I often wonder what the kids turn out like, do they turn in to the adults who refuse to fold buggies on busses and assume the world revolves around them?
do any of the "fuck its there I will use it" posters ever go on to live in the sn world and realise how hard it is?

rosy71 · 21/05/2017 12:23

I was once told off by a toilet attendant for being in the ladies & that I should use the disabled toilet with small children. At work, we only have one toilet which has a disabled sign on the door. We were told that just means it's accessible for disabled people; anyone else can use it too.

Spikeyball · 21/05/2017 12:29

Disabled loos are unisex so using them to avoid piss on the floor is pointless. I do see them occasionally within male or female facilities but everyone I know treats them as unisex wherever they are placed.

So me, me, me to not leave my children outside and unsupervised Hmm.

Dawn, those ways around it options that have been given again and again are not options for everyone.

ilovesooty · 21/05/2017 13:02

And people with disabilities have precious few options if people use their designated spaces.

Sirzy · 21/05/2017 13:05

The only reason that they aren't options to people is because they refuse to think of anyone but themselves.

The fact so many parents manage perfectly fine without using the disabled toilets shows it's possible with just a tiny amount of planning

Blazingpups · 21/05/2017 13:13

No I can assure you I don't just think of myself, that doesn't change the fact that on occasion I have no choice but to use the accessible or disabled toilets which I will continue to do until I no longer need to use them.

Like I said on a previous post the hypocrisy on this thread would be surprising were it not for the fact that these threads always go the same way.

ilovesooty · 21/05/2017 13:15

So you think your needs trump those of people with disabilities then? Ok... Hmm

Sirzy · 21/05/2017 13:16

Blazing - are you disabled? If not you don't need to use it. You choose to and that choice as shown on this thread could really have a detrimental effect on someone who really does need that. It is selfish.

Blazingpups · 21/05/2017 13:26

I'll use my own judgement on wether I need to use it or not, not yours sirzy.

Sooty, it's not about my needs trumping anyone's, the simple fact is in some public toilets I will need to use the disabled facilities.

If anyone else came along needing to use them with or without a visible disability I would wait for them to go first, then when in there I am as quick as I possibly can be. That's all I can do to minimise my impact on somebody else short of wetting myself.

If that makes me selfish in your opinion so be it, you're entitled to your opinion as I am to mine.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 21/05/2017 13:30

Oh here we are again
Goady twats are out in force
But hey they need "educating"
Horseshit
So much about mumsnet being about making parents lives easier
Hmm

Spikeyball · 21/05/2017 13:30

Blazing you tried to compare possible misuse of a nice extra for parents (p and c space) with misuse of something essential for those with disabilities (accessible toilet). The two are not comparable.

Blazingpups · 21/05/2017 13:32

Oh and as I mentioned on my earlier post it's quite pointed who those posters with an agenda are...they're on the p&c threads totally contracdicting themselves.

JustAnotherSilentOldNumber · 21/05/2017 13:33

So much about mumsnet being about making parents lives easier

HAHAHAHAHAAAA
They wish.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 21/05/2017 13:33

Errr no they aren't.

Disabled toilets are for the disabled.

P&C spaces are not a legal right and can be used with those with a blue badge.

HTH

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 21/05/2017 13:35

So much about mumsnet being about making parents lives easier

Making life easier doesn't mean you can do whatever you want.

Blazingpups · 21/05/2017 13:36

Piglet yes I did point that out in my post, it's about 2 pages back. HTH

Sirzy · 21/05/2017 13:36

Comparing facilities essential for disabled people to p and c spaces just about highlights the level of ignorance doesn't it.
