Reading the post about people being unable to whistle - that makes me happy as whistling really gives me a pain in the head. Not being able to skip now makes me unhappy. We all used to love it. Who can still do it now?

Do you mean skipping with a rope, or skip-de-skip-de-skipping down the road?

KeepServingTheDrinks · 18/05/2017 23:54

I can, but the independently moving stomach (out of time with the rest of my body) means I don't as I'm too shamed by how fat I am!

Ontheboardwalk · 19/05/2017 00:04

Salad skip-de-skipping down the road. I liked skipping with a rope but it's not the same type of enjoyment as skip-de-skipping down the road or absolutely anywhere you want to

Have you forgotten? I skip fairly regularly with small children, maybe this has kept it in my memory?

Ontheboardwalk · 19/05/2017 00:25

It just feels strange now. Maybe I should skip everywhere I go to make it feel normal again?

No, you can skip you just choose not to!

Embrace your want to skip and anyone who looks strangely at you can get stuffed

LedaP · 19/05/2017 06:32

I skip all the time. I even skipped down the office this week.

Just practice and get it back. I bloody love skipping

MirandaWest · 19/05/2017 06:34

DH and I sometimes skip down the road together. Generally when none of our dc are around (unless we really want to embarrass them Grin)

HalfPintPixie · 19/05/2017 06:35

I like to have a wee skip now and then, it's quite a joyful way of travelling! You just need to practice a bit, that's all Grin

venusandmars · 19/05/2017 06:58

Skipping is brilliant. When my teenage dc was depressed he swore that skipping was the best anti-depressant in the world, said you couldn't skip and feel sad simultaneously.

Ecclesiastes · 19/05/2017 07:02

I think we should make skipping a thing for grown ups.

I bet it burns more calories than jogging.

lalaloopyhead · 19/05/2017 07:02

I sometimes enjoy a little skip when I have picked up my youngest from school on a Friday, especially if it is a sunny day. There seems no better way to express the joy of it being the start of the weekend!

Gizlotsmum · 19/05/2017 07:05

Totally skip here . With or with out kids... get slightly fewer stares with kids..

McDougal · 19/05/2017 07:08

Skipped just yesterday after not doing it for a long time and it was brilliant!

I was with 4 year old DD which made it feel a little less embarrassing. I must get back into the habit as it made me feel great.

Scribblegirl · 19/05/2017 07:09

This is the most heartwarming thread! I need to get out of bed in a minute, I might skip to the bathroom Grin

Nquartz · 19/05/2017 07:11

I love skipping with DD and so does my mum. It feels like being a kid again!

LizTaylorsFabulousTurban · 19/05/2017 07:12

OK so I'm the only person who thought this was about a prolapse then?

OculusReparo · 19/05/2017 07:27

Walking vs Skipping

OculusReparo · 19/05/2017 07:34

I often skip even if people give me weird looks I tell myself that they're just jealous

Besides, the more of us who skip in public, then there might be a chance it becomes as normal as walking.

One can only live in hope Easter Smile

gunnergirl · 19/05/2017 07:37

totally agree I have a skip now and then really brings memories of skipping down the road with my mum !

Ontheboardwalk · 19/05/2017 10:03

Thanks all for the messages. I'm going to promise to attempt to skip to the shops later. I might have a practice in the house first. Think I'll lock the cat up for its own protection.

HalfPintPixie · 19/05/2017 10:25

OculusReparo that's the first thing that came to my mind too! GrinGrin

Ontheboardwalk · 20/05/2017 01:55

Ok so I went to the shop the long way round through the park and attempted to skip and terrified a man and his dog.

Decided to try again on way home from pub. Asked taxi driver to drop me top of the road. I tried and failed but have now been reminded of the other wonderful childhood memory- gravel grazed knees.

Me and skipping are officially done!

toffeeboffin · 20/05/2017 02:31

As long as I can still gambol I'm OK.

OvO · 20/05/2017 02:45

I didn't learn to skip until I was a teenager!

I've been disabled since birth and it affects one of my legs and I just could not work it out. I was actually horribly embarrassed by my lack of ability. Blush

But this thread just reminded me of the utter JOY I had when I finally figured it out. It's a real stand out happy moment! Grin

I can't even tie my own shoelaces now but thank you for reminding me of that happy moment!
