To think that filling the kettle isn't "a thing"?

At least one person agrees with me so I thought I'd see if more did!

DH keeps complaining "Only I fill the kettle up!"

Hmm

He says "I fill it up and then later, I go to use it and it's all empty again!"

I'd not really reacted to these complaints though I had thought "Wtf?"

Then a mate of his heard him and said, "what are you talling about? People just fill it and boil it as they use it! You put in the amount you need and boil it!"

DH seemed to be under the impression that the kettle should be consistently full!

AIBU to think DH is wrong and his friend and I are right?

I'm glad someone else raised the thing about tea rounds at work - I was totally confused by all this individual cup filling! Have never worked anywhere where anyone making didn't offer to get one for anyone else.
At home we fill as and when (but always make a pot of tea so usually require a full kettle). My parents would agree with your DH though as they have an aga with a kettle which sits on it, so it has to be filled and sitting warm on the side at all times or it takes a lifetime to boil.

Oh
My
God......

I always pre-boil the kettle so I rarely have a freshly boiled cup of tea. Is my head going to fall off?

I've just asked a friend and she agreed with everyone here. (I asked in case it was UK thing Confused Grin )

I always keep the kettle full here, but that's only because the water people are constantly turning it off to replace pipes.

We have filter coffee but tea is made individually as much quicker to stick a tea bag in a mug for yourself and then add a bit of milk, plus I hate other people making me tea as they usually make it too weak. We do have work to be getting on with after all. If making a cafetiere of coffee I'll see if other people want it as filter machine only on once a day to know how much coffee to put in.

Get a boiling water tap

and a fucking life come to think of it...

WankingMonkey · 18/05/2017 18:42

The kettle causes so many petty arguments in this house Grin DH seems to have something against filling it. He will sit and say 'does anyone want a cuppa' then if anyone says yes (or even if they don't then he will want one himself) he will ask me to fill the kettle and put it on?! Its bizarre and I have never got an actual reason for it. I used to just do it but its gone on for so long its become one of those things that really grates and makes me a bit snappy back Blush

jarhead123 · 18/05/2017 19:14

I tend to fill it and boil it ready for when I want it!

BlueSunGreenMoon · 18/05/2017 19:17

I fill it as I need it and try to boil no more than I need. I rarely use it though. Don't like tea and I have a coffee machine.

HeddaGarbled · 18/05/2017 21:28

Ah god, the tea rounds at work drive me spare. I'm in the middle of concentrating and we get "Who wants a cup of tea? A, do you want a cup of tea? B, do you want a cup of tea? Etc etc. Or do you want a coffee? A, now you like yours strong don't you? B, how many sugars do you want? Etc etc. Here you are A, is it strong enough for you? I'll let you put your own milk in B, because I know you don't like much etc, etc. For the love of god, STFU and let me get on with my work.

indigox · 18/05/2017 21:33

I fill the kettle up at night ready for the morning

Why?!

Trills · 18/05/2017 21:34

I had a housemate once who was convinced that leaving a hot kettle standing empty was bad for it, and claimed someone had killed their kettle by leaving it empty.

DeadGood · 18/05/2017 21:36

OP your husband is confusing kettles with water filter jugs.

He is WRONG!

BarbaraofSeville · 18/05/2017 22:09

OP have you neglected to mention that your kettle has wifi? That's the only reason I can think of as to why you'd routinely leave water in them.

Last time I bought a new kettle, I was shocked to discover that some of them have wifi so you can switch them on with an app on your phone and I couldn't understand the point, because you'd have to go to the kettle to put water in it Confused.

Iggi999 · 18/05/2017 23:34

I fill it for dh before I go to work in the morning. Blush
