If you were buying a supermarket meal deal and you picked up and extra drink which of the 2 drinks would go into the deal, the more expensive or cheaper one?
Just had the cashier make me feel stupid

Perhaps that was just the policy where I worked though
I see what you mean.

It sounds like you worked at a place that like to show goodwill to its customers.

WatchingFromTheWings · 12/05/2017 21:55

My understanding from working in retail is that they have to sell it to you at the lowest price advertised, but they can refuse the sale.

They don't have to honour the lower price so long as they advise you it's incorrect at the time of purchase then you can make an informed decision. I've been in retail for years and would usually automatically sell at the lower price then deal with any incorrect pricing. Unless it's obvious tags have been switched, then I won't.

Wando1986 · 12/05/2017 21:57

Cheapest item in the deal is always the discounted one.

mum11970 · 12/05/2017 22:06

The cashier was stupid. You would obviously put the more expensive one in with the meal deal. If the meal deal was £3 and you paid 85p seperately the total is £3.85; if you paid for it all together you would have paid £5.50. The silly bint obviously can't add.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 12/05/2017 23:02

mum11970 Dont be so fucking rude.

MidniteScribbler · 12/05/2017 23:20

I think it depends on the terms and conditions of the deal. If it was "includes any drink" then you would have a case, but I bet if you read the fine print I bet you'll find something like 'Smoothies not included' or something similar.

It's a bit like the deal including a 375ml coke, and you wanting the 750ml one included instead. That's not the offer they are making.

Sammyislost · 14/05/2017 13:45

Cheaper one is usually free. We ended up paying an extra £5 for our meal deals because of this! They know what they're doing. Personally I'd report her for bad customer service!

ChuckyHereToPlay · 14/05/2017 13:53

I sometimes get a meal deal and extra sandwich from Tesco. The more expensive sandwich is always included in the deal. I would have thought it be the same for drinks.

HappyFlappy · 14/05/2017 14:01

If you put the meal deal items through with the most expensive drink, then that is the one that should be counted as in the deal, though it isn't necessarily the item that will come off. e.g. the crisps may be cheaper (I'm assuming it's something like sammich, crisps, drink in the deal) . The ill should already have accounted for the meal deal, so your next drink should go through as a separate item.

If it's something like "3 for 2" then it generally specifies that you will get the cheapest item free.

If this happens again, ask for the cheaper stuff to be put through separately and tell her it's for someone else.

OhahIlostmybra · 14/05/2017 14:02

I think you've misunderstood midnite. They were both included. I really only drink water but if I'm getting a meal deal I tend you get one of the expensive smoothies for DH to have another day as I can just get water for free at work Wink

Floggingmolly · 14/05/2017 14:07

Of course it would have "affected the price" if she'd charged the smoothie seperately, at full price instead of the coffee.
She was being dim. I can forgive people being dim, but I bloody hate people being arsey when they're actually in the wrong because they've completely failed to grasp something.

kali110 · 14/05/2017 14:07

Persian sorry what I meant was it can't be sold at a higher price than that advertised, so they either honour the lower price or can refuse the sale. Perhaps that was just the policy where I worked though.
No the shop does not have to sell it at that price, they can simply refuse the sale.

unlucky83 · 14/05/2017 14:47

Are you sure both drinks weren't included??? Otherwise just move on - she was wrong and you were right and it didn't cost you any extra...
As I understand it the tills are often set up to calculate the deal automatically.
A while ago I was in a pub chain offering a two for one or something... and I got two cheap meals (light bite things) and two normal ones and paid for the most expensive. So a few months later in the same situation I ordered the two most expensive ones together and then separately the two cheaper ones but there was some issue then because it was the same table number...the cashier was sympathetic and it was sorted but it wasn't that straight forward and they were complaining about the till...
