Boss telling me my mouth smells

SugarnetMum · 10/05/2017 20:33

I brush my teeth every morning before work obviously, shower etc. My boss has told me twice in the last two weeks while pointing at his mouth that there is a smell from my "mouth" no one else has ever told me this including my boyfriend who I'm with every minute of the day! Or mother etc
I've now resorted to being paranoid constantly smelling my breath and bringing chewing gum.. Aibu to think he's just a dickhead? Trying to put me down?

He usually only says it if I'm correcting him on something regarding work....

Although hes pretty straight forward and tells me to tell him if there's ever something on his face or a smell..

:S I feel horrible and smelly even though I'm always clean..

I have literally never heard of westerners smelling cheesy to people from the Middle East and Africa and I have spent a lot of time in both those parts of the world. Could the pp elaborate on this? Sorry to derail thread OP. I really would go to the dentist.

DJBaggySmalls · 11/05/2017 01:05

Its irrelevant if OP actually has bad breath, thats not an appropriate way to deal with it.

avamiah · 11/05/2017 01:18

DJBaggySmalls,
Absolutely my point .
Your employer, no matter what your job is cannot humiliate you in front of your work colleagues.
It's absolutely outrageous.
Can you imagine a Judge telling a barrister in front of other barristers that he/she had bad breath.
Let's be honest they may think it but cannot say it as they would be up in front of a tribunal for Gross misconduct and possible sex/racial discrimination.
So why should OP,s boss think it's ok?
When it's Not.

TheLegendOfBeans · 11/05/2017 08:36

Ask him straight up:

"Are you telling me my breath smells?"

Also; his background should have nothing to do with it. There's acting professionally and there's not. Sounds like he's the latter.

Treats all his female employees the same By calling them a foreign name. All of them... Such as "seniorita" he does the same to the customers, it's like he's trying to be different although it comes as undermining and condescending. I hear "seniorita" about 20 times a day towards me while working with him. Only wants women in the front serving the customers, says women can't do the big jobs in the back, even though his wife is the qualified best chef in the place.. He's really very friendly outside work although maybe its fake.. Him and dp get on like a house on fire !
