Okay, maybe I am being a tiny bit unreasonable, but if else also saw this (or caught up on iPlayer), I cringed quite a bit when TM said that 'there's 'boy jobs' and 'girl jobs'. She said this just after her husband made a joke about taking the bins out, when they were asked about what decisions they make as a couple.

First of all, I understand that it's meant to be a bit of a tongue-in-cheek comment and not totally serious, especially as she's PM and as her husband, by all appearances, appears to be a really valuable source of support for her. I have to say I do like TM and her husband as a couple, from what we see of them, and I like the way that they do seem to come across as a very supportive and united partnership.

But it was just the comment that I didn't like - I found it a bit twee and unnecessary. What does everyone else think?

Sorry but "it's how their generation talks" is absolutely no excuse whatsoever. In all honesty, I wouldn't want a prime minister to even joke about things that way because this is 2018 you know Hmm when she said that, she managed to pull off a joke at the expense of something rather unsettling and imagine if Trump had said that. Not that I am his supporter. But this is a woman saying that so that's fine specially as she belongs to that generation you know. Hmm. Sorry but I don't buy that.
So now we know his "strong and stable" her home life is, how about we talk some genuine policies where her Party has miserably failed us for years now?

squishysquirmy · 10/05/2017 14:33

"I thought it was sweet and they came across as a nice middle class, middle aged couple. A bit awkward at times but that's perfectly understandable."

I honestly wouldn't care if they spent their Sunday afternoons tying each other up in a sex dungeon. I do very much care about funding the NHS, education, the axing of centralised council funding, Brexit and many other issues which TM avoids being properly questioned on.

As for Corbyn being on his third wife, well, I don't think there is any indication he cheated or something. His personal life or of anyone, is none of my business. I want to hear the policies and discussion on them in detail. I don't want to be fed a "normal" and "strong and stable" image of the harmonious household of a prime minister. So she basically wasted time on tv. Of millions of people.

Valentine2 · 10/05/2017 14:36

If anything, that's so unfair that she managed to blabber on about not and girl jobs and her husband "she is a great cook" or something along the lines. she refuses to face any one in live tv debate and that's what I want to see, not Mr and Mrs so-normal-that-we-better-run-the-country.

ProudConservative · 10/05/2017 14:42

@Valentine2

Do you really think that Corbyn would do well against May in a dabate? He doesn't do well at PMQs, doesn't do well with the press and I think would do terribly in a live debate.

I suspect that his party do too or they'd be making a big deal out of her not doing one.

proud
I am not his fan and I have asked too many PMQs by now to figure out who will come out fine in a live debate. Trust me on this one: when you repeat, sneer and jeer your opponent on live tv, people see straight through you. So May will have to answer direct questions without the hackling of the truly immature MPs of her party from behind her. That's her job:answering question to people. This is my country. I want her to do everything to convince me she is the one. Why is she not doing it BUT has the time to come and do misogynistic banter in front of the whole nation? You can go on and on about "she doesn't have to do debates as the election is won by Tories already" but then what's the fucking point of coming on tv? What was she embarrassed about? Sorry. That's way too much hypocrisy there.

Valentine2 · 10/05/2017 14:50

Seen, not asked FFS. Hmm

ProudConservative · 10/05/2017 14:58

Motheroffourdragons

Aren't we all. Understanding our bias and evaluating sources is important. I'm a floating voter but rarely been as sure with my vote as I am this GE.

Valentine

Please don't call what she said 'misogynistic banter'. It devalues the meaning of the word.

I haven't said that she shouldn't do a live debate but I think that Corbyn is aware it isn't in his best interests either.

I don't think she can persuade or convince many voters who shut down debate and will vote tactically for 'anyone but the Tories'.

squirreltrap · 10/05/2017 14:59

I thought they looked like they had never met each other before never mind been married 37 years.

Can't imagine them even holding hands never mind getting down to it.

Contrast with the Obamas is pretty stark - they always looked 'together'

Maybot indeed

Orlantina · 10/05/2017 15:03

I've seen May on PMQs and know exactly what she is like. Avoids the question and misleads.

I hope the 'debate' with the public will show her up for what she is.

Valentine2 · 10/05/2017 15:04

I think that Corbyn is aware it isn't in his best interests either.

In case you didn't notice, it's not you whose opinion matters in this situation. It's Corbyn and May and Farron etc who should be on tv, not you, and Corbyn has said he is ready to do it. What is she afraid of?

ProudConservative · 10/05/2017 15:09

In case you didn't notice, it's not you whose opinion matters in this situation.

Wow, aggressive and annoying aren't you Valentine.

I want her to do everything to convince me she is the one.

She probably has better things to do with her time than persuade you.

Valentine2 · 10/05/2017 15:18

And you just managed to tell me on the other thread that I am not adding substance to conversation. Grin
What were you between 1997 and 2017? UKIP?

hiveofactivity · 10/05/2017 15:45

I almost expected to wake up to headlines of "May sues for libel after photo-shopped One Show hoax".

It was Alan Partridge-esque in its inanity.

ShatnersWig · 10/05/2017 15:59

squoosh said: "How many children from poor families exactly do you think grammar schools benefit?"

Me. I went to a grammar. We were about as poor a family as there was in my primary school. I was 11 in 1985. The same year we had a telephone installed. Our house, rented from a local housing association place, was pretty bloody shitty. All our clothes were from jumble sales. Electricity was 50p in the meter. My parents only had me because they could barely afford to have me, let alone another child. Everyone else went on holidays. Our first family holiday was in 1988 to a holiday camp on the Isle of Wight.

FantasticButtocks · 10/05/2017 16:14

I have no idea why Labour hate them so much when they enable bright children from poor families to have a good education.

But what about the children of poor families who are not bright? What sort of education should they have? Does this government have a plan for them? Or is it just the bright ones who matter?

Flowerwords · 10/05/2017 17:03

I actually liked them, they seemed like just a normal couple of a certain age. Could have been any of my friends parents to be honest. The boy , girl thing was a joke! She is a female PM FGS!
I don't have to like her ideas but can still see they are decent people and a nice couple. Better them than the Blairs or Cameron's. Sorry just don't get the dislike?
Now the politics ??? Not such a fan!
I am actually very against grammar schools what if your child fails the 11+??? Then what? So glad I don't live in a grammar school area and we have amazing schools here and really good resaults without segregation. What on earth is that about?

Jupitar · 10/05/2017 17:14

I have no idea why Labour hate them so much when they enable bright children from poor families to have a good education.

Ah. You've fallen for it then.

How many children from poor families exactly do you think grammar schools benefit?

Exactly, AND are children who can't get into grammar school not entitled to a good education too?

Instead of funding grammar schools, improve all the schools so everyone benefits

twelly · 10/05/2017 21:31

The interview seemed as natural as possible as one on national tv. they may of revered to household jobs in a traditional way - and many people will identify with that, it seems they have a strong relationship and I found that reassuring.
