AIBU to just want my appliances to leave me alone?

I've recently moved from an old house with not so up to date appliances to a new build where everything is brand spanking new. It's nice to have modern appliances that work - but it feels like everything is just constantly beeping at me!

Microwave: beeps for a full minute after it's done.
Washing machine: plays a kind of beepy tune when it's done, and repeats beeping noises until I open the door.
Tumble dryer: beeps when done. Beeps at regular intervals until I intervene.

The dishwasher is my only ally but that's because I tend to put it on in the evening and I can't hear the beeping from the other end of the house! I know it's still beeping at me though.

I'm sure there are more; just can't think of the less annoying ones at the moment.

This is lighthearted, mainly - but honestly sometimes I feel like it's driving me insane! DD is 9 months and has recently learned the power of crying to get what she wants.
Also we have two cats who make noises at me incessantly until I drop what I'm doing and see to their needs. I've got enough going on. AIBU to feel that additional nagging by my household appliances is just a bridge too far?! Angry

I didn't realise when I bought a new car seat that it beeps when the harness is unclicked. Supposedly this is a safety feature so that in the event that your little cherub unbuckles themselves whilst you are driving you will know. It worked fine right up until DS spilt a drink on it...now it beeps constantly. Eagerly awaiting the day the batteries die

hedwig2001 · 10/05/2017 14:44

Not sure if it has already been mentioned, but my Samsung microwave lets you turn off the beep. You press the start and stop buttons at the same time.

TheFlyingFauxPas · 10/05/2017 15:07

I have no beepers in my house. I must have old stuff. I was teaching my ds the other day what the click was on the washing machine :-)

Notthebossofnetflicks · 10/05/2017 15:54

Oh my god I thought I was the only one. It stresses me out so much. I just sit down of an evening and everything starts beeping, demanding my attention.

Sometimes I just feel so harassed!

PavlovianLunge · 10/05/2017 15:58

You lot are all BVU. Your appliances are singing the song of their people and you want to silence them!

Iggity · 10/05/2017 19:17

Thought it was me: kettle, hob, fridge freezer, microwave, tumble dryer and washing machine all beep beep beep! Wading machine is most annoying as it beeps until you open it and microwave does the same.

ShiftyLookingBadger · 10/05/2017 20:25

Ha ha, this is how I feel about my washing machine. It has such a nagging irritating beep that keeps repeating until I turn it off. Drives me mad if I'm trapped under DS feeding.

topcat2014 · 10/05/2017 20:27

I managed to turn off the dishwasher beeps.

I must try and do the washing machine ones..

Mothervulva · 10/05/2017 20:30

This. With knobs on.

We've moved into a new house with intergrated appliances. The microwave beeps FOR A FULL TWO MINUTES. If it finishes when I'm changing a nappy, I can feel my blood pressure rising.
The washing machine goes off too. It's too much.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 10/05/2017 20:35

DH has got a new car that bleeps so much it sounds like a training school for learning Morse code.
Reversing... Bleeepppppp
Bush 3 feet in front of car that is reversing away from it. BLEEEEEP
Seat belt not done up. (yes, I know. I'm reversing, you know I'm reversing cos you're bleeping at me) Blip bleep.
Driving at 31 MPH twenty yards before speed limit increases to 50mph.Belp bleep. Bleep bleep.
Crossing white dotted line driving round parked car. BEEP BEEP BEEP.
Speed camera ahead which will ignore me because I'm doing 29mph to stop the bleeping. B'BEEP B'BEEP

He won't let me mute the fuckers cos they're useful.
My blood pressure is through the roof after 10 miles.

daddyorscience · 10/05/2017 20:42

I only have a beeping washer, microwave and Roomba.. He's full of little tunes. The car will beep for lights left on, indicators, reversing, door open, and "oi, pillock, you got out and left me in drive, with the engine on". Luckily it also disengages the clutch! 😂

Notonthestairs · 10/05/2017 21:09

Yes, yes, yes! I even hate my phone ringing! Honestly I can't bear the bloody pips everytime something completes its task.
After a thread on the same topic I've deprogrammed everything but the bloody microwave which I am planning to replace as soon as i can with one I can silence (or kick in to submission).

HookandSwan · 10/05/2017 21:23

The washing machine in my nanny family house, is touch sensitive...it's in the Kitchen so every time I'm cooking or anything and I lean against it, the bloody thing beeps

WorknameJimEllis · 10/05/2017 21:27

I hate needy appliances

One step away from genuine people personalities imo

lastnightiwenttomanderley · 10/05/2017 21:36

I love how you can spot those with Samsung washing machines on these threads. Quite why we need such a musical ordeal at the end of each wash is beyond me, poor Schubert must be spinning in his grave!

reawakeningambition · 10/05/2017 21:38

Ooh, great thread!

Teatimebear · 10/05/2017 21:43

@Teatimebear your kettle beeps? Dear lord. That's a whole other level of crazy. What kind is it so I can make sure I never buy one? I refuse to be nagged by a kettle!

It's some sort of Bosch.

BUT! Thanks to this thread I googled it, and may take it apart to smother/remove the beeper. It's a good kettle in all other respects. Bit of a curates egg.

missg00se · 10/05/2017 22:31

It seems I am unable to silence my microwave. It's integrated and very new so it looks like I'll have to deal with stuff being warm being treated as an EMERGENCY for the time being. What the beepy fucker fails to understand is that I know the time is up. But I'm also making other food, trying to unstack and restack the dishwasher, being harassed by two very persistent felines who turn up as soon as the fridge opens and demand sustenance RIGHT NOW, and trying to stop DD killing herself on whatever she's found today that I have failed to notice might be a hazard due to possible inadequate parenting on my part Confused Then, more often than not, the washing machine chimes in.

At least my kettle leaves me alone. Wink

@Teatimebear good luck to you! Don't let the kettle win!

I'm loving all these responses. Makes me feel less like I'm going insane for shouting at the microwave several times a day.

Previous posters seem to like the Roomba noises. Been thinking of getting one for a while mainly so the cat can ride about on it. Not sure if I'd be so forgiving of its tunefulness though!

Flopjustwantscoffee · 10/05/2017 22:49

Thenightsky- my doorbells exactly the same! Except I don't have a car so it plays oh my darling clementine (and a variety of other tunes) every time our neighbours shut their door but .NOT when anyone rings our doorbell. I wouldn't mind so much except our neighbours are v minor drug dealers so have people coming to their house at all hours

Flopjustwantscoffee · 10/05/2017 22:51

Oh also I worked at KFC for a while and the beeps machines they have there were one of the many things that made it so delightful Hmm

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 10/05/2017 22:58

I have a robot vacuum cleaner - it's not a roomba, so it doesn't play any tunes at me. Sadly it is fecking useless as a robot cpvacuum too, because it gets caught on the edge of rugs, or under bits of furniture, somyou cant leave it unsupervised, otherwise it just sits there revving its motor and overheating.

It is only of any use if I clear the floor in the kitchen and utility room, and even then it misses the corners.

It is supposed to be able to find its way back to its charging station when the battery is getting low. It can't.

And the cat won't ride it - it is one of my more useless purchases.

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 11/05/2017 07:55

the singing was the only good ting about my roomba - it hated rugs and got stuck under the sofa every single time, so was not very good at actually cleaning. Plus with three DDs with long hair, the brishes got tied up in knots regularly.

Once at the DC have left home, and I move to a flat with hard floors all through, then I'm going to get another one (but only after crawling about on the floor of every sofa shop measuring heights Wink)

missg00se · 12/05/2017 19:06

I'm disappointed to hear that there are cats out there that won't ride Roombas. And suspect my cat might be one of the defective ones...
