I thought this might be enlightening to those not familiar with impeachment under US law.

Right now, as far as I can tell we're at the beginning of step 1. We've got a long, long, long way to go. Here's the timeline for the most recent impeachment trial;
B Clinton timeline (2 years)
2/97 Ken Starr starts his investigations
12/98 Impeached by the house
2/99 Acquitted by the Senate
The Watergate Timeline (15 months, no trial)
5/73 Special Prosecutor named
5/74 Impeachment proceedings begin in the House, Judiciary Cmtte passes articles of impeachment.
8/74 Nixon resigns
If Nixon hadn't resigned I'm sure it would have been a few more months before he was impeached by the Senate and removed from office. So a two year timeline is probably about right. We haven't even had a special prosecutor named yet. Chances are that Trump will finish this term before any formal action will be taken against him as I can't see Trump resigning under any circumstances. But, if nothing else, it should guarantee that there is no second term.
2018 is our only hope.
