Wwyd - phoning maternity ward?

Posting for traffic ..

I'm 38 weeks and 2 days pregnant, have a pre-op assessment at the end of the week plus 38 week check and a csection scheduled a week tomorrow.

Since Saturday I've felt a slight decrease in LOs movements, he wasn't as active at all during the day and then had a spurt at night (I had been cleaning all day followed by a bath at night).

Yesterday they seemed to drop again to the point where I did feel him but no where near what I'd consider normal. I put off phoning because he did move, just not as pronounced or as often.

Last night I went to the toilet and, after wiping, noticed what can only be described as a small bogey type thing on the tissue (greenish in colour) and a little bit on my trousers (I was wearing a thong). Then last night I woke up at 1am and couldn't get back to sleep. I had terrible back ache and again LO wasn't really moving. I then had the urge to go to the bathroom asap and had a bout of diarrhoea and, when I stood up, I noticed a pinky blob in the toilet about a 1p in size. This then progressed to intermittent period type pains, albeit mild, accompanied by a tightening of my belly. They lasted less than a minute, came every 2-4 minutes and stopped altogether after an hour. They were never sore, never picked up pace or intensity. I couldn’t fall back asleep until gone 5am though.

Today I've felt LO move but again it isn't nearly as frequently or as strong. I've had backache all day and some period type cramps but nothing that can be tracked. I've had no more discharge whatsoever.

I read various posts about the ten kicks per hour vs ten kicks per day vs less than normal for you and I really don't know what to do.

I didn't go in to natural labour with my first and I cannot remember feeling anything like this (it was almost 7 years ago now). Do I phone the maternity ward or am I worrying over nothing?

That's good that you could have vaginal delivery if it came to it so no panic if it does turn to established labour. Hopefully you'll have your baby soon!

SunsetGrigio · 08/05/2017 14:36

Good luck OP, sounds like things are starting. Surprised they don't want you in though with a previous emcs and a planned c-section, i've been told i must go in immediately at the first signs of labour for monitoring.

MyPatronusIsAUnicorn · 08/05/2017 14:36

I had Braxton hicks from 20 weeks with my second. Definitely different to actual Labour. Yours sounds much more like.Labour. period pains is exactly how I would describe it.

But if you're having a planned section, surely you shouldn't be allowed to progress in Labour? I wouldn't be happy about that advice.

sailorcherries · 08/05/2017 15:11

Everything has stopped again. The backache is pretty much constant but that may not even be connected.
No pressure, no crampy type pains, no tightenings and little one is still wriggling about.

Someone should invent a pee stick with a clear labour and not labour indicator, much like a pregnancy test.

Omg sailorcherries that's an amazing idea, I'd pee on one every day! FWIW I had a full day of a mixture of burning back pain, contractions, period cramps and stabby pains the other day. Had spent a few days nesting and the whole night before I was up at all hours pacing about. Then the past 2 days - nothing HmmI think this must just be what the end is like Confused

sailorcherries · 08/05/2017 15:37

I definitely think this must be the end. I never had this with DS, went a week over and only went in because of bleeding which then resulted in them inducing me.

I've no idea what actual labour is like or how it starts.

Everyone starts labour in totally different ways.

For me it was very similar to you. The mucus plug going and then not much movement.

The plug looked like a 10p size blob of thick snot on the bathroom floor.

Good luck with whatever happens next for you. I think I'd make sure the hospital bag was ready and start to make snacks incase you do go into labour. You need plenty of energy.

Instasista · 08/05/2017 19:03

My labours also started the same
As yours. Whilst reduced movements needs to be checked out changes in movements are also a symptom of labour starting and very common

WindyWednesday · 09/05/2017 13:02

I guess it was labour? hope all is ok OP.

sailorcherries · 09/05/2017 13:14

Just thought I'd update.

Baby is moving away as normal and has been since yesterday.
Backache is still present.
A few more cramp type pains and pressure between yesterday and today but nothing else.

Baby is still firmly holed up inside me and it's now a countdown to my elcs.

Glad to hear you're ok sailors good luck!

PeaFaceMcgee · 09/05/2017 20:51

V.light green-tinged cervical mucus is normal for some people - if it's not smelly etc.

Happy last few hours / days of pregnancy OP - you'll soon meet your baby :)

butterfly198615 · 09/05/2017 21:02

I'd ring asap , sounds like you have lost your mucus plug so labour will be very soon and if your scheduled or a c section it's best to get up to the maternity ward asap or ring but I would just turn up there and see what they say will check you over. Babies do slow down nearer the time of delivery but you know how much is normal and there's not harm in getting check out. X

MathsFiend · 09/05/2017 21:07

I'd go in- I went in after having green discharge and a mumsnetter told me to go in. It was a sign of meconium, and they kept me in and I had the baby that night. Please go in, they can do tests on you that they can't do over the phone (e.g. Check the level of your ketones, check your cervix). My discharge was just as you described.

MuncheysMummy · 09/05/2017 21:41

Really frightening that despite all the info everywhere including on your notes pack urging you to seek advice from the maternity ward or midwife if you feel REDUCED or different to usual for you movements people still don't go!

Instasista · 09/05/2017 21:41

The OP has been?

Instasista · 09/05/2017 21:42

Sorry just re read- she's not been she's spoken to the midwife and taken their advice. Which is what she should do

MuncheysMummy · 09/05/2017 21:43

Butterfly that's a common misconception they SHOULDNT slow down close to delivery! That's a dangerous old wives tale the midwives and consultant said to me

sailorcherries · 09/05/2017 22:06

Muncheys please rtft.

I phoned, during which time baby picked back up and hasn't slowed down again since.
Mw told me to come in if it happened again, which it hasn't.

Also not in labour.
