Wwyd - phoning maternity ward?

Posting for traffic ..

I'm 38 weeks and 2 days pregnant, have a pre-op assessment at the end of the week plus 38 week check and a csection scheduled a week tomorrow.

Since Saturday I've felt a slight decrease in LOs movements, he wasn't as active at all during the day and then had a spurt at night (I had been cleaning all day followed by a bath at night).

Yesterday they seemed to drop again to the point where I did feel him but no where near what I'd consider normal. I put off phoning because he did move, just not as pronounced or as often.

Last night I went to the toilet and, after wiping, noticed what can only be described as a small bogey type thing on the tissue (greenish in colour) and a little bit on my trousers (I was wearing a thong). Then last night I woke up at 1am and couldn't get back to sleep. I had terrible back ache and again LO wasn't really moving. I then had the urge to go to the bathroom asap and had a bout of diarrhoea and, when I stood up, I noticed a pinky blob in the toilet about a 1p in size. This then progressed to intermittent period type pains, albeit mild, accompanied by a tightening of my belly. They lasted less than a minute, came every 2-4 minutes and stopped altogether after an hour. They were never sore, never picked up pace or intensity. I couldn’t fall back asleep until gone 5am though.

Today I've felt LO move but again it isn't nearly as frequently or as strong. I've had backache all day and some period type cramps but nothing that can be tracked. I've had no more discharge whatsoever.

I read various posts about the ten kicks per hour vs ten kicks per day vs less than normal for you and I really don't know what to do.

I didn't go in to natural labour with my first and I cannot remember feeling anything like this (it was almost 7 years ago now). Do I phone the maternity ward or am I worrying over nothing?

Get checked, it's better to be safe.
Good luck. Hope everything goes well. Flowers

twocockers · 08/05/2017 12:23

Go and get checked!!

BluePeppers · 08/05/2017 12:26

Please fo and get checked. The green discharge would be enough for me to ring the ward ASAP.

Allthebestnamesareused · 08/05/2017 12:26

You are in labour! Good luck. Let us know what you have!

JustMumNowNotMe · 08/05/2017 12:26

I'm glad you are going in, it sounds like you are in early labour and the reduced movements need checking.

AnnieAnoniMouse · 08/05/2017 12:27

Bloody hell. You don't want to bother anyone!? This is your baby you are talking about and maternity ward staff...it's their job. You're not 'bothering' them.

sailorcherries · 08/05/2017 12:28

The green discharge was a one off yesterday followed by the horrendous night and then the aches/pains/diarrhoea/small blob thing.

Keep ringing both maternity assessment unit numbers and they're both busy. He's nudged a little more since then but I'm still not sure.

Mamimawr · 08/05/2017 12:28

Have you phoned? I hope you're on your way in now. This is how my labours started, but the decreased movements need to be checked out anyway.

WowserBowser · 08/05/2017 12:29

I had reduced movements towards the end and was told to come in and be checked over. All was fine. But it was always treated very seriously, and not like i was being a pain.

And it does sound like you are in early labour anyway...

sailorcherries · 08/05/2017 12:30

I'm ringing the numbers back and forth but nothing is connecting. Lines are busy and no queue type system :(

Libitina · 08/05/2017 12:30

Just turn up if you can't get through. Sounds as though you're in early labour, but get checked over just to be on the safe side.

HeyRoly · 08/05/2017 12:31

Keep ringing. Or just go. They'll fit you in somehow.

CottonSock · 08/05/2017 12:31

I had reduced movements and called and was summoned straight in. The midwife told me off for not coming sooner (in night I was alone with toddler). You are not bothering them

fruitlovingmonkey · 08/05/2017 12:32

You're not troubling anyone- it's their job.
You should get checked out with any change in the usual pattern of movements.
It does sound like early labour so take your hospital bag with you.

sailorcherries · 08/05/2017 12:33

I'll give it another few tries and then if I'm not through I'll just head off after I wake OH up.
The achey cramps have returned but more like a consistent mild pain, as if your period is going to come, with the occasional tightening. There seems to be some pressure down below too.

Doublevodkaredbull · 08/05/2017 12:33

Keep calling. It sounds like labour to me. Call until they answer!

Sunshinegirl82 · 08/05/2017 12:33

Call labour triage. It sounds like you may be in early labour anyway. I was checked for reduced movements several times, they told me they'd rather see 100 women who turned out to be fine than miss one problem. This is their job, you aren't bothering them.

SovietKitsch · 08/05/2017 12:34

Go in. Stop trying to call, and get yourself in. They NEVER mind being asked to check reduced movements.

AaoograhaHoa · 08/05/2017 12:34

Another vote for don't wait - google the emergency number for the ante-natal ward? Or just turn up.

They won't mind and would much rather see you now than have you worrying. you are not bothering anyone!!

Instasista · 08/05/2017 12:36

It sounds like you're in early labour. They'll put you on a feral monitor to check the movements but either way get yourself in contact with the hospital sounds like you'll be having baby soon!

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 08/05/2017 12:36

Sounds like a show and early labour.

The green mucus sounds a bit concerning because that might be an infection.

Just ring the unit and ask their advice. It's what they're there for and you either find everything is ok (positive outcome) or they find a problem that needs dealing with.

There really is no reason not to ring.

MadeForThis · 08/05/2017 12:38

The 10 movements thing is outdated. You need to get checked out for any kind of reduced movement.
It might be early labour or it could be that the baby is weak. You need baby's heartbeat checked and a scan to check the placenta is still functioning.
They will not feel like you are wasting their time.
If you can't get through on the phone try your own midwife or just show up at the hospital.
Best wishes x

Dozer · 08/05/2017 12:38

Go in in person.

BadTasteFlump · 08/05/2017 12:43

I would just go in.

I had very similar with one of my PGs. It turned out that DC was in distress. It all turned out fine but it was a bit hairy for a few hours and in retrospect I wish I'd gone in earlier rather than wondering if I should or not for about 24 hours before-hand.

AliceByTheMoon · 08/05/2017 12:43

Just go in.

Sounds like labour to me too!

Goodluck.:)
