To shower during DS swimming lesson?

DramaQueenofHighCs · 08/05/2017 09:49

Just that really. Our boiler has packed up and we can't afford to get it looked at (probably needs replacing) for another couple of weeks or so. We have no heating which is ok in this weather, especially as we have a fab heater, but we also have no hot water so can't use our shower or bath. We are getting by filling bottles from the kettle and having shallow baths and hair washing using a jug but.... I'm desperate for a real shower! DS has swimming lessons on Saturday mornings and the mixed changing rooms have lovely shower cubicles so you can take your swim costume off and have a proper all over shower. WIBU to pop in the shower at the swimming pool while DS(8) is in his lesson or is it unfair as I haven't paid to swim? DH thinks it's fine but I'm a bit anxious.

Should've been fan heater, not fab!

I would totally do it.

cittigirl · 08/05/2017 09:52

Do it

Cakescakescakes · 08/05/2017 09:52

If you are antsy about it then just pay for a swim. Or some places you can just pay to use the showers. I remember doing at a leisure centre while camping a few years ago.

Note3 · 08/05/2017 09:55

Oh my goodness you're a genius! I'd do it in your situation

QueenRefusenik · 08/05/2017 09:58

God, do it! You've paid for DS' lesson, presumably!

Sleepdeprivedredhead · 08/05/2017 09:59

I would!

liz70 · 08/05/2017 09:59

I remember going to the local swimming baths as a child, where you could still pay to have a hot bath, with optional towel and soap hire. feeling ancient

I would have the shower, without any guilt. It's only occasional use, and there will be plenty others who won't use them, so why not?

SewMuchToLearn · 08/05/2017 10:10

Yes, go for it. On the basis that at our pool, entry is included for one adult accompanying the child who has lessons.

tinypop4 · 08/05/2017 10:11

I would definitely jump in the shower under those circumstances! It's only going to be a couple of times isn't it :-)

Kokusai · 08/05/2017 10:12

Just do it.,

Judydreamsofhorses · 08/05/2017 10:13

Our boiler packed in last year and we were four days without hot water. I paid for a swim at the local pool every day, but just used the showers.

blueskyinmarch · 08/05/2017 10:14

I would totally do it. Put on your swimming costume under your clothes before you go and no-one will know you haven’t actually been swimming. it is a genius idea.

arethereanyleftatall · 08/05/2017 10:14

I have absolutely no idea why you wouldn't.

ChasedByBees · 08/05/2017 10:14

Great idea!

CryingShame · 08/05/2017 10:16

Go for it, just put a towel for you in his bag and stay in the changing rooms after h'es gone to swim.

NuffSaidSam · 08/05/2017 10:16

It's fine. As pp said, if it doesn't feel right, just pay for a swim.

Madcats · 08/05/2017 10:19

Anybody who has done some major renovations/home improvements will sympathise with you (and it isn't as if you are planning to do it every day). How would anybody really notice what you were up to?

Huge sympathy here; we had no boiler and family bathroom for 6 months BUT we did have an immersion heater fitted in the hot water tank and were able to shower in one of the bedrooms. Our boiler is being a bit grumpy at the moment and it is a huge relief to know that we can always get hot water. I don't think it was that expensive to get one fitted (it looks like an old fashioned kettle element and I am guessing it is about 50cm long).

rightwhine · 08/05/2017 10:19

Definitely. I remember using our uni pool for free showers when I was a skint student.

RupertsMum2 · 08/05/2017 10:27

We stayed in a two berth caravan for 3 months between houses. We had a 10 month old at the time. I was working night shift and dh was working day shift. We showered anywhere we could find one! Go for it, no one will care.

MumUndone · 08/05/2017 10:27

Do it.

Natsku · 08/05/2017 10:34

Go for it! Our boiler has packed in too and though we can heat water using the wood fired boiler it doesn't work so well plus it heats up the house which isn't nice when the weather is warm so we just take cold showers most of the time.

PovertyPain · 08/05/2017 10:35

with optional towel and soap hire.

Liz70 I hope that wasn't a bar of soap! Just imaging having to pick of all the stray hairs. shudders at the memory of coming from a big family, when there was only one bar of soap in the bathroom 〰😩 Envy

Buck3t · 08/05/2017 10:47

This is what we did when having our bathroom done. Went to our gym for all our showers. No big deal. Done by many. You're going to be there anyway.

chocatoo · 08/05/2017 10:48

I'd do it!! Also I'd drop big hints with friends - you'll be inundated with offers :-)
