Presents to siblings from new baby?

Posting here for traffic.

Just wondered if anyone had any unusual ideas ( or more regular ones that were well received!) of a little present that I could give to my older children from their new brother? There's no jealousy or any bad feelings (they're all very excited) so not trying to win them round, just would like to give them something from him.

Siblings are: DD1-8. DS1-7 and DD2-5.

I'm a little stumped on anything meaningful and would love a little help!

I gave my DD1, then 4yo, a 'grown-up necklace', meaning one on a silver chain with a pretty charm on it (a glittery ladybird). Grown up meant it wasn't a set of beads, either plastic or wooden, which was all she owned at that point. At 8, she still loves it. She got a teddy too!

NapQueen · 07/05/2017 19:40

We didnt go for meaningful, just something we knew dd was coveting (she was 2y10m when ds arrived) - an Elsa doll.

Itd be lovely to do something meaningful for the older ones - maybe take the eldest to choose a Baby Book and her job to fill all the info in? Ds could get a yo-yo and a frisbee with a note saying "for you to teach me when Im big enough". For the 5yo; maybe some new storybooks you and they can read together during feeds?

And my nephew, at about that age, got a watch for his birthday from us. He loved it, again, because he felt grown up wearing it. It was a child's watch, so not a Rolex or anything, but he still felt grown up!

insancerre · 07/05/2017 19:42

Ds got a skateboard from his new sister
He was 7 at the time and he was very happy with his gift

Fibbertigibbet · 07/05/2017 19:44

My mum when my little brother was born bought me my own boy baby- complete with little penis! I absolutely loved that doll and loved getting to join in with looking after my little brother by washing my baby in a washing up bowl at the same time etc.

I don't know if your DC (maybe DD2) would like something like that?

RicottaPancakes · 07/05/2017 19:45

Some nice DVDs for them to watch when you are tired.

DS1 'bought' the baby (DS2) a teddy bear. He had a new brother.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 07/05/2017 19:48

Posted too soon, we bought him a toy doctor's case (largely because that was the gift I received when my little brother was born)

pinkiepie1 · 07/05/2017 19:51

When my sister was born I was 3 and got a doll, who I also called my sisters name, she got weighed and everything lol.
And I always remember getting maltesers and opal fruits when I went hospital to see her.

We are having this conversation now, and my sis suggested a big sis/little sis teddy bear, but I still think its a good idea even something little doesn't have to be expensive.

CatTheMouse · 07/05/2017 19:54

Lots of great ideas!

Thank you!

I'm going to have a hard time deciding now, I had a mental block and couldn't think of anything!

I think my brother got a toy car when I was born, he was 3. DD1 got a happy land plane from her baby sister, but she was only tiny at just less than 18 months. She 'flew' it into the kitchen so we had to get a replacement (and explain it didn't really fly Grin).

coursedarlin · 07/05/2017 20:01

We've ordered a big sister necklace for my dd for when my ds arrives. Someone will be taking her to choose a teddy for the baby while I'm in hospital so she's involved in choosing him something. There's loads of ideas for gifts on eBay I just typed big sister in and there were loads of bits to choose from

RoseGoldProsecco · 07/05/2017 20:02

I got jelly tots from my DB (I was only 2). Older DV got a car and caravan from me.

Is there anything your DC particularly like?

RoseGoldProsecco · 07/05/2017 20:04

Not on the high street might have good ideas, or wicked uncle - nearly all my friends' kids get wicked uncle gifts from me!! Nice t shirts on not on the high street plus lots of other stuff

WinterWonders · 07/05/2017 21:22

We bought our 3yr old DD a vtech camera when our DS was born. She loved taking photos/videos of her newborn brother!

SomewhatIdiosyncratic · 07/05/2017 21:28

DS1 was 2 so baby gave him a Thomas train with his name. It was a nice balance of being a bit special, some longevity and something he could play with immediately. Short term, the train was a bigger hit than the baby, although the train is still played with by both DCs.

(I had a boy doll with a willy too! He was a Fisher Price doll)

CatTheMouse · 08/05/2017 07:29

I really like the story books idea. And the baby book. Thank you nap queen

Because of their ages they've all got dolls, and have put them aside in anticipation of helping bath and change a real baby! Grin

A camera is a good idea too! I think it'll be teddies and maybe a nice watch or necklace too! Thank you all. Smile

We got lego, which was incredibly well received. It sounds like all 3 of yours are at an age where they would love a lego set.

wornoutboots · 08/05/2017 07:57

my son got a big toy truck from his little brother.

it's all about what they are into.

these days my boys would probably get nerf guns.
(my 2 year old daughter would get a dinosaur)

Crumbs1 · 08/05/2017 08:00

Yes something with immediate appeal lego, a little pony thing with long hair, a new baby doll outfit, a drum(mistake!),

Whatsername17 · 08/05/2017 08:13

I gave dd5 a camera and a photo album. It wasn't expensive - £30 from Amazon. But she loved it and took on the 'job' of photographing all of the family with dd2. I've got an album of beautifully blurry pics!

RoseGoldProsecco · 08/05/2017 08:14

Ha, I had a fisher price doll with a willy too.

I called it "lucy" and it wore dresses with all the others. I only realised it had been a boy doll years later Blush

CesareBorgiasUnicornMask · 08/05/2017 08:38

I don't think I got a present when my sister was born but I did get taken to Disneyland for my 3rd birthday three months later because I'd been 'such a good big sister'. I still remember Mickey Mouse singing happy birthday to me! Grin

DS1 is probably going to get a doll from DS2 when he arrives this summer in the hopes he won't decapitate this one but his 3rd birthday is very shortly after my due date so I will make sure DS2 also gets him a decent birthday present - the toot toot fire station is my current plan.

I think something that will hold their attention is a good plan- though love the idea of something meaningful or a bit grown-up for the older ones.

thatorchidmoment · 08/05/2017 08:38

I bought my older two lovely cotton dressing gowns from the white company, with a card 'from' their baby brother. They still wear them loads two years later (I upsized a bit!) and I am planning on getting new dressing gowns for the three of them when this baby arrives in September! It was a useful thing for them and I spent a bit more than I would normally on a kid's dressing gown. They will make good hand-me-downs and have worn and washed well.
