I'm on a quiet train with about 8 other people in the carriage. Some twat is watching some crappy sitcom with canned laughter on his tablet. With no earphones. It's annoying as hell.

A woman has already asked him to turn it down but he said 'read something or learn to concentrate if it bothers you'. Tempted to make some comment about how selfish he is but he's older and bigger than me Sad

What a rude response to the request to turn it down! Is there a member of staff you could complain to?

elephantscansing · 06/05/2017 11:11

Yes, say something! Or else he'll carry on being an entitled bellend.

Sleepdeprivedredhead · 06/05/2017 11:13

Do say something. He's not covering himself in glory there. Others will be on your side.

ZilphasHatpin · 06/05/2017 11:15

Does he not realise he is on the quiet carriage?

originalusernamefail · 06/05/2017 11:18

Join up with other 7 people in the carriage and crowd round him to ask annoying questions about what he's watching. 'Who's that', 'Why are they there' etc. Ask him to turn the screen as you can't see properly, rewind the last part you missed. I give him 5 mins before he'd rather turn it off instead !

DJBaggySmalls · 06/05/2017 11:18

This is one reason why we need a guard on a train. Its not the first time the problem has been posted, I dont think its uncommon.

Sandsnake · 06/05/2017 11:19

Say something now! Totally unacceptable. I wouldn't go in with accusing him of selfishness though - much better to be incredibly polite. Good luck.

ZilphasHatpin · 06/05/2017 11:20

Oh do originals suggestion! Grin

Whisky2014 · 06/05/2017 11:21

Tell him to learn to respect the surroundingsame he is in if he says the same comment again

LadySalmakia · 06/05/2017 11:21

Do you have the front to go "Goodness, that looks good, budge up!" and make him scoot along and then be all "I couldn't quite hear what was going on from 7 rows away, this is much better, what sort of laptop is this, isn't the screen good?" and just witter until he stops.

Also if it's virgin they have headphones in the shop.

Look up the episode online and tell him the ending

CauliflowerSqueeze · 06/05/2017 11:22

He's an arsehole but I would either wait for a guard to help or move away to be honest. If that's his response to the first person, he's unlikely to be polite and helpful with the second person.

troodiedoo · 06/05/2017 11:25

Please say something! I'm seething just reading your post. Ignorant twat.

elevenclips · 06/05/2017 11:32

Don't get into a confrontation with a stranger if you value your personal safety.

PortCheese · 06/05/2017 11:35

Look up the episode online and tell him the ending

Perfect!

DameXanaduBramble · 06/05/2017 11:37

Tweet about it. I guarantee it'll be sorted immediately.

Spadequeen · 06/05/2017 11:37

I love the idea of telling him the ending.

SemiNormal · 06/05/2017 11:38

Don't get into a confrontation with a stranger if you value your personal safety - I kind of agree with this. Is it worth it? Yes it's fucking annoying and I can see why you're pissed off but he clearly doesn't give a shit. He's already been rude to one person who dared question him. Sometimes it's just better to bite your tongue.

slownsteady · 06/05/2017 11:43

I did bite my tongue and wussed out Blush went to the next carriage and just ignored him. When I went back to go to the loo though he'd turned it off and was sitting with his arms folded sulking Grin do you think there was an intervention after I left?!

Not helpful but I used to work with a woman who was a self-styled "bit of a dragon". She told me that one morning she was travelling into work and had to sit next to a 'youth' listening to loud music on his phone without headphones.
She opened up her handbook, got out a photo album, tapped him on the arm and started telling him about every photo in the book, "...there's Beryl, you can see she's squinting because the sun is in her eyes. And next to her is Fred. Dear old Fred..."
After about three photos he said to her, "I'm not interested in your bleedin' photos"
Her reply (and she was very well spoken): "Nor am I interested in your bleedin' music."
Music was turned off. He got off at the next stop.

(Completely wrong thread..d'uh. Sorry)

hmcAsWas · 06/05/2017 11:47

I expect a man asked him to turn it down - and whilst he felt that it was okay to ignore the 'little woman' who complained, he felt he had to respond to the man.....
