I'm on a quiet train with about 8 other people in the carriage. Some twat is watching some crappy sitcom with canned laughter on his tablet. With no earphones. It's annoying as hell.

A woman has already asked him to turn it down but he said 'read something or learn to concentrate if it bothers you'. Tempted to make some comment about how selfish he is but he's older and bigger than me Sad

It's at times like these it's a shame that train windows no longer open. It would be so satisfying to just grab his laptop and launch it out of the window then walk back to your seat and calmly sit down.

LilacSpatula · 06/05/2017 11:51

I'd have started humming or singing. If you sing 'Happy Birthday to me' quietly people tend to move carriage.

ENFJ · 06/05/2017 11:51

Yeh, I bet that's what happened, a man asked him to turn it down.

slownsteady · 06/05/2017 11:51

Actually velvet that pic summed up my mood as I posted Grin

Yes just set fire to the carriage if it happens again.

Love the photo album story Grin

Even if it wasn't a quiet carriage
I think I'd suggest everyone play something aloud on their mobile.

CesareBorgiasUnicornMask · 06/05/2017 12:05

I think some of the other suggestions on the spider thread would also be appropriate. Get out a can of hairspray and turn it on him, then whack him over the head with a shoe. Simple, yet effective.

I had a similar situation recently on the ferry. A guy sitting across from us was watching something very loudly on his phone. I politely told him to turn it down because nobody else in this section wanted to listen to it. He turned it down but not off but that made a difference. The people sitting next to us made a comment about not using headphones and I agreed that the whole point of a personal device is that its personal to you, not everybody else. It was later turned off.

hoddtastic · 06/05/2017 12:16

I had a pal, middle aged, well dressed etc. who used to blast out 'build me up buttercup' whenever confronted by people playing dreadful music on phone speakers.
I know it was childish but it used to make people giggle...

WhatchaMaCalllit · 06/05/2017 12:18

Perhaps he thought you were going off to complain when you were in the toilet, so he didn't want any evidence when you returned with an official, maybe?

Love the photo album story too. Very clever way to have dealt with it

winobaglady · 06/05/2017 12:24

Maybe he's a MN regular and saw the comments?

user1491572121 · 06/05/2017 12:33

I would have begun to repeatedly cough so he couldn't hear it.

Just film someone who refuses to do the decent thing on your mobile. Make sure they can see you doing it. If they ask you why, refuse to answer.

Doublevodkaredbull · 06/05/2017 14:01

I was once on a train with a group of lads who were playing music through a Bluetooth speaker. I recognised it as I have the same one at home (for 80's housework sessions). My phone was already paired with mine so when I turned my Bluetooth on it recognised the speaker.

I started to play nursery rhymes through their speaker via Spotify. They couldn't work out what was happening so gave up and turned it off. Job done.

hmcAsWas · 06/05/2017 14:50

I love it Doublevodkaredbull - how did you keep a straight face!

BerylStreep · 06/05/2017 15:08

Brasty really? You would start to film someone on your mobile?

That's a pretty aggressive response, and guaranteed to escalate things.

MarklahMarklah · 06/05/2017 15:46

Peanut she was a feisty one! I seem to remember there was also an incident after her husband died. There was a problem with some furniture that she had ordered. The shop were insisting that they speak with her husband, who had very recently died.
She turned up at the shop, dressed in black, with his death certificate and loudly berated them for not doing as they'd been asked.
A manager made the mistake of trying to brush it off and said, "Alright love, step into my office."
I understand she demanded he 'unhand' her in icy tones and threatened to scream at the top of her voice if they did not rectify the situation immediately.

Double that is brilliant!
