AIBU? feeling sorry for myself... no b'day cards, no invites out, no b'f

It's my birthday today. I'm 45. I got 4 cards. about 12 people wished me happy b'day on facebook but I am just feeling so sorry for myself, sitting here, alone, watching catch up grey's anatomy. I feel like the last 10 years that I've spent as a single mum, my social life has shrivelled up and I have so few friends now, more just acquaintances. And the chance of a lover/boyfriend is about as likely as a euromillions win.

Feeling really sorry for myself. Tell me to pull myself together why don't ya?!

I'm sorry to hear it. Sounds like a crap day. With birthdays I find its best to organise things myself. My mates are generally hopeless at planning anything. I've got a summer birthday so I organise a camping weekend..I just book the campsite and fb invite. Whoever turns up turns up. It's always been fine. You've got a spring birthday so could swing that too. Unless you hate camping of course. But as a single mum it's cheap, the kids are happy and everyone mucks in. It's not a reflection on you. Most people, at least in the UK are stressed and frazzled, in debt and worried and everything. There's not much heads pace for other stuff. Sort it for yourself and they will come. Arrange late birthday drinks in a bar another night or a picnic or bbq. It'll be nice and you'll realise you do have friends. It just needs a shove to make it happen. Go get em tiger! Xx

I'll be single this coming birthday..I have moments of blind panic but it's so much better than feeling shit about myself in the wrong relationship. Try to remember that xxx

4 cards sounds alright to me. My friends would never send a birthday card, that's for nans and the under 5s to do!

Just by further way of encouragement, my Mum met my stepfather when she was 48 with four stroppy teenaged children and he made her happy for about 20 years before he died.

Last year, I had a terrible year with the loss of a dear friend, bad break up and other trials. I was also not anticipating a lot of fuss being made over me as I pushed my friends away during my previous relationship (shit I know but I'm sorting it all out now).
Anyway, for my birthday I decided I would take myself to the beach and spend the day with myself, just being at ease in my own company, and enjoying self care.
Turn it around, treasure yourself don't be down. :)
