It's my birthday today. I'm 45. I got 4 cards. about 12 people wished me happy b'day on facebook but I am just feeling so sorry for myself, sitting here, alone, watching catch up grey's anatomy. I feel like the last 10 years that I've spent as a single mum, my social life has shrivelled up and I have so few friends now, more just acquaintances. And the chance of a lover/boyfriend is about as likely as a euromillions win.

Feeling really sorry for myself. Tell me to pull myself together why don't ya?!

Happy birthday. If it makes you feel any better, my DH is 45 tomorrow and has had a raging temperature and a terrible headache since Monday. He booked today off work so we could spend it as a family but has been in bed all week and we had as babysitter booked for tomorrow evening to go out who will now have to be cancelled. Worse still, I ordered his presents on amazon thinking they'd be here by now and they won't be here for over as week. He's going to the walk in clinic first thing tomorrow and has NO presents to open 😢

Happy birthday! How great is it that you can come onto Mumsnet for some company? For a birthday fail of any sort, there's always someone here!

These are typical mid life birthdays I think - many partners cannot source balloons. As a married person, I've found that if I want Birthday fuss I have to arrange it myself. Plan a party, have a party in my experience.

Happy birthday OP!

If it makes you feel any better, shortly after the death of my parents, (they died when I was less than 30,) I lost contact of my smallish extended family for a while, and for my 30th birthday, I got 2 cards; one off DH, and one he wrote out for me off our young children. I got none off any friends, (didn't have any proper friends really, just acquaintances,) no card from work, no cards off any relatives. I was gutted.

For my 40th however, I got 33 cards, and gifts off a dozen people. (Neighbours, friends, work colleagues, and family.)

Life goes in peaks and troughs. Don't feel too blue; things will get better ... Flowers

How is your post helpful or relevant? The OP is discussing her birthday in the wider sense of what it reflects about her life. You are talking about the specific issues about your husband's birthday illness. They are quite separate concepts and your comments lack any empathy or understanding. OP, I wish you happy birthday, you sound lovely and I sincerely hope that you have a wonderful new year.

Happy birthday op. Flowers Wine
I had a birthday like yours once. I got pissed on my own and text a guy I'd met a few weeks before hand but not seen since for a booty call. Very out of character for me. But I was lonley and vunrable. That was 10 years ago and my booty call is laying next to me right now. Grin

Happy Birthday OP
I turned 46 a couple of weeks ago. Ds didn't even get me a card, though didngive me a big hug and wished me happy birthday.
DH forgot for half the day....then popped to Sainsbury's on the way back from work for a naff card, a storage jar (yes I do like them) and a bunch of sweets which I don't eat.......I suppose it's the thought that counts.

After my fil died my mil met the love of her life at age 68. She's 80 now and the happiest she's been. my fil could be a bit nasty

The video promised more than it delivered ghosty! That's no musical episode in the tradition of Buffy the V S.

Blagging · 05/05/2017 22:26

How old are your kids? Can you have a wee party with them?

I agree that if you want something to happen on your birthday then you are probably best sorting it yourself or at least telling your friends or family what you would like.

MrsNutella · 05/05/2017 22:26

Happy birthday OP!

I despise birthdays (my own) and always have even when I was small. This is only getting worse as I get older. But whenever I feel sorry for myself, I think about my friend who died a few years ago. She'd have loved another birthday. Brings me right out of my grump 😊

YesILikeItToo · 05/05/2017 22:46

I saw a lot of Significant Breathing in surgical masks and not much singing! But a good track, and we can't all be Joss Whedan...

Happy B to you Mrs Nutella!
