To assume I won't find a cheap Hoover that's good?!

I hope I am! I kicked my ex out start of this week he took my bloody Hoover with him and the tv! So I need a new Hoover, I had the vax air stretch ultimate and loved it! But it's £200 and I can't afford it ATM due to having to replace a load of stuff. Can anyone recommend to me a Hoover that has powerful suction and really pulls at the carpets? I have two young children so I really need the power!

I have just bought the vax air 6 months old on facebook market place for 40. Definitely worth a look what's near you, I love it!

jacketej · 05/05/2017 07:54

How much is your budget? We've got a dyson and then MIL gave us a Henry Hoover.
Henry is 10x better than our Dyson and really pulls and gets the dog hair and crumbs out! Henrys are about 100
Otherwise Argos has some Vax reduced at the moment, won't be the model you had before but as brands go they are good!

buggerthebotox · 05/05/2017 07:54

I've got Tesco one that's great! It's fallen apart, but I can still scrape at the carpet (cat owner) and it has a fabulous suck.

Thanks for the heads-up on the Goblin, red.

Henry

haveacupoftea · 05/05/2017 08:22

If you can stretch to a Henry at least you know he will always be by your side. Henry lasts forever.

FluffyBathTowel · 05/05/2017 08:27

I hate my Henry. It's a heavy cumbersome bastard and the the nozzle always falls off when I'm vacuuming carpet. I sweat more vacumming than I do in my spin class. Am on the lookout for a cordless vacuum (that isn't a dyson) so I spend less time with twatty Henry.

ConfusedDotty · 05/05/2017 08:32

Henry definitely, it beats a Dyson every time. I also have a cylinder one from Sainsburys and it's still going strong after 4 years, it cost less than £30. Love my Henry though.

Mupflup · 05/05/2017 08:35

Another Henry vote here!

usernjdhkvdgkb · 05/05/2017 08:35

Not sure what your budget is but John Lewis do a Miele for £120 ish

I'm a cleaner and have used thousands of hoovers and would pick Miele every time

fatbottomgirl67 · 05/05/2017 08:36

God I hate hate my henry. It's a full work out everytime I used it. Had a Dyson years ago and loved it. Just about to get new carpets so interested to hear what's recommended - just not Henry!!

We bought argos cheap value upright and it was a dream. It cost £42 and we had no problem with it until a wheel fell off 8 months later.

However we took it back, and argos gave us the money off another Hoover. They didn't have any of the value in stock so we got the hoover whirlwind pet. Had to pay £25 ontop but its a pretty decent hoover

RebelandaStunner · 05/05/2017 08:47

Argos value cylinder here. Still going strong after 3 years, really pleased with it, sucks up everything in its path and only £40 iirc. Was sick of buying expensive ones and being disappointed.

piefacedClique · 05/05/2017 08:48

Bbc prog 'shop well for less' did a review on hoovers. They found one for £50 which performed as well as the dyson in their test... I think. Could still be on the iPlayer? I have a feeling it was a bagleas upright from Argos x

Helloitsme88 · 05/05/2017 08:49

Henry is my best friend. £99 and 4 years later still going strong.

Allofaflumble · 05/05/2017 08:59

You can get a basic Miele for 99.99 on eBay, and Curry's have them sometimes on sale. Would be my first choice but a lot of the budget cylinders do a fine job. I think bagged vacuum cleaners are better.

A VonHaus from Amazon is really good - check out the
reviews. It only hold about a teacup of muck but is as light
as a feather, gets right up to the edges and is quick and easy
to empty. £30 that inc delivery.

I also vote for henry. Its been better than any other vacumm cleaner we have had, ours have had to contend with our fluffy cats who leave fur where ever they sit. The henry is only one that picks it up properly

ratspeaker · 05/05/2017 09:20

I have one of these, currently on offer at Tesco direct. ( though ao.com usually say they'll match prices)

Its not too heavy. Picks up after our cat ( and rats) , has a turbo brush to use on sofas, beds etc. Easy to empty and clean filters

GERTgert06 · 05/05/2017 09:29

I've got a Henry. He's over 20 years old now, but still does a good job.

sailorcherries · 05/05/2017 10:05

We just bought a Vax Airstretch Pet from Argos two days ago. It was £189.99 reduced to £99 reduced to £69.99! We thought our carpets were clean until we used the hoover when we got home.

FluffyBathTowel · 05/05/2017 10:07

I'm not understanding all the Henry love. What is wrong with mine? I've never felt hatred for an inanimate object before until I started using him. I call him a useless piece of shit everything I vacuum so maybe he does it on purpose.

Fe2O3Girl · 05/05/2017 10:18

I'm very happy with my Dyson, but I just checked the Which? reviews, and this Hoover has a great review:

www.google.co.uk/search?q=Hoover+Enigma+TE70EN21001&rlz=1C1CHFX_en-GBGB552GB552&oq=Hoover+Enigma+TE70EN21001&aqs=chrome..69i57j69i60l2&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#q=Hoover+Enigma+TE70EN21001&tbm=shop

This Hoover is a bargain of a Best Buy. It's good on carpets and hard floors and ticks the boxes for allergy sufferers too. It is a bit disappointing with larger debris, but on the whole well worth of its Best Buy status.

What is it?
This cylinder vacuum cleaner has a medium 1.8 litre bag capacity and a decent reach from plug socket to floorhead of just under 9 metres. This is a little less than average, but long enough to cover even the largest rooms.
It comes with a crevice tool and upholstery brush as well as a pet tool for cleaning up hair and fibres from sofas and other bits of soft furniture like a dogs bed. All of the tools can be stored on the machine.

What's it great at?
This is a good vacuum cleaner when used on carpets and hard floors, it picks up an awful lot of fine dust and debris from either surface. It's particularly good at getting dust from deep within the crevices you might find in traditional floorboards.
It's also good at cleaning up long hairs and when cleaning small bits of lint and fluff from sofas and other upholstery.
Allergy sufferers will be pleased to hear that it does a wonderful job of keeping the fine dust and allergens locked tightly within its bag.
This vacuum cleaner is energy efficient and pretty quiet too.

Is there anything I should watch out for?
The one area where this vacuum cleaner falls down is a common one for modern vacuum cleaners, large debris. While this one sucks up fine dust and grime brilliantly, it struggles a bit when it comes to larger spills of bigger pieces of debris, like lentils.

Is there anything else I should know?
All of the small nozzles, with the exception of the mini turbo brush, that come with this machine can be stored within the body of the vacuum cleaner, which is a great space saving device.
Washing the filters on this machine can be a messy and unhygienic job.
It's easier to use this vacuum cleaner on the stairs than with many other vacuums.

Should I buy it?
Yes, definitely. This Hoover is brilliant at sucking up fine dust from carpets or hard floor, it's great for allergy sufferers and it's easy to use too.
