Hairdressers...

moomoose · 04/05/2017 16:24

I went to the hairdressers a few days ago and they did my regrowth with bleach. After they'd tried something else and it didn't work (might be relevant, not sure).

Anyway, when they washed off the bleach I don't think they did it very well and some was left on clumps of my hair. When I woke up the next morning I had red, raw patches where the bleach had damaged my skin...

It also hurt like fuck. I know having bleach on your head is gonna hurt - but AIBU to expect it to be washed off afterwards so my scalp doesn't get all sore and scabby? I don't know whether this is just something that happens with bleach or not...

Also, the bleach then needed a toner the next day which they did for free, so they're not assholes, but it still really hurts, am I just being a spoilt wimp?

Er it really should be washed off properly, and why didn't they tone the same day?! I have scalp bleaches (like all over rather than highlights) and they're washed completely off, then toned straight away so I see the colour I'm after immediately. I'd complain and wouldn't go back. I just hope your hair doesn't snap Confused

moomoose · 04/05/2017 16:55

They didn't have time to do the toner, I'd already been there for four hours (high lift, toner, bleach) and I had to go!

I've been going for ages and never had a problem before - so thought maybe I was just being over sensitive! Plus the colour still isn't right. I'm going to have to get it toned again I think - maybe I'll do it myself this time!

Hairdresser here Grin

I don't get how they didn't realise it hadn't been rinsed thoroughly.

How long was the bleach on for and what did it feel like when it was applied ?

What was the other thing they tried do you know?

moomoose · 04/05/2017 17:04

It was on for 20 minutes, and the other thing might have been a high lift? Is that a thing?!

Neither do I - they blow dried it afterwards so gave it a good brush! It was in the same place on both sides, near my temples.

OP posts:
PhyllisNights · 04/05/2017 17:10

Personally, I'd take photos of it and put in on their page on FB.

moomoose · 04/05/2017 17:12

I went back today for the toner, showed her and she didn't seem fussed... just said we won't bleach you again... so would putting it on their FB help do you think?

OP posts:
KungFuPandaWorksOut16 · 04/05/2017 17:13

That is strange! How did it feel when it was on? Was it feeling hot/burny?

The red patches how do they feel too touch, are they still warm?

Maudlinmaud · 04/05/2017 17:16

Only put a pic on facebook if you are prepared to find a new salon. I've never had bleach put on like that but I imagine it would sting. Poor you.

PhyllisNights · 04/05/2017 17:19

She didn't seem fussed? Definitely find a new place to go! I would put stuff on their FB page to deter people off, but that's just me.

moomoose · 04/05/2017 17:19

Yes it stung A LOT, which I was expecting. Yes they're kind of warm now, slightly warmer than the rest of my head but not too much.

It's the first time I've been back to the salon for a while, just because I've moved but it was convenient to go back this time. Maybe won't again! I did feel bad for the hairdresser - she seemed quite stressed, and then annoyed that I wasn't happy wth it... I felt less sorry for her at that point!

OP posts:
KungFuPandaWorksOut16 · 04/05/2017 18:00

Yeah you've been burnt! Avoid that salon, if she wasn't bothered I wouldn't let her near my hair. She had her chance too apologise. Chalk it up too experience and avoid the Facebook route. I can guarantee you'll end up being portrayed as the cheap skate customer who wouldn't a million treatments doing for the price of one or the customer who is never happy - seen it happen a lot.

moomoose · 04/05/2017 18:02

Yes, and presumably there's not a lot anyone can do now I'm burnt, so kicking up a fuss doesn't really seem like it's worth it - plus this is the first time anything's happened and I've been seeing her for years.

But, to get the colour ashier rather than yellow would it be ok to use another toner in a week or so?

OP posts:
Craiconwithit · 04/05/2017 18:11

She sounds thoroughly incompetent.
Scalp bleach shouldn't be painful! It suggests they've used either bleach meant for off scalp (foil highlights etc.) or too strong a developer.
Bleach should always be thoroughly washed off followed by an anti oxidant conditioner and then a toner. Bleached hair in its raw yellow state needs toning.
Your hairdresser sounds clueless, to be honest.
If you've actually got scalp burns, take pictures and put a complaint in writing to them.

PhyllisNights · 04/05/2017 18:15

Absolutely send a complaint in to them. That's malpractice hairdressing.

Craiconwithit · 04/05/2017 18:16

Try using purple shampoo for now. Fudge do a good one.
I'd be wary of applying a toner that requires mixing with developer as your scalp will be sensitive for a while and if the bleach has burnt your scalp, you can be sure it's already knackered your hair!
You could also try mixing a purple semi/direct dye with conditioner to make it lilac and apply that to slightly damp hair. Don't use crazy colour as that always fades out green. It will stain the blonde slightly but won't damage the hair. After about two washes, it will look lovely.

KungFuPandaWorksOut16 · 04/05/2017 18:22

I personally would try too avoid toner for a little while just while your scalp is healing. You don't want too aggravate it even more.

Phyliss who would she sent this complaint in too? Yes, she could speak to the manager if she has one. But like I said further up it will be easy to deny/refute.

Example one - she moaned in the salon she didn't like the colour, she obviously bleached it at home.

Example two - client couldn't be pleased no matter what I did. She was just after a style and colour for free

Example - client wanted a lot of treatments for basically nothing and is now claiming this.

If the OP has been with her for a few years I can guarantee the hairdress will have a little fan base so wouldn't advise complaining social media. And a manager will more than likely brush you off.

moomoose · 04/05/2017 18:25

I can't get a decent photo of it, but either the bleach is still there, or I've got lots of crusty scabs on my head...

It irks me a little that I've paid for something that a) isn't what I wanted and b) really hurts! I'll have a good poke around in the mirror tonight and see what's up. Thanks for your advice all, will step away from the toners for a while!

OP posts:
KungFuPandaWorksOut16 · 04/05/2017 18:28

I'm guessing it will more than likely scabs. You must of been in serious pain when the bleach was on! How the hairdresser didn't realise she had applied far too much at either side is beyond me. Is your scalp red and sore anywhere else? Slight bit more tender than usual?.

CricketFishieDHAndI · 04/05/2017 18:28

Uhm... Don't go there again.

Gosh. What did they do to you? And why did you have to come back the next day?

Seems rather awful.

Craiconwithit · 04/05/2017 18:28

I can guarantee her insurer won't brush you off when you include pictures of a burnt scalp and a letter from your GP.
It's irrelevant what following she has on social media. She has caused you physical harm and needs to take this seriously.
Did she insist on you have a skin test 48 hours beforehand?

KungFuPandaWorksOut16 · 04/05/2017 18:38

craic

But insuring company if I had burnt her why did she come back the next day? I believe she attempted bleaching at home, she did express concern she wasn't happy with the colour it had turned out. It was the reason she was booked in the next day.
Insuring companies are not just immediately going too side with OP.

Not everything is a law suit.

moomoose · 04/05/2017 18:51

I'm not going to sue, but if I can find someone to have a look at my head (a friend) and they can confirm it's burnt and take a decent picture I might ask the salon (nicely) for my money back...

The hairdresser is a nice girl and I absolutely don't want to cause her to claim on her insurance (is that a thing they all have?), but my head hurts (now, and was incredibly painful when she put the bleach on) and I didn't get what I wanted.

OP posts:
KungFuPandaWorksOut16 · 04/05/2017 18:57

Does she have a manager, or does she run the salon herself or rent the space? You should most definitely ask for your money back. You didn't get the service you wouldn't and you Got burnt!

moomoose · 04/05/2017 19:16

She works in a salon, there's definitely a manager/owner. It's an independent salon though. Thanks again for all your advice, it's much appreciated! :-)

OP posts:
Craiconwithit · 04/05/2017 19:19

She's burnt you due to her incompetence but you don't want to upset her because she's nice???
Yes, the insurance company will side with the OP as it's too expensive to pay lawyers fee to defend it.
All hairdressers should have public liability insurance to cover eventualities like this.
