To Think the Tories Are STILL At War With The Disabled?

JoffreyBaratheon · 03/05/2017 10:56

As parent of a disabled child, this is what I'm preoccupied with, during a General Election...

Under Cameron and Osborne, and iDS - it was clear the tories were engaging in an all out war on the disabled. Cuts to benefits, and services and of course, the loathed and disgusting PIP replacing DLA...

But what has strong and stable (well, weak an unstable) Theresa May done to reverse the damage? Nothing, so far as I can see.

My son had DLA for life and by some miracle, managed to get PIP but will now have to re-apply in five years. If the tories have the cure for autism and it is going to be made available in 5 years - fair enough. But something tells me - they haven't. We were put through months of hell for that.

Other disabled people and their carers have far worse stories.

Now I might be stupid but I can't see what May has done to address the callous culture of PIP. She is still attacking the disabled. Or am I missing something and AIBU?

I think this should be enough to lose them the election. The fact they have attacked disabled people to the extent they have. Am I the only one not to be hoodwinked by this 'I'm only a vicar's daughter' BS? What she has done to the disabled is the least 'christian' thing I can think of and I want her held to account for it. Anyone else?

Magpiemagpie There have been huge cuts to Motability recently meaning that far fewer vehicles are on the scheme. This means that only the most basic models are now available and hence people who wanted to upgrade using their own money are not able to do so.
Before lecturing people on getting their facts straight, why don't you try getting your own facts straight first Hmm

Magpiemagpie · 09/05/2017 16:29

Cowgirls

I can't link to it but ive just checked
on the motobility website there are 1350 odd cars that you can most definatly put down an advance deposit on
I got bored but managed to get up to a deposit of 1995 .This is current as of today

Why dont you check it out before calling ME a liar

I guess I must have imagined the £999 made payable to vauxhall for my sisters car in March 2017 which was taken from my bank account as her advance deposit for her new car

I also must have imagined the deposit of 2000 for my brother in laws car last year

Bloody good that job I have plenty money to fling around on imaginary advancd rentals deposits for cars for motobilty

Magpiemagpie · 09/05/2017 16:37

www.motability.co.uk

I hardly think that 1350 cars that are availible with advancd payments of a min £545 and up £2000 is not a lot
Im sure that most people could find something suitable out of that
Yes there are basic cars but there are still a lot of premium high spec cars inc the 200BHP astra GTC for a payment of 1300

if you do an advance search for car it clearly states search by advance rental payment

But I guess the mobility site has got it wrong and your correct

www.motability.co.uk/cars-scooters-and-powerchairs/search/cars/?subType=1&originalTotalRows=2325&allowance_type=DLA&web_transmission=Manual&web_transmission=Semi-Automatic&web_transmission=Automatic&Find=

And I have no issue with anyone paying to get a better car I just wish people wouldn't say that it's no possible to do anymore
They took off the scheme range rovers and some of the BMWs but there are still thousands that you can put advancd rental payments on as seen on the site itself

cowgirlsareforever · 09/05/2017 16:37

I haven't said that isn't true. There are plenty of cars you can put an advanced deposit down in order to secure. What has happened is that you cannot now get a better vehicle by paying more. For example the vehicle we currently have and which is suitable for our needs is no longer available on the scheme. The choice used to be far better. So yes, you have got your facts very wrong.

cowgirlsareforever · 09/05/2017 16:40

There has been a further cut on the quality of vehicles since the Range Rovers were cut in about 2011 following a Daily Mail article. FYI BMWs are still available on the scheme. Like I have said, please get your facts straight.

Magpiemagpie · 09/05/2017 16:45

I disagree that im wrong
BMW /range rovers Ok so I got 50 percent of it correct / wrong
My point was that you can pay an advancd deposit to get a car that's on the scheme
Previous posters ( not sure Who it was )
posted that you can't put down a deposit that's they way i read it
I pointed out that you can because I have done it several times
I wasn't talking about people already on the scheme wanting to upgrade / change the car they already have

Magpiemagpie · 09/05/2017 16:47

You also write above only the most basic model available which is not true

You can pay to get a better model
Neither of my family member cars are basic models
I think we are looking at this from different angles

cowgirlsareforever · 09/05/2017 16:55

Most of the better models have now been taken off the scheme. As I have said, our vehicle which we are very happy with is no longer available on scheme. That happened about six months ago. That is a fact. That may not affect people like your sister but for families like ours, who have complex needs and who were happy to pay a substantial advance payment it is incredibly frustrating that our choice has been curtailed on political grounds.

AwaywiththePixies27 · 09/05/2017 17:13

LovelyBath77 I did appeal. It was a Judge who decided I didn't act thick enough in their statement of reasons!

olliegarchy99 · 09/05/2017 17:18

I have to say this thread has descended as usual into a slanging match which is a) childish and b) unnecessary. Everyone would be more than happy that the severely disabled received all the help they can get - but calling people names garners absolutely no sympathy especially when it achieves absolutely no change.
Given that carers allowance is received for 35 hours caring, most right-thinking people feel as I do that there should be a living wage carers allowance (circa £25k per annum) for those who care for the seriously disabled who need constant attention.

SynysterGates · 09/05/2017 17:20

i must have missed the name calling.
sorry it offended you, how dare people be angry.

please explain what you mean by "seriously disabled"

TheMonkeyandthePlywoodViolin · 09/05/2017 17:21

People dont have to act in humble fluffy fashion when being called entitled and grasping

cowgirlsareforever · 09/05/2017 17:23

Incidentally Magpiemagpie the car you have quoted as being a premium high spec car is simply not suitable for many people with disabilities. Believe me, if I could actually get my DP into one the hot hatches which now seem to dominate the Motability choices, I would do.

Spikeyball · 09/05/2017 17:28

There are clearly some people on here who are not happy with severely disabled people having all the help they can get.

Magpiemagpie · 09/05/2017 17:32

Cowgirls I agree but if it's on the scheme then people can have them if it's what they want and it might be suitable for them .
I think you and I were looking at it from different points of the scheme

my brother in law has a Volvo C70 or x70 a big SUV type as its suitable for his needs/ wherlchair

His previous one was a VW Tiguan or Toraque

Like your car they removed that from the scheme so my brother in law had to get something else which was more expensive

They are always removing cars but they also bring out others. And I think overall there is plenty of choice with motobility

Magpiemagpie · 09/05/2017 17:41

Cowgirls
my orginal post was for the poster who wrote that you can no longer top up to get a better car back on page 10 /11 .
That's why I replied to get the facts correct as you can still pay advance payments

It wasn't directed at you I don't think i even read your post

I know nothing about your situation as my family members have always kept there cars for 3 years and then just got another similar one
Sorry to hear that you can't get your car again on the scheme

cowgirlsareforever · 09/05/2017 17:45

They are always removing cars but they also bring out others.

This is true to a point but as I have said, recently there has been a further substantial cap on the value of vehicles available resulting in a radical reduction in cars that are available.

WankingMonkey · 09/05/2017 20:14

the problem with the assements the companies are PAID TO FAIL people they get a bonus for every single person they fail with higher amount for reaching targets.

Yes, the bonuses for failing people does explain the blatant lies in the reports sometimes. Giving bonuses for failing people at their assessment is just cruel. I can't so much blame the assessors as they also probably have families to support and it must be tempting to just fail a few to get a nice bonus for the month but the system should not be like this. Its like the 'sanction targets' that the jobcentre still refuse to admit exist despite proof of them. How can you set a target for something thats meant to only be applied if the claimant does something 'wrong'?

LovelyBath77 · 09/05/2017 20:15

I would have thought Appeals would have been better at going on evidence and awareness of the condition, mine was a paper appeal so they didn't even see me, just my medical letters and care plan etc. I'm sorry to hear they were basing things on mainly observations at the time. Possibly they vary in their knowledge and experience as well, not sure.

LovelyBath77 · 09/05/2017 20:16

Appeals are not 'paid to fail' as far as I'm aware.

WankingMonkey · 09/05/2017 20:31

Appeals seem to be actually fair. Independent panel and such. For mine a few years back, they actually looked at my evidence and passed me before I even entered the room! Was only formalities when I went in. They wanted to know what treatment I had lined up for the future though but they said that didn't effect anything they were just worried about me (at that stage I was in A&E/hospital almost weekly)

HelenaDove · 09/05/2017 20:54

Silly sausage what happened with your mum and the non existent medical is MAJOR mental abuse and gaslighting.

The worst case of gaslighting ive ever heard.

HelenaDove · 09/05/2017 21:00

"with the assesments the companies are PAID TO FAIL"

He who pays the piper names the tune.

AwaywiththePixies27 · 09/05/2017 21:09

Yes. I know what mine was. I didn't have enough medical evidence and I used to work with the Judge doing my tribunal Blush I did ask the clerk if that was okay and she said fine and to go ahead. I wished I'd been more assertive at the time and asked for someone else. Sad

Incidentally wankingmonkey I spent most of last year in and out of hospital too!

HelenaDove · 09/05/2017 21:13
