Posting here for traffic.

As the title really, those of you that would say you love your job, what do you do?

Appreciate that people can love a job for many reasons (fulfilment, flexibility, money!) but I'm hankering after a career change and looking for inspiration!

Headmistress. I'm in it for the power and money.

More seriously, I am still in it because I need the money. If I got rich tomorrow, I wouldn't turn up the following day. I like the power because I do have my own set ideas and think I'm correct and like to be able to implement them. I think I'm good at my job and do good for others by being good at it. I like children, on the whole. I like the holidays.

I wouldn't want to do it in a state school.

I'm a Finance/Business Manager in the Civil Service and love it more than I could say. Great money (I started as a PA four years ago on £17k, am now on £37k), really flexible and working with the best people. Most of that is because of the team I work in though, and if I did the job elsewhere it would likely be less flexible and fun.

scruffmacduff · 03/05/2017 07:03

Teacher. I work in the school nursery and I love it Smile

dancingqueen345 · 03/05/2017 07:10

24hour Grinmoney and power. Love it! Although teaching has just never appealed.

Kally that's amazing! Well done!

Did you know you could have that sort of progression when you started? I often think I'm too impatient and that it can take being in a job to find a different path you could go down.. if that makes sense

Public health analyst

MsJamieFraser · 03/05/2017 07:14

I can't say mine as it puts me completely.

However I "manage" in excess of 25.000 homes.

I love that it challenges me everyday in different way, I love having a good olde argument with my board Blush

being a part of something larger that makes a difference. I love that everyone cares and are able to think outside the box to a level of flexibility.
Every day is different and I get to interact with such a varied groups/people, and help those people, long gone are the days it's just about collecting the rent, it is to a certain degree, as without rent we can't pay our overhead, but we actually get to help people in so many different ways.

I have a fabulous team around me.

dancinfeet · 03/05/2017 07:15

Dance teacher. I don't earn very much money after all of the running costs of my classes are paid, and it's very long hours managing the class planning and day to day running of the business as well as teaching classes, but I love my job and wouldn't change it for the world!

YellowCrocus · 03/05/2017 07:17

Work at home managing projects for a digital publisher. I love working at home and setting my own hours. I really enjoy the creative aspect too.

TheSnowFairy · 03/05/2017 07:19

Marketing manager for a state secondary school.

It's interesting, no two days are the same, I work with a lovely team and my work life balance is excellent (pt, term time only).

This diagrams sums up happiness / motivation at work pretty well:

AnonymousNovelist · 03/05/2017 07:30

Novelist Smile

tigerdriverII · 03/05/2017 07:32

I'm a partner in a law firm. Primarily employment law but I also lead a specialist team focusing on a particular industry. No two days are the same; the vast majority of my clients are fantastic and some have become personal friends; the hours are unpredictable but the work is always varied and interesting; my colleagues are fab; I learn new things all the time; I can give younger female lawyers a hand up the ladder. And the pay's ok too.

KallyBox · 03/05/2017 07:37

OP I didn't to be honest. I just applied for a PA job in London and after about six months it was pretty obvious to my employers that I should be at a higher grade so they encouraged me to apply for a promotion. I was promoted after after year to an Executive Assistant, and after another year promoted to a Private Secretary. Another year later I moved into another Private Secretary role which took over the business management side and finance so that's what I do now! To be honest I wanted to move into something more analytical but turns out I'm good at this and enjoy it so I'll probably stick here for a while Smile

I do think at the lower end of the civil service in London it's easy to move through the ranks quite quickly if you're determined and good at it. Once you get to a HEO or SEO, it becomes much harder.

Bythepath · 03/05/2017 07:38

I work for a very large Advice Charity. I help people on a daily basis make real difference to their lives. I am lucky in that I am in charge of my own diary for appointments and have a flexible senior manager. I also have extra areas of organisational responsibility which is good for my ego and makes me feel involved at a higher level.

TinDogTavern · 03/05/2017 07:40

I'm a Front of House Manager in an arts centre. I absolutely love it.

FruitCider · 03/05/2017 07:41

Substance misuse nurse in a place with many bars and keys.

operaha · 03/05/2017 07:42

I have a senior safeguarding role in a school. Over ten years worked up through various roles from TA to this. I absolutely love what i do.

ItsNeverSunnyInWales · 03/05/2017 07:44

Part owner of a Cafe/deli. My friend and I started the business 8 years ago when our youngest dc started school. I love it, because I can see how far we've come.

We're expanding to another shop by 2019 and all the fresh excitement is coming back! Can't wait!

WingsofNylon · 03/05/2017 07:47

I work in business ethics. My main focus at the moment is around ethical sourcing and trying to prevent slavery throughout our supply chain.
I always remember a line from one of the Sex and the City movies. Samantha asks the other women when they were last happy in those relationships. Charlotte responds 'Everyday, not all day everyday but everyday'. That's how I feel about my job. So long as there is one point during each day that I love it then it is worth doing.

ShowMePotatoSalad · 03/05/2017 07:48

I enjoy my job when my boss is in because they give me so much work to do and I love being busy. When it's just me and the other senior person, they hoard work, avoid difficult or complicated tasks, and won't delegate to me. Those days are beyond awful and actually quite soul-destroying. I'm capable and experienced yet I'm treated like I can't be trusted to even run to the photocopier. It's awful. Sad

But when my boss is in, it's brilliant!

Vroomster · 03/05/2017 07:51

Children's nurse. It's tiring and hard work but also very satisfying and rewarding. Good and bad days.

millifiori · 03/05/2017 07:53

I'm an editor and writer. I love it because I can mainly work from home, but sometimes get a placement in a glam London ad agency - nice mix. And best of all - many of the writers I've edited over the years have just got better and better. I love seeing their work blossom and their ideas grow. Working for a couple right now, one especially - I'd pay to read her work, let alone have the honour of 'improving it.' Makes me happy a few days in advance when I know a script from her is coming in. I've been doing this for years. When I started out I was working long hours for peanuts, which I wouldn't now. I've speeded up too. Used to take two weeks to edit a full script. Now it takes me 2-3 days.
