To "kindly" go to them with a nappy bag?

Just walking back to my house. Dh and dd are at a relatives and walking back in 20 minutes. Young woman dashing down the road with a terrier that then stopped and took a huge pooh right on the pavement. She then spots me and does the "where are my poo bags dance" when you can tell quite categorically she is going to leave it.

I stop and search my bag for nappy sacks. Don't have one on me but my house is right there. I head back to my house and she starts walking away. Grab some nappy sack and run after her saying "here you go and here are a few extra ones just in case". She had already got a fair distance from the mess. She thanked me but you could tell that she wasn't pleased and cleaned up after the dog.

Dh not pleased with me as he said that she could see where we live and that I don't know who they are. My argument is my almost 2 year old is about to walk back down that pavement and I don't want there to be crap on it. Aibu?

@Citizenoftheuniverse you know if you ever even did it once, for whatever reason, you'd end up feeling awful and with a fine as well. Hate that people get away with it Angry

A few years ago my DH had words with someone who let their dog shit in the street outside our house and then walk away from it. They didn't clean it up with the bag that was offered. Just told him to fuck off.

Later that night someone threw a stone through our window.

I can understand your husband worrying about retaliation.

BeeThirtythree · 01/05/2017 19:11

Good on you! Hopefully you'll deter the person from letting their dog poo near your home.
We are trying to teach our 4 year old DD about the responsibilities of owning a dog (Loves dogs and is desperate for a pet dog) When she sees someone not picking up after their dog will call them out...loudly and politely. At first DH told her not to say that to people...erm,why not?
Carrying extra bags when going for a walk is a good idea...even though we don't have a dog but plenty of irresponsible owners around here!

SheSaidHeSaid · 01/05/2017 19:12

Good for you!!

glitterglitters · 01/05/2017 19:14

@Happyhippy45 eeek hopefully that was a one off?!

@BeeThirtythree haha good on your dd. My dad used to pick up litter he saw dropped and "return it" to their owners. As a teenager it mortified me but I tell you what, I've never littered and get so angry when people do.

This reminded me of an incident I witnessed 2 days ago. I was on a bus going into my local town, and as the bus turned into the high street,I saw a guy, probably aged mid 20's,with some sort of staffie/pit bull type dog on a lead. As the bus waited at the traffic lights, they walked past, then the dog stopped, squatted and took a big dump on the pavement. The guy just laughed and walked off! I was like WTAF?! There were literally dozens of people around, not one said anything to him. Right in the middle of the pavement in a busy shopping centre. I just could not believe what I was seeing.

Good for you! I've been asked for and given nappy bags to dog owners who've run out in our local park.

FeedTheSharkAndItWillBite · 01/05/2017 19:26

Oh no! Well done! :)

purplecoathanger · 01/05/2017 19:28

You have a great big fat well done, from me and I have a dog. I'm beyond incensed by these disgusting people who think it's ok to leave faeces for anyone to step in.

C8H10N4O2 · 01/05/2017 19:28

Well done OP and thank you!

People walk their dogs down our road as its en route to playing fields and woods. Most clean up after their dogs but there are always some who don't and who let their dogs poo right by gates and in the middle of the path. One of our elderly neighbours (as in real elderly as opposed to flower child elderly!) finds it a nightmare as her sight is deteriorating and she struggles to distinguish between leaves, gray/brown old paving, debris and poo.

Spudlet · 01/05/2017 19:30

I would have thanked you too. I'm generally very organised with poo bags but I've been caught out a couple of times and would have welcomed a nappy sack fairy!

skyzumarubble · 01/05/2017 19:31

Good on you. I have a dog and normally have a gazillion poo bags on me but one time for some reason I didn't and he did a massive poo by someone's gate. I knocked on the door apologising profusely and asked if they had a plastic bag. They were very happy to provide it, no way I could have left it there.

Esspee · 01/05/2017 19:32

What upsets me more is people who bag the poo then leave it tied to a tree, next to a lamppost or behind a large rock. What is that all about?

Crashbangwhatausername · 01/05/2017 19:35

You absolutely did the right thing, I also always carry bags but one evening The wind had taken my spare bags off when I picked up first poo. I then found myself bagless with ddog crapping on the street. I wish someone had chased me down with a bag rather than having to rush several streets away to get a bag and then get back to offending giant poo before someone slipped in it

silkpyjamasallday · 01/05/2017 19:36

Good for you OP it is disgusting how many people keep dogs as pets but won't do the gross bits like picking up the poo. If there weren't people like you the world would be a much poo-ier place! My DM regularly accosts dog walkers who try to leave the shit in the street and gives them a plastic bag, we've never even had a dog and she is still more prepared than them. I've seen someone try to ignore their dog pooing in the wood chips at a children's park, it's astonishing that they are willing to endanger people's children rather than pick up the god damn poo. Angry

Crashbangwhatausername · 01/05/2017 19:43

What meant to say in my post is that if someone had offered me a bag then I would have been very happy, no one should leave poo on a street, ever

AllRoadsLeadBackToRadley · 01/05/2017 19:46

Sod the woman- I need to learn the "where's the shit bag?" dance!

Is it on youtube?

(YANBU BTW)

OhMrBadger · 01/05/2017 19:50

Bravo OP! I'm also impressed by your speedy retrieval of nappy bags and catching her up! Well played! 👏

TroubleinDaFamily · 01/05/2017 19:51

Years ago I pulled into a side road to do the school run, there was a plastic bag full of car cleared out litter. Maccy D's etc.,
I picked it up to dispose of it, I looked inside and found an address.

I took it back to the office and posted it back to them.

Imagine their intrigue at receiving an unsolicited parcel.

Imagine their confusion when they opened it and they were looking at their own litter. Grin

previouslyanumber · 01/05/2017 19:54

I'd like to catch the bastard that bags it and then chucks it on the ground along our road. It is littered with the little black poo bags which get trodden on in the dark, and leak.

Natsku · 01/05/2017 20:00

Good for you! Hate people that don't pick up after their dogs, its especially horrible in the winter when the poo is hidden under the snow and you think you're going to step into nice clean snow and nope, there's dog shit under there Angry Plus Spring is tainted with the aroma of defrosting dog poo that's been hidden all winter under the snow.

Hoppinggreen · 01/05/2017 20:02

A friend of mine had a cafe and a dog pood right outside the door. Owner walked away and so my friend "helpfully" caught up to her with a bag and offered it to her to pick up.
The woman refused so my friend told her that if she didn't pick it up herself SHE would and follow her home and post it through her letterbox!!!
Bloody hate people who don't pick up dog poo - I've never ever run out of bags, all my coats have pockets full .

AnotheBloodyChinHair · 01/05/2017 20:04

You'r my hero OP

WeeCheekyBird · 01/05/2017 20:10

As a dog owner I would have been so glad of that in her situation - assuming it was done genuinely and not passive-aggressively .

There's nothing worse than running out of poo bags on a walk and I usually have to go home and get some then walk back to pick up (I can't leave it lying and freak out about it otherwise). It would save me an anxiety-filled detour! :)
