To have gone right off Idris Elba

After hearing him in the Sky ad extolling the virtues of HAITCH DEE.

I winced. I can never look at him in quite the same way again. Oh Idris, we could have been so good together. And you've ruined it.

Aibu?

Ha you're very shallow!
He's laverly!!!

randomuntrainedcuntowner · 01/05/2017 02:53

Idris Elba has always been a massive twat. If he was such a great actor, he'd act less of a twat.

steff13 · 01/05/2017 03:11

He's beautiful.

GreenHillsSunnySkies · 01/05/2017 03:37

He's an actor he can be trained out of bad speech patterns ffs. I'm willing to sacrifice myself and take one for the mumsnet team, I'll even waive my normal fee in this case. He can come and live with me, be the Eliza Doolittle to my Professor 'Iggins so to speak. It may take a few years but I'll get him speaking proper like what I do.
You're all welcome.

StrawberryJelly00 · 01/05/2017 03:39

Totally love him!!

FrenchLavender · 01/05/2017 03:54

Haha I knew as soon as I saw your thread title that it would be about the Haitch thing. 😂 I was exactly the same. Did a little wince the first time he said it and it was then repeated about six times throughout the ad, by the end of which I was left feeling a hurt and bewildered. How could he do this to me when I had such high hopes for our life together?

FrenchLavender · 01/05/2017 04:02

Greenhills speaking of being trained out of bad speech patterns at drama school, I once heard Gemma Arterton interviewed being interviewed. She sounded really well spoken, lovely well modulated and ever so slightly plummy vowels, and then she said 'so we done......and than we done......' 😱

I burst out laughing. Anyone who has spoken with an RP accent from being a small child would never make a (regional) grammatical error like that. She was so outed!

steff13 · 01/05/2017 04:04

With what I have planned for him, he won't need to be doing very much speaking.

haveacupoftea · 01/05/2017 04:18

Benedict Cumberbatch would never say haitch or 'we done' Blush

steff13 · 01/05/2017 04:20

Mmm, that's true. I wouldn't need him to talk either, though.

Madmotherintheattic · 01/05/2017 04:28

Oh I want to cry. He's broken forever now, for me.
He can do a mean American accent (the Wire) so why can't he say "aitch" booohhoooo.

Trifleorbust · 01/05/2017 06:21

Let's not fight over the issue, ladies. He's mine

LightYears · 01/05/2017 06:42

I've just come back from Mars, I have no idea of what you're all talking about. But from reading the thread I guess he's said something odd, is there a clip of him saying it.

MrsKoala · 01/05/2017 06:51

I went to a birthday party once and suddenly someone shouted 'who wants to come to a party with me down the road, STRINGER BELL is there?'!! All these young women literally stopped in their tracks and sprinted out the door. I was left with the birthday woman, her dh and looking forlornly at my new boyfriend (now dh) thinking 'how bad will it look if i join them'?

I chose to stay, but i often think 'i could be married to Idris now if i'd just made a different choice. In another universe i'm sure i am'.

MrsELM21 · 01/05/2017 06:51

But just look at him 😍😍😍😍😍😍

NeverTooOldForAnything · 01/05/2017 06:56

I'm prepared to overlook this. Just because it's him.

Fishface77 · 01/05/2017 06:59

I agree op.
I'll take one for the team and have him and when we have fidrish babies I'll teach them how to speak properly.
See, we already have a celebrity name FIDRISH.

WateryTart · 01/05/2017 07:18

YANBU. I felt exactly the same way. Very disappointed.

FannyFare · 01/05/2017 07:21

He can haitch away as far as I'm concerned...and I will just gaze at him lovingly, nod and smile Grin

AliCat36 · 01/05/2017 07:31

Has anyone seen Rock-n-Rolla? Idris, Tom Hardy. Gerard Butler all in one film together - sigh!! (And it's not a bad film either) They can say haitch & use double negatives - I don't care Grin

TheMonkeyandthePlywoodViolin · 01/05/2017 07:31

Oh no these dreadful common people who can't or don't hide it. How simply revolting

moomoogalicious · 01/05/2017 07:35

He's from north London innit. We all say haitch here

TheFirstMrsDV · 01/05/2017 07:37

I thought this was going to be about him having dodgy views on women or politics or hating dogs or something.

FFS.
Nothing wrong with the way he talks. Its part of what makes him so utterly perfect.

This is why posh women should keep their mitts of our men. You just can't handle the realness.

Yes! It's a great film. Very funny. And of course TH is in it as the playful handsome bob. 😍

GetAHaircutCarl · 01/05/2017 10:33

Idris Elba can pronounce anything just how he wants.

In fact I'll start saying haitch if he'd agree to fuss with my Sky Box.
