Emmanuel macron? He is lovely Blush

AIBU to move to France and persuade him to marry me and live in France as the French First Lady thing?

I'm amazed the French are so relaxed about his marriage both before and after he hit the public eye. How are there no questions about his judgement?

The French have got themselves into a position where they are choosing between a rock and a hard place IMO.

The French don't really give this sort of thing much head space. I recall some french friends being rather bemused by our reaction to the Hollande scandal.

Believe it or not, teacher-pupil relationships are not allowed in France either, it's not a matter of laissez faire even if he had technically reached the age of consent, but rather of plausible deniabiliry over when they got together. Anyway, he's rumoured to be secretly gay and having an affair with the head of Radio France...

We discussed Monsieur and Madame Macron at work earlier in the week and came to the conclusion that there are double standards in that we would not be talking negatively about a relationship of a 64 year old man and a 39 year old woman.

Regardless of this, I hope he wins by a large margin.

I agree with Macron that it is misogynistic to say he must be gay as no one could possibly be with a woman that old!

Although on the other hand I wouldn't want my 15 year son involved with a 39 year old teacher. I'd be horrified.

It's difficult as I think it is mitigated by the fact that it turned out to be true love and they are still together but it is undoubtably a bit of a dark love story.

Madamfrog · 29/04/2017 13:14

We don't care about who our politicians are married/not married to as long as it is legal. Their private life is just that, private. People do what they like. The only thing that really bothers us is if they fund it at public expense.

spinassienne · 29/04/2017 13:18

It may be legal now, but it's not clear it was legal when itt started. Perso, j'm'en fous though.

Graffiti near our house says "Macron est sexy mais je ne le veux pas".

lorumipsum · 29/04/2017 13:47

Again, I personally don't give a toss about their age difference but the circumstances of their first getting together are indeniably a subject of interest.

Yes i would, especially if it started when the girl was 15.

I agree Bambini
