Popped into Morrisons yesterday for a few bits with my mum. Both had less than 10 items so went on the less than 10 items bit - there was nobody else there. We only had the one trolley between us so were sorting out what was mine and what was hers, took maximum 30 seconds. In this time a member of staff with a coat on so was at end of his shift pushed in front of me and my mum and the cashier said "you dont mind do you he's desperate to get home". Actually, yes we did mind. just beause he works there doesn't give him priority above anyone else. He only had 2 things but took ages counting out his money, then they had a chat about when they'd next be on shift together so took a good 5 minutes.

We both said that we werent happy with what had happened to the cashier, I said that it was wrong. She said "oh sorry" with no feeling behind it. As we walked off I said "I'll be emailing head office"

Now wondering if we should do? Would you?

Given he pushed past, that's not OK. He didn't ask to go ahead, which would have been very different. Pushing past is fucking rude from anyone.

You should talk to the store manager, because I doubt s/he would be happy about their staff doing this.

BoomBoomsCousin · 27/04/2017 20:21

If you were faffing at the checkout I have some sympathy for someone punching in front. But if I were the manager I would not be pleased about staff doing it. Chatting for 5 minutes is very bad service too. But you should speak to the manager at the store not email head office - who won't have a clue who anybody is.

RedDogsBeg · 27/04/2017 20:22

Phyllis the employee was also a customer as they were purchasing goods from the store. Check your comprehension skills.

Worra is right you are on a permanent wind up.

AfroBrown, so you'd complain just in the hope of getting a £5 voucher but risk someone's job? Get a life.

Asmoto · 27/04/2017 20:24

Supermarkets should introduce a till with the rules that:

  • you have your card/money ready
  • you don't have half a dozen crumpled discount vouchers that won't scan
  • your carrier bags are not at the bottom of some other bag waiting to be fished out and unfolded at the point your shopping comes through
  • you are not allowed to go back to get items you have forgotten once your shopping is on the conveyor.

[these are lighthearted suggestions before anyone accuses me of being too easily irritated Grin ]

PhyllisNights · 27/04/2017 20:26

RedDogsBeg, the employee was most likely wearing their uniform and as an employee would have it stated in their contract to represent the organisation professionally at all times. Stuff like this is putting your company into disrepute. Actions have repercussions, no matter what you do or where you work.

CrunchySeaweed · 27/04/2017 20:29

I wouldn't email head office, but perhaps speak to the store manager about customer service

saltandvinegarcrisps1 · 27/04/2017 20:31

I kicked off in sainsburys when pregnant as they had a "baskets only" til - I had 4 things but was using a trolley as DC1 was in it and I couldn't carry anything. The cashier didn't want to serve me as I had a trolley not a basket. I got served after explaining the baskets only policy discriminated against people with small shops and DC / those who couldn't carry a basket. What really rips my knitting though is people who stand in the queue, pack their stuff then FAFF about looking for their method of payment - as if being charged is a complete surprise. I am the me standing (somewhat anally) with my card in hand ready to pay immediately the shopping has been scanned.

TeslasDeathRay · 27/04/2017 20:31

If you didn't already have your items sorted out before getting in the queue then you'd have been holding him up if he waited.

Hercules12 · 27/04/2017 20:32

Last time I was in morrisons with a trolley load of shopping I was asked to pay at the less than 10 items till. I pointed out I had far more but morrisons man said they didn't mind in the slightest and it would save me queuing.

lljkk · 27/04/2017 20:33

I could be very nice if someone was rushing to collect a kid from childcare or whatever, but I'd have gone stabby when they paused to talk. The best time to complain was there & then when they paused to have a natter. Directly to the people who gave you the bad service. Customer service in Britain can be so bad I'm only half surprised about this happening, though.

RedDogsBeg · 27/04/2017 20:34

Phyllis please just stop the hyperbolic rhetoric and dial down the wind up, it's becoming tedious.

ShatnersBassoon · 27/04/2017 20:34

It was a bit wimpy, to make a threat about emailing HO! It's exactly the sort of thing you'd quickly mention to customer services on your way out. Have the courage of your convictions and make a complaint there and then. HO aren't needed to resolve these small everyday gripes.

I do agree that these sorts of official complaints must have been few and far between when customers would have to speak to a real person or post a letter for more serious issues.

Chewie1000 · 27/04/2017 20:35

I'd email head office or write a complaint to the store manager. It's completely rude and out of order - plus you might get a free voucher out of it lol.

VladmirsPoutine · 27/04/2017 20:38

You sound so difficult I think you should e-mail head office just so that they can ask you to never visit their store ever again.

ForalltheSaints · 27/04/2017 20:39

Talk to the store manager. Seems the best chance to get it changed. You then have the option if it becomes a regular thing (unlikely) to complain to head office.

PhyllisNights · 27/04/2017 20:41

RedDogsBeg, I say it how I see it. I work in HR and I have to deal with stuff like this all the time.

NotTheDuchessOfCambridge · 27/04/2017 20:42

So, you and your mum were taking your time sorting goods that you had in a trolley in the Basket/10 items lane and you begrudge someone popping in front of you? Yes, yes you are BU. Not sure how it would take 5 whole minutes to talk about shifts unless they were discussing them all the way to Christmas, exaggeration maybe?

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 27/04/2017 20:43

Maybe he was desperate to get home. There could have been a family emergency.
I think you'll come across as a crank TBH. If you email Head Office.

ShatnersBassoon · 27/04/2017 20:46

Working in HR Phyllis, you must groan every time some silly complaint gets pushed your way because it went straight to HO instead of the complainer having the guts to say "That man and woman acted thoughtlessly and mildly inconvenienced me," to the manager.

SukiPutTheEarlGreyOn · 27/04/2017 20:48

I get that you're miffed but taking it further would just be petty. Life really is too short to sweat stuff like this. Would you honestly want to get people into trouble on account of a bit of a peeve?

PhyllisNights · 27/04/2017 20:48

ShatnersBassoon, well, in my organisation, it depends on whether the manager decides to contact HR and make it a formal process.

If I was in the position of the OP, I would be upset. I wasn't allowed to act that way as a staff member when I was working part-time at the Co-Op while attending college.

carnation2531 · 27/04/2017 20:51

I would - irrespective of how long it was it was incredibly rude behaviour!

londonrach · 27/04/2017 20:52

Im surprised people said not to complain. I phoned head office of morrisons about their toy section. It was like a jumble sale, nothing where it should be and no idea of price of anything as the tickets didnt match the mixture of toys randomly placed wherever including items from other departments including xmas items. I stopped at customer service and lady said no one had any overall control on toys since she been there, over two years. Phone hq to report it. Vvvv pleased yesterday...labels and toys match and all nicely lined up and no random xmas stocks or tins of food mixtured up with the toys. Felt pleased they listened to me!!! 😍 (Im sad i know but the label of telly tubby Didnt match the random selection of toys and tins of food there before. Lovely young guy tried to locate the item i wanted but like me gave up)

Redglitter · 27/04/2017 20:55

I'd have complained at the time.

I bet it was nothing like 5 mins it just seemed a while
