Popped into Morrisons yesterday for a few bits with my mum. Both had less than 10 items so went on the less than 10 items bit - there was nobody else there. We only had the one trolley between us so were sorting out what was mine and what was hers, took maximum 30 seconds. In this time a member of staff with a coat on so was at end of his shift pushed in front of me and my mum and the cashier said "you dont mind do you he's desperate to get home". Actually, yes we did mind. just beause he works there doesn't give him priority above anyone else. He only had 2 things but took ages counting out his money, then they had a chat about when they'd next be on shift together so took a good 5 minutes.

We both said that we werent happy with what had happened to the cashier, I said that it was wrong. She said "oh sorry" with no feeling behind it. As we walked off I said "I'll be emailing head office"

Now wondering if we should do? Would you?

Pushing in is annoying, but so is faffing round with your shopping in the 10 items or fewer queue, so I think it's a draw between you.

CrazyExIngenue · 27/04/2017 19:41

So you can take your sweet time sorting out your "10 items each" but he can't go in front and chat for a minute? YABU

highinthesky · 27/04/2017 19:42

You should have spoken to the duty manager and got it out of your system there and then.

Perhaps you wouldn't be wasting precious brain space on it over a day later.

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday · 27/04/2017 19:46

It would have really annoyed me too but I would have dealt with it at the time.

I would have said,

"Excuse me, can you hurry up, we are just as desperate to get home as you" Smiley, passive aggressive face.

CatsRidingRollercoasters · 27/04/2017 19:47

You can't be serious?

I hope you are joking about emailing the head office. How pathetic is that. If you didn't like him jumping in before you, you should have told him there and then. I'm sure he wouldn't have argued back.

WitchSharkadder · 27/04/2017 19:51

I imagine it takes more than 30 seconds to unload 20 items from a trolley and do the whole 'oh, the carrots are yours, no I picked up the 6 pint milk, the 4 is yours' thing. I also think their '5 minute conversation' was more of a 'are you in on Saturday?' 'Yep, see you then, have a nice evening' 'bye' 29 seconds.

Yy to people putting a trolley through the 10 items aisle being a PITA.

Life is full of small annoyances and inconveniences. If we all got het up and started emailing HOs over every minor thing, we'd all have serious blood pressure issues and probably never get anything else done.

Let it go, OP.

wasonthelist · 27/04/2017 19:52

Sad face picture in local press OP, it's the only way to make these people understand.

UrsulaPandress · 27/04/2017 19:55

Isn't it 10 items or fewer?

RedDogsBeg · 27/04/2017 19:57

I'm with AgentProvocateur - you can't be serious OP?

Really? I mean really?

TheExuberant1 · 27/04/2017 20:03

It was unprofessional, but TBH I usually let people with two items go in front of me if I have lots of items. I wouldn't bother with the email.

PhyllisNights · 27/04/2017 20:04

That was completely and utterly unprofessional of the staff member. I know it's not Waitrose or Marks & Spencer's with a name to uphold, but Christ! Morrisons should have a policy against that. The customer should be the first priority!

I would take them to task. E-mail them, go and see the manager in-store & spread it across social media. They'll hate nothing more than the poor word of mouth.

limitedperiodonly · 27/04/2017 20:04

I complained about this to head office once. I've no problem with queuing or letting someone go ahead of me if they have fewer items than me regardless of whether they are wearing a staff uniform or not. But that's my decision, not theirs. The person just went ahead of me and when I ojected her colleague said she had an imaginary place in the queue.

Just like you, it was a cosy situation between chums. I didn't have the time to waste on calling a manager and I'm not sure the manager would have dealt with it.

Head office apologised and sent me a £10 voucher. It was Waitrose, by the way.

WorraLiberty · 27/04/2017 20:07

Right now that's definitely confirmed it for me

You are indeed on a permanent wind-up Phyllis

Well played Grin Grin

PhyllisNights · 27/04/2017 20:09

I'm not on a wind up! If I put one step wrong at work, I get shot down in flames.

The customer pays for a service. The employee is paid by the organisation. It's not that hard to understand!

Crankycunt · 27/04/2017 20:10

That's so so rude, when I was a retail manager this is something i'd like to know about.

Email the store manager. Not to get this person in trouble, but it is a training opportunity. Not that you should have to train your staff not to push in, in front of customers.

isadoradancing123 · 27/04/2017 20:12

Get a bloody life and chill

PuppyMonkey · 27/04/2017 20:15

i thought your AIBU was going to be about getting told off for going to the ten items till when you had 20 items in a trolley.

Did you huff and puff loudly while staff member paid? Grin

twobarnsmammisonthebus · 27/04/2017 20:16

YABVU. You weren't actually ready to start paying or have your goods scanned. Someone did something mildly cheeky but basically reasonable in the circumstances, and instead of brushing it off and treating it as the complete non-issue it is, you become disproportionately angry and forget to deal with other humans like a human. This is really REALLY not worth this level of fury.

SandyDenny · 27/04/2017 20:16

I've just about stopped shopping in Morrisons as the till staff are sooooooo sloooooow.

I haven't got so far as to complain about it, I've voted with my feet, they need to up their game for the busy shopper, in my local one it's full of OAPs who have no need or desire to go at even a half way normal speed it seems

BuzzKillington · 27/04/2017 20:17

I would've eye rolled and got on with my day.

Can't be bothered to be PO about something so trivial.

harderandharder2breathe · 27/04/2017 20:19

I really couldn't be arsed complaining to head office. What exactly do you expect compensation obviously ???

You and your mum were faffing. He jumped the queue with 2 items, really don't believe it was actually 5 minutes chatting. Move on with your life.
